Is anyone watching this newish UPN show. Kinda six million dollar man revisited? I am giving it a try. So far I am enjoying it, but have some misgivings. I like the cast, but they made the lead, who is a very good looking mid 20s man, into some “tv” concept of a “computer geek”. This is already wearing thin– I can’t think where they are going to go with this if they keep their main character so naive and inept.

I haven’t seen it, nor really read about it, but the unoriginal concept (a man becomes part computer) is rife with possibility…

He becomes infected with viruses, spyware, and gets a bad case of “worms” that they must “blast’ out. His friends shun him because of his annoying pop ups and banner ads (and his worms)… He meets a very cute Luddite, but she won’t play with him. He friends want him to date, but due to a malfunction, no one can “turn him on.” Only computer geeks can relate to him, he shuns his analog friends… Bill Gates takes control of him in yet another evil attempt to control the world. He becomes the geocities mascot, but becomes disillusioned with them and speaks out only to be censored by them…

As satire/parody the show could work very well.

Hmm, I guess Jake’s eyes really would be the Windows to his soul.

What’s his OS BTW? Jake 2.0?

Logan, please get a job writing for this show at once! In fact, on wednesday’s episode he did have to be re-booted. It wasn’t really explained why– a virus was mentioned in passing– but I am not sure that was the explaination. He had some computer-virus induced paranoid hallucinations (lots of potential here, but they were not really “trippy”).

Also the woman scientist in charge of being his doctor is of the “put- glasses-on-a-cute-chick and pretend she is ugly until she has to take them off and have a make over because she is going to a wedding and SURPRISE she is a cute chick”.

But really, the show isn’t all that bad.

I call the show “Le Femme Neo” because it seems like it’s taken bits of La Femme Nikita and The Matrix and repackaged it. And didn’t someone do something like this in the ’90s? It was some Daryl Hannah look-alike with a Sun computer with VR goggles. I remember reading a comic called “Espers” that featured a character who could mentally interface with the Net. So the idea isn’t new. Even Space: 1999 did it one time. I’ll give it a half season. A full season at best.
