Introduction to
Commander John Crichton is a scientist about to undertake a mission to skim the earths atmosphere in the hope of reaching speeds that would help future space missions reach other planets and maybe even stars.
Welp! That was the dream. The reality is that he went through a big blue swirly thing (like a sub-space anomaly but ... erm.. Swirlier) and ended up in a pitched battle between an aggressive bunch of murderers called Peasekeepers and some escaping prisoners.
Crichton is captured by the prisoners and eventually helps them escape.
That is that start of what turns out to be a terrific adventure set in another part of the galaxy with a bunch of 'people' that can best be described as rejects from a waxwork factory (except one, an attractive ex-peacekeeper lady who would sooner punch yer lights out than say sorry).
All in all, Crichton did NOT get what he bargained for...
After accidentally killing a Peacekeeper in a collision, Crichton and his new crewmates find themselves being chased by the dead pilots evil brother. They now attempt to evade capture by losing themselves in the Uncharted Territories.
As the season develops we see lots of different cultures. Most of them are entertaining, fun, horrific, ugly, beautiful or just plain bonkers.
But mostly they are all of the above. |

Introduction to
The Farscape characters are now well defined and the writers concentrate on more innovative scripts and a more detailed exploration of the interaction between crewmembers.
The special effects were pretty cool too.
However, we have yet to see a farscape 'story arc'. Each episode is self-contained, but ultimately confined to the hull of Moya - there is so much more.
Things heat up in episode 2-10, A look at the Princess. This was a three part story which also dealt with the emotional entanglement that is Aeryn Sun and John Crichton. |
