Well, bugger me! Metaphorically of course. I’m on my back for a couple of weeks and it’s all changed!
Change is bad we fear change. But we still have the same pastel shades, so I’m feeling more relaxed.
It seems it’s my turn for the ‘Geezer’ plague. And you will all be pleased to hear that after several days in the hospital, and a small truckload of needles in places needles really don’t belong, I am officially a freak. They haven’t got a clue what is wrong with me.
So if you see on the news that an Akira style fleshy blob is covering the south east of England, don’t panic. It’s only me. 😯
4th February 2003 at 8:02 pm #64863FXParticipant🙁 well whatever went wrong here’s to having it go right again…who the hell cares if it’s got a name, just feel better…love, fx
5th February 2003 at 12:46 am #64865AnonymousGuestWell, Rag, you’re body may be ailing but your sense of humor is in perfect health! 😆 Good for you, it will be important in getting you well. Hope you feel like your normal self soon…
5th February 2003 at 3:15 am #64867AnonymousGuestdude i can totally understand! i have been going through back pain that has keep me me from sitting at the computer for long periods of time!! i have really missed posting new topics and responding to new topics but tomorrow/today i will (hopefully) find out what is actually wrong! i really hope that the Docs can help you and make you feel better!!
5th February 2003 at 10:58 am #64875AnonymousGuestHope you guys figure out what’s up and get better soon.
Unfortunately doctors can sometimes play things too close to their chest. I once did a training course (IT) for a load of doctors and cracked a joke on the subject. “While all you guys are here, perhaps you could help me with a small pain I have here (pointing to neck).”
“Sure,” they said, “take off your clothes and we’ll have a look.”
7th February 2003 at 12:07 am #64887AnonymousGuestgawd..don’t get me started.. was in a rear end smash abut 3 years ago, and have suffered neck problems ever since… heard an article a few days ago about some research being done into these sort of things, about how even an impact of 5mph can leave people with injuries that take 6 months to heal. (my car was hit about 40mph, and was cannoned about 40-odd feet down the road.) however, at the time this sort of thing was not accepted, so doctors either treated me like i was wasting their time, or because i was going through the insurance, accused me of making my pain up to inflate my claim. didn’t bother to check out X-rays, which showed damage in some areas, or bother to order X-rays in those that hadn’t been checked and where i said i had problems. you really wouldn’t believe how insulted and distressed by this i was. doctors…don’t like ’em. bunch of people who play with themselves… and what they put my mate through….
ok, ok, said don’t get me started, rant over. BTW hope you guys have more luck. get better soon 🙂28th February 2003 at 6:38 pm #65144RagParticipant🙁
Well, yesterday I went to see the Doc again, and after many threats of physical violence I actually got a straight (ish) answer. My illness is still undiagnosed, but their current theory is MS.
Me? Scared? Hell yeah!!!!!!!
Being single and over 4 hours drive from my nearest family member means dealing with this business all on my jack.
So this is a blatant and unashamed plea for loads of heartwarming comments (sincere or not. Right now I don’t give a Darn).
Still, only another month and a half before I get to talk to the 8th doc they will have wheeled me in to see. A specialist this time – ooooh!!!! So only another month and half of living in my own personal hell, before I get another pompous fellow telling me ‘um, dunno chief’.
Rag i just realized the 2 cusswords where here and figured this might be a good time to make sure that i can edit posts in this new BB! 😀 don’t forget we do have younger sadgeezers here. 😀 but believe me, i do feel for you and what you are going through!
😳 Soz
28th February 2003 at 7:18 pm #65146AnonymousInactiveOh gawd, Rag, I am really sorry to hear that. I’m not a religious man, but I can still say that you’ll be in my prayers.
The waiting is so hard, but don’t give up hope. Even if it is MS, it may be the more common form called “relapsing-remitting form [where] the person experiences attacks in which the symptoms are severe for a short time and then improve, often with an almost complete recovery.” And treatments are improving for all types of MS.
Anyway, all the very best, and try to keep your chin up — hard though it must be at the moment. Just have to wait, and try to take care of yourself as best you can in the meantime.
Please keep us informed…
28th February 2003 at 8:57 pm #65147AnonymousGuestHey Rag,
I love it when your doctor tells you he/she’s not sure what’s wrong 🙄
Whatever you do, don’t get discouraged now! If it is MS at least you have a diagnosis and you can start your treatments–and they do help, and better ones are coming. It’s sometimes scarier not knowing than knowing.
You have to let us know what’s going on–don’t do all your worrying by yourself…and I sure hope things start getting better!

28th February 2003 at 9:31 pm #65150AnonymousGuestYes, hope you don’t worry too much!! MS is bad buit it’s VERY rare. It could be one of MANY MANY other things. Quacks don’t know everything!

oh sweetie, all of our thoughts are with you, but don’t go buying your trouble before you need to…you have every right to be scared, but you may be scaring yourself for no reason so try not to go too nuts yet…and we’ll be here to chat when you do figure out what’s going on, and what to do… here’s hoping it’s all a just a bad scare, love fx
1st March 2003 at 3:17 am #65155AnonymousGuestRag, I too, have heard many times about mis-diagnoses of MS, sometimes it turns out to be something like Meniere’s disease or neuropathy or something else…..So try not to dwell on that until something definite is found…..I too, have been scared to death by doctor’s, one telling me a spot on my thigh was skin cancer….!! I was writing my will all week until I went to a specialist and he said it was a harmless pigment…..All that week I worried and worried and all for nothing….Anyway, we will keep you in our thoughts and yes, I believe, too, prayers….Just remember when you think nothing else can go wrong, that is when something spectacularly 😀 wonderful happens!!!!!! 😀
1st March 2003 at 5:44 am #65159AnonymousGuesthoney i am so sorry to hear this! i am hoping this is one of the many many many mistakes that doctors make all the time! do try to remember that doctors only ‘practice’ medicine! they are imperfect individuals like us. before seeing my chiropratic doc i haven’t seen a doc in over 20 years. just stubborn i guess! hehehe! 😀 i also think that docs tend to err on the side of caution. meaning that they would rather tell you it is something serious before they actually figure it out. i am thinking about you and hope you can find out soon. the waiting to know is the hardest part! i totally understand that! i thought the worst and it is only pinched nerves and displaced discs. i really hope for the best for you!! please keep up your spirits in this trying time and remember that we all are thinking of you!!! 😀 😀 😀
3rd March 2003 at 10:30 pm #65194AnonymousGuestjust like to add my best wishes for you to the list! try not to let things get you down, keep your chin up, your spirits high….and above all, look after yourself!!!!
4th March 2003 at 11:28 pm #65211RagParticipantOooh, the cockles of me heart are reet properly warmed.
Thank you all very much. I really do appreciate it.
There has been no real change since my last emotional outburst, other than I have my slightly more sane head back on. When there are developments I shall let you all know. Til then I s’pose I’ll just have to back to lying on the sofa watching my new Angel DVD’s (couldn’t afford them, but I’m sick, right? Gotta treat yourself when your down? It’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it)
4th April 2003 at 4:27 pm #65485RagParticipantHi all. Just a quick update for those that give a damn (and those that don’t. Just so you don’t feel left out). I’m back on my feet again, and I’m back at work. Even if it is on a part time basis. I’m still not right (some say I never have been), and still no idea what plague has befallen me, but I am feeling a million times better.
So I should be around the boards more again. And for this alone, I humbly apologise.
😆
4th April 2003 at 5:26 pm #65487AnonymousInactiveThat’s very good news, Rag! 🙂
BTW, I’m also only working part-time due to poor health (at least that’s what I tell my wife. 😉 But really I have only myself to blame for my health; that’s what happens when you drink like a fish and smoke like a salmon. I’m still as pickled as a herring from my last drinking binge *gulps more beer*, but what can you expect from someone who hangs out in The Pub? 😉
But seriously, it’s great to hear you’re feeling so much better, and if your good health means that you’ll be hanging around here more, well, I won’t be complaining … much. 😉 😛
Take care and all the best,
-Logan4th April 2003 at 5:32 pm #65488AnonymousGuestCOOL!
Welcome back 🙂
5th April 2003 at 3:44 am #65507AnonymousGuest😀 That is good news! Keep getting better–and hang out.

WOOO HOOOO!!!!!! I’M NOT GONNA DIE!!!!! Well not for a couple of days at least.
Went to see the Neurologist yesterday and it’s NOT MS!!!!!! It is a Tranverse Myelitis, but hey… we knew that anyway… right? It is something that is related to MS, but the brain scan was clear so it isn’t the full blown thing (yet, it may develop into MS one day, but then again may not. And I can worry about that when it happens). The Doc actually said that my brain was normal. Poor, unwitting fool.
Suffice it to say, I am a smiley bunny once more, inside and out.
The symptoms could take up to 12 months to clear up, but that’s no biggie. I’ve managed 2 months, so what’s another 12. The best news is that there doesn’t seem to be any permanent nerve damage.
And this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone going to see a doc and being told to drink more booze (he really did!!!). Truth be told I’m not 100% sure he really was a doc, but with advice like that I’ll happily go and see him again.
The last two months have been extremely tough, what with the illness, the wranglings with 2 different solicitors (neither pleasent), the recent discovery that my kitchen floor is trying to deposit my washing machine into the flat below, no discernable income and the sounds of red bills hitting the doorstep like the pitter patter of tiny feet, oh… and the purchase of the freehold on my flat turning out to be £500 quid more than I’d been told originally, and they want the money now. Yes, this really has all hit me in the same two months. Oh, nearly forgot having a stack of boxes full of photo copy paper falling on my back at work last week (fortunately I heard em coming and managed to move just enough so that it missed the bad part of my spine). So, as I said extremely tough.
I didn’t put in that last paragraph for sympathy, but to attempt to express how truely grateful I am for all the support and encouragement you guys have shown me recently. Not only have you helped me through troubled times, but you have also helped reaffirm my faith in humanity. It is really reassuring that there are people out there who are more than willing to show kindness and compassion to a complete stranger. You are all truely wonderful people. With my family all being so far away, it’s only been my friends round here (all of whom have been absolute diamonds), and your kind selves that have kept me going. I hope you are all now feeling that nice rosey glow that follows doing something you know to be good. You should be, coz you did. I feel honoured to call you friends (can I? Oh, go on)
If any of you are ever in the South-East corner of England, give me a shout. Coz I owe you several pints.
BTW. If that was all too mushy for you… Tough. I believe heartfelt sentiment should be openly expressed. Thank you all.
16th April 2003 at 12:38 am #65647FXParticipantway to go rag, i am thrilled for your happy news! and you have just proved once again, when it rains, it pours…chin up dude, or at least in a nice mug of stout (don’t really like ale much myself)…enjoy, and remember, you need a liver too! 😀
16th April 2003 at 3:15 am #65648AnonymousGuest😀 I love hearing good news!! And you sure picked the right day to tell us: it’s tax day here in the U.S. so there’s been nothing else good happening today! 😥
Aw, let’s get right down to it and get mushy–a big fat virtual smooch to you. Ummm…can you give me your doctor’s name just in case I’m in the area and need to consult him?
Drink plenty and for God’s sake stay away from those office supplies.

LOL — Now we know the doctor’s a quack! I’d flip him the bird if I were you! 😉 *Logan ducks rocks again for excessive fowl plays on words*
Thanks, Rag! Great news! 😀 😀 😀 And we do care!
After all, we are a community of sorts and of course the people here are not complete strangers, well some are, but most of the people here are just plain strange. 😛 And I like that! 😉
Suffice it to say, I am a smiley bunny once more, inside and out.
Hmm, don’t you mean a happy goose, er, as opposed to the sad geesers? 😉
And this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone going to see a doc and being told to drink more booze (he really did!!!)
Well, you’re in the right place for that! 😀
If any of you are ever in the South-East corner of England, give me a shout. Coz I owe you several pints.
I’ll take you up on that offer, but I really think that we should be treating you. So, since we’re in a virtual pub, here’s a virtual beer: EER — well eer is almost (i.e. virtually) a beer. 😉
But seriously, great news. Cheers!
Logan
P.S. I feel proud to call you a virtual acquaintance — just kidding of course, we ARE friends. 😀
P.P.S. I was prescribed stout/beer at one time by my doctor, and let me tell you, it cured what was aleing me!
