Londo Mollari becomes emperor after employing the Shadows (without knowing until it was too late to back out) to bring the Centauri Republic to its former greatness. He regrets his decision, and removes all Shadow influence from Centauri Prime so the Vorlons would not destroy it. When he saw that they were still going to blow up Centauri prime because [i]he[/i] was touched by the Shadows, he asked his cousin Vir Kotto to kill him. For this act of selflessness, the Vorlons allowed him and his people to live.
But there was no happy ending. As emperor, the Drakh, a satellite race of the Shadows possessing their technology, installed a parasite called a Keeper in him to control him. 20-some years later, he was able to temporarily subdue his Keeper, and had his “old friend’ G’Kar kill him, to eliminate its evil influence on Centauri. G’Kar obliged, but as he was strangling the life out of Londo, the Keeper came back to life, and strangled G’Kar. All three died simeltaneously. After Londo died, Vir became emperor, and brought a new golden age of peace and prosperity to the Centauri Republic.
