Non sci-fi suggestions would be The Wire and Dexter, if thats not too obvious. Otherwise Dead Set was quite good, Flight of the Conchords is funny or the classic Twin Peaks is always a winner.
If you need some good tunes check out Band of Horses, Midlake and Bon Iver, mellow shit.
