First off, this ep was a ‘reality’ version of Shakespeares play, but also Series 3 was a ‘reality’ version of christian mythos and Milton.

I rewatched A Midsummers Nightmare last night. Im sitting here on the phone and I keep hearing “My King” and “King” without the words “Oberon” following it. It immediatly occurred to me, THIS IS KING! That perhaps Earth was his sphere while Fire was reserved for his Prince.Puck explains:
“Without a Queen, you can no longer be King”
Remember back in Heaven and Hell when Prince explained to Xev if she became Queen he could then become “King”?
Also in Nightmare, when they go to Oberons “Plane” he explains that he was once King of *everything* and that his worship was non-stop. He further explains that his ‘Plane’ is seperate from Earth and may or may not be destroyed when Earth is. He explains that every flower represents 1500 years, and there’s an endless amount, meaning Oberon like Prince existed at the beginning of time. But Earth wouldent have.
He also has the same exact hood like uniform that Prince does. With the hood flapping around the back of his head.
Could silly little Oberon (who did thwart Kai utterly) be King?

Also, he had the ability to bring the dead back to life…the thing that surprised me was that Xev never asked him to bring Kai back to life! She never even asked him if he could! Uther’s staff disintegrating Vlad, and in Stanley’s hands, no less?! And the references to immortality, and the proximity of Earth to Fire and Water?I gotta take a minute and sort this all out!!!

28th September 2002 at 3:23 am #57975FlamegrapeParticipantTold ya so.
I told you that Magic Baby and A Midsummer’s Nightmare were two of the most important episodes in the fourth season.
But no, most people got hung up on the overt gay humor to notice.
Oh, and then there was the puppet show. As it turns out, the Druids were followers of the one true religeon. Their legends (in the universe of the Lexx series) explicitly describe the arrival of a Red Fool, a Dark Man, and the Dead One.
I was telling you guys this at DragonCon, too!
Told
ya
so.
But I have to admit, I didn’t notice the bit about Prince wanting to be King. Good one, LexxLurker. Very good one.

That you did, Flamegrape, that you did!
But I never disagreed with you…I HADN’T seen those episodes at the time. Now, thanks to frey, I HAVE seen them and the full realization of how deep this goes is just beginning to sink in. I am beginning to “see the light”…the season 4 light, that is!!!!!!
Yours in humble, belated agreement, Trini [ 27-09-2002: Message edited by: Trini_T ]

I never picked up on the idea that Oberon was King and that Prince was trying to take his place. No, I didn’t pick up on that. That’s a really, really good point.
But what was obvious to me when I first saw A Midsummer’s Nightmare was that Oberon was ruler of Earth. He ruled planet Earth in a manner similar to the way Prince ruled planet Fire. I had repeatedly tried to point this out to people.
The next question is, “Who ruled planet Water?” Maybe the answer is simple. No one ruled planet Water because it was a paradise where no one ruled over anybody else. Everyone there was happy and got along fine with everyone and everything.

Great material for a fifth season. Maybe Oberon could return in a fifth season or a spin-off? He said he liked bunnies. Maybe he would take a liking to Bunny?
The possibilities are endless.
29th September 2002 at 5:46 am #57978AnonymousGuestIf there was a connection between Oberon(King) and Prince, it might help explain why Prince proclaims “Free, at last!” after the Earth was blown up and he materialized on The Noah. Perhaps once Oberons seat of power was destroyed, the hierarchy was destroyed. What if this hierarchy was a system of checks and balances to keep “death” under some type of format, or formal “process”. Duke would have played some major part in this system. What if Prince’s “freedom” means he can now achieve his full potential for evil, and Death is free to run rampid and unhindered throughout the Universe of depravity and chaos? That might also explain why he needed to get Kai out of the way (as in truely dead). Maybe. Sometimes I think he feared Kai for some other reason…? Sometimes I wish I could be like 790-“Don’t know, don’t care”- but this is not one of those times! I’m intrigued! T_T
9th March 2004 at 6:47 am #70247AnonymousGuestI loved Midsummer’s Nightmare, but I have to admit, I never did notice the parallels or alluded to possibilities. I just enjoyed it from a purely personal standpoint. I got to watch them make almost all of the episode. It was and will remain a high point in my otherwise mundane existence. Besides that, Halifax had the most delicious lobster I have ever had cross my lips.
9th March 2004 at 9:16 am #70099nursewhenParticipantWow! Fascinating insights there. (Yes, I know I’ve arrived late to the show. 😳 )I never picked up on any of those poiints. Midsummer’s nightmare wasn’t my favourite episode (in fact few of series four were my favourite episodes) so I didn’t give that one my full attention.
I’ll have to watch it again. 😀9th March 2004 at 3:30 pm #70100AnonymousGuestWell, Giggy apparently was “Queen” on Fire, although she likely was not the original Queen. Her nature seems to have driven her to make a fortress against the “non-shes” like Duke and Prince.
Duke certainly seems to be second in power only to Prince himself, who has the trick of complete control over reincarnation. He’s also a bit less impartial than he should be, as we see in “The Beach” – likely he’s subtly manipulated people for ages, so that “mistakes” such as Fifi could occur.
(This of course overlooking that the Beans probably just named the characters after the streets in Halifax, which like most English colony settlements have King, Queen, Bishop, Duke, etc. streets.)

Yes, but isn’t it great when coincidences form a coherent plot 😀I suppose it explains why Prince wasn’t sure of his power on earth, since he was in the realm of the King
10th March 2004 at 4:34 am #70261JhevzParticipantHi Fellow Lexxians,
This past Friday night/early Saturday morning, I tapes, `A Midsummer Nightmare’, because that’s a good 1 & Xev is again brought back to life; this episode also has Kai singing & has Stan ( 😆 ) as a bride. It’s 1 of the better ones & is also kinda spooky in a good way; it’s also very Celticy & Drued-like.
The next Lexx episode I’ll be taping is: `Dutch Treat’, because I don’t remember the episode; then `Apocolexx Now, The Game, Viva Lexx Vegas, The Trip & Yo Way Yo’. There may be a couple of other Lexx episodes I might be taping from the 4th season.Lexxians Unite,
Jhevz 😉 -
