I watched this particular episode of Enterprise tonight, and was left feeling distinctly uneasy by it. Not by the fact we had the first sniff of the Prime Directive, not the fact it was not a kick-ass episode (and in moral eps, i normally feel an overwhelming urge to vomit)- i actually thought about what i would do in that situation, and what we as a race may do if faced by a situation in which we may or may not end up playing God. I suppose that was the intention of the writers, to get us to think about such things. If you’ve seen it chaps, what did you think?

I liked it, but then I’m one of the few that has found Enterprise entertaining.
In some ways it was insightful, just how Archer would fare in this situation, you could clearly see he did not want to leave these people to die, and had to be guided by the doctor and T’pol in his decision, obviously he yearned for something to relate to, he needed the Prime Directive to ease his concious.
Even Picard had a similar decision to make, but he could choose to either break the directive or abide by it, there wasn’t much middle ground.
Poor old Archer didn’t have that luxury, his heart told him one thing and his head was replaced by the doctors thinking, but he has to live with his decision alone, I think he mentioned that humanity would need some sort of directive.
I do like the programme, because they are trying to move away from the luxury starships and clean living that the 24th century had.
I read recently that Enterprise’s warp core was a very dangerous engine, they didn’t have dilithium chambers or Anti-matter flow ratio systems to stop the engine suffering a breach, it was a ticking time bomb in most respects.
Although, I don’t think they have really scratched the surface of what the early days of starship travel was like, it doesn’t seem dramatic or hard-hitting enough…but I still enjoy it.
