I suppose what it comes down to is the amount of CG in the episode… for example ‘End of the Universe’ involved a [b]lot[/b] of CGI and some of it wasn’t all that hot. Some of the compositing comes off badly too, such as Kai dropping from the Lexx in ‘Fire and Water’, and the men falling from the Gondola in ‘May’.
