Enterprise

one thing i find notably sad about all of
berman’s star trek incarnations is the lack
of a type of optimism that the original trek
series was able to convey. i seem to remember
roddenberry saying something to the effect of
‘i was surprised by the number of nasa engineers
and m.i.t. specialist that said they were
enthused BY the show’
that was a hallmark of the original show,
along with the fact that it was generally
most peoples first real exposure to the scifi
genre. there had been a lot of other science
fiction shows on tv before, but they tended
to be a bit to illconcieved to generate an
interest in most people (you basically had to
already be a scifi fan to want to sit and
watch them), whereas star trek could actually
get non-scifi types to stay seated through
a whole show and be entertained.
i’m under the impression that ‘enterprise’
is actually supposed to be geared toward the
recapturing of those qualities, but from what
i’ve seen & read, it just looks like a re-
packaging of the same old berman/post gene r.
formula. it might as well be something spewed
out by disney’s assembly line style movie mill. [img]images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img]
