Just finished watching the whole first series. As a newbie – I love the characters, storylines, CGI, sets, Zev (!), the dark humour….. But good grief! That duet with Kai & Zev in Supanova was so awful it was embarrassing! Should I try to convince myself that it was tongue in cheek?
25th March 2001 at 11:54 pm #54909DalekTek790ParticipantSuper Nova is, without a doubt, the worst Lexx movie. Watching it made me physically ill.

ummm, i hate to admit this, and rustie will give me a tonguelashing no doubt, but i always squirm during these sorts of musical fantasy scenes, but it seems to be a device that americans either like or despise enough to engender large scale response, so it’s used far too frequently in north american tv/film…i would like to hop e the canadians and germans are in fact making fun of that dreadful american devvice
26th March 2001 at 12:55 am #54911AnonymousGuestI loved the Kai/Zev duet!! It was really touching and gave us more insight into Zev’s character. If you didn’t like that, you’ll probably hate Brigadoom.

26th March 2001 at 5:04 am #54913AnonymousGuestOh yes! Episode 2.18 “Brigadoom” is a…wait for it…….MUSICAL!…!!!!
It tells the story of Kai’s past (before he was killed by His Shadow) in song!!! I loved it and it was probably the most innovative episode of season 2.——————

26th March 2001 at 11:10 pm #54915DalekTek790ParticipantBrigadoom is good! I was expecting it to be silly, but it was actually very well-executed. I love musicals (ones that make sense, that is ).

27th March 2001 at 7:05 am #54917AnonymousGuestThe “Fantasy Dance” was one of my favorite scenes. It may appear “silly” or Kai and Zev’s voices “amaturish” but I think you have to forget that and take the scene for what it was – Zev’s fantasy before her “burst of life”. The man she loved, alive, colorful, and completing wanting her.
After all, she was to die after this so it was her one dream come true. And I was very moved and touched by it…. The singing and dancing were secondary to the dream coming true…..for our Zev27th March 2001 at 7:11 am #54918AnonymousGuest

a true romantic at heart! actually there are a lot of lexx fans that are romantics and love brigadoom…i guess i liked brigadoom despite the fact it was a musical because it was so well done and told a story (i am usually lost as to just what the story is when i try to watch a musical ) anyway that’s what makes the show so fun, there is something for everyone
28th March 2001 at 2:23 am #54919AnonymousGuestI felt “Brigadoom” was a very moving episode. Especially the songs sung by Xenia Seeberg and Michael McManus.

No, I don’t want him to become living again, but I sure enjoy the eps where he is. I wondered if anyone else noticed Kai’s jewel on his costume was ruby colored. It’s the only time so far that it wasn’t that orangish goldish color.
29th March 2001 at 6:58 am #54921AnonymousGuestI have to admit, there I was, chewing my fingers off, stuffing the second tape of Lexx that I’d ever bought into the VCR. I was gratified to be viewing what I thought would be the movie that explained all of KAi to me… I figured it’d be a dark and dreary tale! First, Gigerotta’s fantasy?!
I sat up on my couch and blushed. Thank god hubbie’s not home, I thought!
Figures, tho’ – hubbie walks in two seconds later and sits down at his computer desk.
“What’s that, another Lexx tape?” He almost sounded interested.
On comes the fantasy dance. Hubbie gets up and says “WHAT is THAT?!” He looks disgusted. “Auugggghhh!!!” he cries as he runs from the TV set.
I didn’t even care. I stared, glued to the screen. For 5 seconds I was embarrassed. Then I realized, this was gratitude! The Beans were giving me something! Something I could giggle over, dream about, smile at. I did smile, although still burning in embarrassment. Whatever. If I enjoyed it, it’s because I’m a musician, and a musical interlude in the middle of a scifi show really flips my switches. I live in a musical… always dreaming that one day an unseen orchestra will strike up the right tune, and I’ll go singing and dancing happily into the sunset.——————

most original episode of season 2! I loved it and the duet in Supernova was great too.——————

ARGH! Stop that! The only people who should EVER talk in third person are wrestlers. Unless you’re the Rock, knock it off. It’s obnoxious… Sheesh. As to you, Raven, no I don’t think she did forget that it was about Supernova. Rust is talking about the Fantasy Dance scene from it, and Gigerotta’s fantasy about the Milk Fed Boys. Not Brigadoom.
FX! Quick, I need CHOCOLATE AND TWINKIES! Oh, and bring some ciggys while yer at it… I’m about to start seizing…
11th May 2001 at 9:42 am #54929AnonymousGuestSupernova! Loved it! Loved the fantasy dance; so hokey I thought I was watching “Lexxlahoma!” I loved the Poetman, loved the Catwalk on the catwalk by Kai, loved Stan trying to be brave even with one hand, loved the brains getting bested by Blue Star, loved Giggerota getting laughed at by the Moth, loved Xev taking Stan’s hand and Kai putting his arm around Xev, loved it, loved it, loved it!

Also, FX americans are to blame for a great deal of crappy culture, but I am not sure we invented the musical!

are you sure about that being the only nudity?i have only seen us scifi, but it seems the shower scene in season three contained a fair bit of upper female torso nudity? and does k-town count as nudity or strategically placed body paint and dairy queen ice cream boats? oh and i do not like the duet, but i did much to my surprise like brigadoom

hmmm, you may be right lizard, i guess i just assumed musicals are american because i think of all the big glitzy hollywood productions, and the majority of broadway stuff…is it poor man’s opera do you think? or a marriage of vaudeville and popular songs? i guess all the musicians out there could help with this one…anyway, i know that there is a lot of crappy american culture, but there is a lot of good stuff-blues, jazz, and all the stuff in between, as well as more recent stuff, although i guess i still love british invasion (cream, traffic, rolling stones early, et al)…and let us not forget movies and books! Finals are finished! Yay! Now I’m just having regular bouts of chocolate mania (you should have seen me at the wedding. Someone tried to swipe my choco-bar and I almost clocked him. Never try to take chocolate from a drunk elf).
As to your comment on the duet, I liked it even tho it was cheezy. It made me laugh and MM has a nice voice. I liked Brigadoom’s singing and dancing ten times better, tho. I think I need to go watch Gigashadow again. While Supernova is a favorite, Squish is my true love… hehehe

I’m working this summer, as usual. No uncon for me. I couldn’t afford it this year. Maybe if there’s one next year… kind of bummed about it, really, but I may be in New Brunswick for a wedding while all of you are in Hali. But, I’m sure I can trust you to do a little drooling for me, right FX?
And yes, you have to love a man that’s so kind of a creature that only wants to gnaw on brains…

Welp, speaking as a Canadian, I really didn’t have a problem with the fantasy duet. I regard it as product of Zev’s delusional state at that point. Giggerota’s absurd fantasy of the milk-fed boys, on the other hand, is definitely played for laughs.
Think of all the Indian Bollywood movies, they burst into song at the drop of a hat, or consider the Gilbert & Sullivan musicals. Somebody must enjoy it, but I run from the room screaming. “Brigadoom” kept me in my chair (make of that what you will).
