ParticipantThis is a time when all of the folks, who enjoy Lexx,…should be standing together for a common interest and not a time to be dividing up into little groups. We should be making an effort to ban together and not “ban” each other out of online existence!!
Where I live “people with less than 8th grade educations,”..have made that..i..e..banning folks, with whom they don’t agree,….a way of life. I should hate to see folks, who should know better..follow suit!!
In an effort to facilItate my understanding of what is considered proper behavior here,..I would ask the question,..”What does it take to be banned here?”
In an effort to keep clear in my mind certain factors,..I would again ask,..”What would it take to be banned here?
A personal preference by a moderator?
An overt effort to flame the other posters?
An effort to incite unwanted division in a group, which needs total unity badly right now?
I have no intention of doing that here. Does anyone else by keeping alive old “dead” differences?”
I ask again, “What does a person have to do to be banned at this board? Ask the wrong question? Have a different opinion?
Errrrrm! Remember,..the type of TV show that we all love as fans!!??!! Lexx? The show that doesn’t exactly stick up for the status quo?”
As an avid Lexxian,..I wish to be able to stay in contact with other and ALL of the other folks, who enjoy watching Lexx and discussing it. I come here with an interest in Lexx and that interest alone. I come, having dropped earlier angers and resentments,..to enjoy discussion,..silliness, fooling around in a good way, and storytelling and fun.
Just asking,
……….Stanelle

GuestWell the horse has been beaten to a pulp in the 5 other threads but I think it’s very simple:
Treat other people with a little respect. Not a whole lot to ask, don’t you think?
There’s 80 billion other boards/instant messaging/etc… where you can keep in contact with your friends while acting like a 10-year old. You can share your pornography and violent imagry there, call each other foul names, and curse up a storm, but keep it off these boards. Again is that so much to ask?
So if you want to talk and be a decent human being to others you don’t have anything to fear around here. Nothing at all.
Like it’s been said quite a few times, we only have one rule:
Be excellent to each other.

Participantplays no part in who gets banned?
Normally,..I am a very quiet charactor. I hang with disabled folks, write little articles and stories,..inspire other folks to write little articles of all sorts and stories and take no pleasure in causing a ruckus with anyone,…but I just wanted to ask that question.
Thank you,
Stanelle

ParticipantOf course some personal preferences apply: human nature.
It’s almost always personal. If you present yourself as a sterling member of the bored for 10,000 posts and then freak f#king out for three in a row: people will forgive you without much ado.
Troll all over the bored and people will get tired of you and react to your behavior with much less restraint. JJ was right about unequal treatment over at Lexx.com. I saw several instances where he was chastised for an offense that another person sailed right by with. The point is your reputation can preceed you.
I am not familiar with the history of all the bannings (but the mods are). So I live by their judgements and hope some concessions can be obtained.
I am not being negative in the slightest about Gela et.al or the mods here – I think they do a fine job and put up with much more sh*t than I know I would. (You want to see militant mod-ding, give me the power! 😈 )
A guy once explained it to me like this (and really pissed me off when he did) bad behavior is like a check….you write one with each occurence. Eventually your account is going to get depleted and they’re gonna bounce your ass!

ParticipantWell put.
I don’t consider myself to much of a jerk, but I like to be told when I am, that way I can correct the problem. From what I gather, I can act pretty much as I did over at lexx.com and have a happy exisitence.

ParticipantI don’t get all this moaning.
You know, if I don’t like how a message board is moderated, I leave.
I don’t have a problem here, I love it. Thats not to say I havent had posts deleted. You’ve just got to decide wether it’s best to adjust or to leave.
It’s like going to a friends house. They might not like you puting your feet on coffee table. If its that big a deal to you, don’t go to their home.
I think it’s all rather simple.
It’s not hard to be splendiferous to each other.

ParticipantI hoped not to come back but it seems yet again I have to defend myself and my friends. So..
I’m not sure what argument you’re discussing, Lexxlurker. I’m not even
sure if you’re familiar with any of the history of the people involved.
Suffice it to say, there’s not been any question of pornography,
swearing or anything else in this argument. If you’re making
accusations, then it appears you’re not doing anything to keep this
discussion from getting resolved, in fact it looks as if you’re
deliberately making inflammatory remarks that is just aggravating the
situation. Maybe you should think before you speak. Mod or no mod.If the people that post here get treated with respect, maybe they’d do
the same. But if people get insulted, harrassed or other activities by
mods or whomever, why should they treat you with respect you didn’t
earn?. Just being a mod doesn’t’ give you the right to be obnoxious.7th June 2004 at 8:29 pm #71601cloaked
Participantwhhaaa ❓
I’m all for maya, but maybe you didn’t get all the information when you made that post.“Suffice it to say, there’s not been any question of pornography,
swearing or anything else in this argument.”
This isn’t just about maya, JJ was posting porn a couple of days ago. 😉
hence the title – “I am curious. What does it take to get banned here?”“If you’re making accusations, then it appears you’re not doing anything to keep this discussion from getting resolved, in fact it looks as if you’re deliberately making inflammatory remarks that is just aggravating the situation. This is based off of what information?
If you read FunkET’s post here-
http://bboard.scifi.com/bboard/browse.cgi/1/5/1560/321625/3
you’ll find the recent events concerning maya had little to nothing to do with the mods here.8th June 2004 at 2:08 am #71635Anonymous
Guest
If the people that post here get treated with respect, maybe they’d do the same.
As far as I’m aware they do. I think most people would agree. The problem with general statements like that is that they are inflamatory and can be interpreted in many negative ways. You should give and example (unbiased!).
But if people get insulted, harrassed or other activities by mods or whomever, why should they treat you with respect you didn’t earn?
Again, I haven’t seen insulting comments by mods on this board (or any other for that matter)! Do you have any examples or are you just talking in generalities again? I’m not saying that there aren’t, I just can’t remember seeing any. If anyone was to have a wingding with a mod or admin, it’d be very short lived 😉
. Just being a mod doesn’t’ give you the right to be obnoxious.
Hmmm… Actually it does. You don’t become a moderator on this board because you have a pretty face, you are invited because you are either very good at moderating other boards or you have undertaken a project, activity or simply because you have posted numerous well setout, elloquent and unbiased messages. A moderator can give your ass a good kicking (I remember when thefrey told me off in SadCHAT when I got a little too excited and made some silly comment (I promptly behaved myself – cos she was right and because she’d earned my respect for the difficult job she does!).
Moderators usually take on the responsibility of being a mod because they like doing what they do, or enjoy the respect that the job deserves. Of course there is a HUGE downside. If a Mod makes some comment that the board takes exception to, their actions are considered contemptable. It’s verey easy for it to be interpreted as an abuse of power or just downright nasty. As a result you’ll prolly find that mods are far more tollerant than you give them credit for since they could honestly do without the hassle. Very few people are banned on this board for the same reason.
You on the other hand have made some comments which I personally would consider inflamatory. Not very inflamatory, but not very helpful either. If you were a moderator and some poster made comments lik ethe ones you made above, how would you feel? What would you do?

ParticipantThe title to my post WAS and IS:
“Just what does it take to get banned here?”
Without getting personal, or name calling, or accusatory, or referencing recent events, or bannings,..I just asked for a clear definition of what it took to get banned here,..and I got it.
Case closed!
Question answered!

JJ has a system. Start small and escalate and see just how far you can push the limits. Nipping JJ in the bud was (on my part) an attempt to keep him on the board. Other people didn’t get the same treatment because other people know there are limits and don’t purposefully overstep them.11th June 2004 at 2:09 pm #71900DennisMoore
