Aleck, I was wondering why Amazon and VideoFlicks display a different picture for the cover art of the Lexx S2-V3 DVD?
Amazon’s picture features Kai, while VideoFlicks has Xev in the foreground with Stan and Kai off behind her. Both have the correct episode titles listed, though, so I know that they didn’t just mix up covers.
Are there two versions of the cover, or what?
Here are the images: http://www.videoflicks.com/images/1108/V1108797.jpg http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005M0JK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

You know, this is the first I’ve heard of it. As I’ve brought up before, Koch is handling the releases in Canada, and are taking their releases from the glass masters that we’re creating. The product is supposed to be identical, but I didn’t think that they had the option to change their packaging so that it’s inconsistent with our own. The US release has Kai on the cover, and it looks as if, graphically, Koch is appropriating the cover montage idea used in the UK VHS releases. I’ll pass along the info to the people in charge of these things, but I don’t think it means anything in the long run…
Actually, now that I think about it, I seem to remember it being mentioned that Koch (or someone) didn’t want to use Kai as a focus on the cover because he looked (and these aren’t my words) “creepy.” That may be the explanation right there. I didn’t think that they were going to actually change the cover, but I do remember this being mentioned by someone…–Aleck

Jesus…This is exactly why they aren’t supposed to be changing the cover design. There shouldn’t be anything that will encourage cross-border sales. Of course, Videoflicks is only supposed to be selling the US release to orders from the US, but stil…

T’weren’t my intention, X. Just stating the frustration. The bad thing is that Koch has used the images for the next two releases in their cover design for this one. Plus, that image of Xev they used is the same one we’re using for V5, which is just going to be confusing.

Because I’m notoriously stupid when it comes to html.

Precissement! The content on both discs are identical. The only difference is that the Koch releases clip off the Acorn logo at the beginning of the disc. That’s all. The supplements are the same, the programming is the same, etc.
Asking about the releases yesterday, I found out that I was correct. Koch was advised by one of their larger retail customers that Kai was too “creepy” to be the main focus of the cover, and that they would prefer Xev to be the focus on all the releases. Which, of course, means that a good portion of the audience is being ignored, but there you go. Retailers have more influence on these things than you’d think.

i’m of the mind that nomatter what cover
art is finally chosen, it’s whats the
product inside that counts most
if it takes placating skiddish retailers
a bit – hey in the long run it’s ok so
long as you get your product out on the
shelves where the consumer can get to itSF
