Babylon 5: Cultures: Drazi

The people of the Drazi Freehold are hermaphrodites, that is, they have both male and female genitalia (I knew you knew what an hermaphrodite was, I just wanted to explain it OK!) They are violent and bad-tempered and humans tend to look on all Drazi as males because of their aggressive nature (obviously never seen women fight!!)

Vizak
The Drazi Ambassador Visak

If you were to meet a Drazi in the pub you might possibly say, “Yo, leather ass, gemme a beer“.  The he/she/it would then take offence and come over and punch yer lights out!

Their eating habits are unpalatable, they prefer live food. A favorite is the six-tentacled skron. It is usually served underneath pasta covered in a thick white sauce.

The Drazi political elections are a scream (unless you are a Drazi that is), there is non of this namby pamby pinko liberal ballot box stuff. They fight to become ruler every five or six of their years.

Two political parties select their representatives randomly by choosing either a green or a purple sash. one of each colour has a pin on it denoting leadership. once the populace have been divided into two groups, they beat each others brains out and the victors are the winners. Of course the battles are not lethal, but they are bloody.

The Drazi are members of the InterStellar Alliance and are the worst bunch of squabblers in the council. Their ambassador is called Vizak, a particularly loathsome individual.

Recently the Drazi tried to hide the brutal enslavement of the peoples of Enpheely. The Drazi were trying to keep them obedient by sub-contracting pirates to keep them subjugated. When the Alliance found out and tried to assist, the Drazi tried to ambush the Alliance WhiteStars with a whopping armada but thanks to Byrons assistance in reading the thoughts of Vizak, Sheridan was able to warn the WhiteStar fleet and avoid a confrontation. The Drazi lost face over this affair and have struggled to gain a significant foothold in the Alliance since.

One of their later war-like expaditions was with the Narns.  They set off (without the agreement of the Alliance) to take Centauri Prime!
