Just a quick update on the DVD front. Things are progressing nicely on this end. Got the test discs in, and there seem to be no major problems. As for the earlier concerns brought up regarding the discs’ chapter functions and the time-track display, both work fine. There are true chapters on the disc, and, unlike the Season 1 discs, the elapsed/remaining time is available to be displayed.
There seem to be three problems with the first disc, although they are not striking enough to warrant a recall, or making a new DVD master. Firstly, the navigation on some of the menus is not as user-friendly as I’d like. It’s not *hard* to get around, it’s just not as logical as it probably ought to be (hard to explain, but you’ll understand when you see it…things like hitting the “right arrow” navigation button not working, and having to hit “down” until you get to the feature you want to get to on-screen). Secondly, one of the chapter breaks occurs about 30-45 seconds after the scene should begin. This poses no problems in playing the episode, nothing’s missing, but if you select this particular chapter (it’s in the “Terminal” episode), it will start a bit late in the scene. Nothing too major. Thirdly, on 3 of the scene selection screens, when you make your selection and press “enter,” the selected item doesn’t give that red “enter” flash that you may be expecting. Again, it’s nothing big.
Just wanted to give people a “heads up” beforehand, so no one would think that we’re just being sloppy and didn’t notice anything. They were caught, evaluated, and it was found that they happened so late in the mastering process that the costs of creating a new master would be prohibitive, both monetarily and time-wise.
…And is it just me, or has everyone been especially quiet over the past couple of days?
