Austral comes from the Latin “australis” meaning “south.”
Note that the name “Thodin” probably was probably inspired by Þódin of the Norso-Théodish pantheon.

11th July 2001 at 6:36 pm #47377AnonymousGuestDidn’t Stan come from Austral B? When Zev and Stan go up in the lift in the special projects area the lift door opens and Stan shouts “Don’t shoot, I’m from Austral B!”. He seems to recognize Thodin’s group, possibly from their clothes, and then Thodin himself.
I still haven’t worked out Stan’s history. Was he a heretic like Thodin? What the hell was this thing in the tooth thing? Did the two homosexual mercenaries hand him over to His Divine Shadow after they captured him? Do you know of any web site which gives a clear and consistent account of Stan’s history?
12th July 2001 at 5:15 am #47378AnonymousGuestIsn’t all of Stan’s history pretty much mentioned in his trial in season 2? He was responsible for his home planet’s destruction by His divine Shadow, so “Stan’s Trial” should detail how he came to work for HDS. That’s what springs to my mind, anyway.
12th July 2001 at 10:52 pm #47379AnonymousGuestThe closed-captioning says “Ostral B”
12th July 2001 at 11:04 pm #47380DalekTek790ParticipantThat’s inaccurate. “Austral” is the prefix used in stellar constellations (as in Beta Corona Australis), and I’m sure that’s what the writers meant.

Whovian, Froudian, Lexxian, etc.13th July 2001 at 2:26 am #47381AnonymousGuestWell I like Astral B better than Ostral B. Ostral B sounds like a tooth cleaning product. Austral B sounds so much cooler, like the defenders of the universe.

13th July 2001 at 5:20 am #47382AnonymousGuestWhere did you see this closed captioned, aurora? I suggested Slop check the DVDs, but I checked them myself and there is none on the DVDs. Was this captioning on an aired episode they showed on SciFi or something?
13th July 2001 at 5:41 am #47383AnonymousGuestX the video cassets of the Lexx movies have closed captioning. I’m going to go to Blockbuster later to rent “Giga Shadow”. So I’ll see what it is, stupid DVD’s.

I’ve just been to Blockbuster here in London UK and they haven’t got any Lexx videos.
14th July 2001 at 6:35 am #47387AnonymousGuestDid not know that Slop. And Slop is talking about the American releases distributed by Paramount. The UK and Canadian ones would be different, but the UK may have it cause they were put out by a different company. I think the Canadian movie releases were by the same people who made the movies on DVD, so those may not have it.
ThanX, Slop.

Of course! That makes much more sense than Ostral. Captions are frequently misspelled because captioners usually have to make their own transcripts to work from. And – yes it is the American/Paramount version of the video that I have. At least they’re captioned, even if the DVD’s of Season 2 are not.
15th July 2001 at 1:29 am #47390DalekTek790ParticipantI know, I heard the closed captioning of Alien 3 had “eight-legged creature” when the actual line was “eight-foot creature.”
