I agree, it was too slow. I liked some of the ideas, but the aliens were easier to connect with than the main human characters.

Saw a new film last night on DVD. Monsters.

Here is the blurb :

"six years ago Nasa discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon reentry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures.

A jaded US journalist begrdgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist and escort her through the infected zone to the safetey of the US border."

To me this film was so slow and dull. The aliens are not believable and there is too little of them. It was more an excuse to get the two characters together, like a road trip film but I didn’t like either of the characters anyway. I am disappointed because this could have been a so much better film

Yes no doubt you are right…..my friend (who is a mine of trivial scifi information) told me that in the original idea that was supposed to be chewbacca’s home planet but the studio people didn’t like that idea so the teddy bears were substituted instead..

Helloooooo. Marketing. You don’t get to be a ga-zillionaire without a bit of marketing.

And since the Star Wars franchise was really the start of the toy-book-games-printed bed sheets marketing as we know it today…..

Sometimes it may take a cute fuzzy alien to make enough money to get the next picture made. 😀

I caught a bit of Return of The Jedi on somebody’s TV the other day. I am not very familiar with the films but the bit I saw was really dire Harrison Ford and some other people in the middle of a forest and they were suddenly surrounded by a lot of teddy bear aliens. I was like you must be joking . Is that really most people’s idea of good scifi ? Just wanted to put my opinion thanks.

I love Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles! Although it’s a bit like Terminator meets The O.C. Sarah’s too . . . normal and John’s not as spunky as he was in T2. Sarah needs to be a bit more crazy. Maybe they shoulda just got Linda Hamilton in on it in the first place.

I’m not really a fan of Ron Moore either. It would be really good though, for Cruise to be in something a little more meaty. Mission Impossible and some of his other sci fi films can’t (imo) be ever considered cult. Someone of his talent should try something less mainstream and more interesting.

http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/04/bsg-co-creator.html
>>> Battlestar Galactica co-creator Ronald D. Moore will write a trilogy for Tom Cruise’s movie studio, United Artists.
>>>
>>> Could Cruise be looking for a sci-fi franchise to call his own? Moore (pictured) co-wrote Mission Impossible: II and,
>>> according to U.A. boss Paula Wagner, hit it off famously with the toothy action star.

Could this be a new scientology opus in the making? I’m only familiar with the condensed South Park version of their mythology so maybe a full trilogy will do them justice. 😉

(Related: Battlefield Earth currently reside on the bottom 100 on IMDB.)
