… what does a moderater do?

Moderators are like minor deities (it would sound REALLY cool if only I could spell it )
They have the power over life and death in their forum ie. they can edit posts, delete offensive posts and get as power-mad as they like.
There aren’t many moderators like that however. Most are regular contributors and the just manage the forum, if a topic gets too big (too many pages) then they may lock it and start another thread, if someone is abusive they can delete their posts and even ban perople from the board!
But most of the time they are someone who really likes a particular show and becomes quite knowledgeable about it. If they see a new item on the show, they may post a message in the forum and encourage people to respond etc. Some have been known to visit other forums and continue the conversation on SadBOARD with the community here.
Moderators also get access to the news server. If you have some news about any particular topic related to Sci Fi, you can enter it into the secret super-duper SadNEWS software and in minutes, it will not only be on the SadGeezers Website pages, but also on many of the websites that use the SadNEWS service. The Red Dwarf, LEXX and Sci fi news feeds are really popular.
Those are just some of the things you can play around with. A moderator is basically someone who hangs around here often and encourages discussion. You are one of those peeps Ivy, but as a moderator, you would have access to a LOT more resources and information.
The down-side is that you have to visit your forum fairly regularly (not every day, but certainly most days) and keep an eye on it. I have a special moderators page that has lots of instructions and advice and also a Moderators forum where Mods get together and chat about issues or advice.
