KeymasterHi everyone. I’ve been a fan of Lexx since the beginning, and have occasionally lurked around this site. I have found this group intelligent, witty and for the most part, good hearted. I am one of the fans attracted to the dark side of Lexx, as demonstrated in the movies, along with the occasional funny line. How can a show based around a world created by his Divine Shadow and starring these characters be anything else? Although there were certainly silly episodes, the show felt to me to be dealing with larger issues, guilt, love unreturned, the search for happiness ect. Although the third season stayed too long on Fire and Water, the fourth has been singularly disappointing. I agree there is much to criticize regarding American culture (I’m from Colorado), I find Lexx’s attempts too broad and done to death. The complexity of all societies is what makes it interesting and ridiculous. It seems that all Americans are violent bigots, all gay men are queens and all women are sexual bimbos. Not why I watch sci fi. I also am tired of the references to every other movie, no matter how good or innovative that movie was. What I enjoyed about Lexx was it’s originality. I’ve seen those other movies and can reference them, too, but I’m interested in new thinking, like the original story line. Yes, I understand everything has a basis in something else, but Lexx had a highly original start. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed getting to know all of you and appreciate your enjoyment of Lexx, but this is one fan who will not be finishing the season. Good luck to all of you. Don’t get too mad at me, please, I’m easily hurt and after all is said and done, it’s just t.v.

GuestFrom my point of view, ive seen alot of scifi shows who resisted sex, but when the ratings were down, they immediatly put in some sex kitten or some cute kid, or whatever.
I feel sorry for the actress who played 7 of 9 on Voyager. They killed the sensible female role on Dark Skies and inserted her into it towards the end of the series. Same thing for Voyager, except we really got to see her phsyical talents. In that High School drama on FOX, its the same thing. No body could care less about her acting abilities, just show us her tits and hopefully the ratings will rise.
LEXX never needs to stoop to this level of adding sex to boost ratings. They got plenty of it. Loveliner was the best example of twisted alien sex. It strayed from the norm and refused to be defined or even labeled. It is was it was.
Now if all you want is hunky straight men and hot chicks wanting relationships (and theres nothing wrong with wanting that), then by all means turn on Star Trek and feel yourself trapped in the same old boring storylines after a few seasons.
Personally, the storylines of LEXX come closer to real life. If you were stanely tweedle, stuck in space with a sex slave who didnt want you and drove you mad, hell id make it a mission to get nookie ever waking moment of the day. Its like theyre basing that character off your typical teenager.

GuestSeries 4 has been a little silly. But, it is still Lexx. Yes, it is just a TV show, but what a show! Stick it out til the end and you’ll be surprised I bet. Brian Downey said that fans, after the series finale, are gonna want to watch Lexx from end to beginning to see the symmetry of the show. Any fans that stop watching now will miss “The Game” and seeing Stan get the key back in “Dutch Treat”. Plus, the probably mind blowing finale. Here’s an interesting thought: P.T. Brando (played by Hirshfield)in “Lyekka” was killed by Lyekka. In the episode “Fluff Daddy”, Dick Dongler (played by the ame actor) was also killed by Lulu, a look-alike of Lyekka. Finally, for the post previous, the episode is called “Luvliner”, not “Loveliner”.

ParticipantConsider the Lily
Lily, I’m sorry to hear your considered judgement. It sounds like you’ve come a long way only to give up in exasperation. I’m particularly troubled by your fear that you might be attacked for expressing such a judgement. As I’m sure we all are at sadgeezer.com. We are all friends here and all opinions are given a fair hearing (LOL). The expressed concern is actually more common than is publiclly acknowledged here – as indicated to me privately (relax, I’m not going to mention You by name – although a little support would have been nice).
My suspicion is that the makers of Lexx miscalculated by second guessing its audience. its almost as if the fourth season is offered as a corrective or apology for the third season – where many felt was too ‘heavy’, ‘serious’ or ‘singular’. So they went the other extreme. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head by pointing out that the relentless caricaturing and referencing is not doing the show any good. I would suggest, however, that you try and stick with it. Many people here have indicated that the anal probes, enemas, farts, male rape, etc will all make sense ‘in the end’

Bonnee, the only reason your “opinions” were treated with dismissal was that you presented them as acts of provocation. You didn’t present any real critical thinking regarding why you didn’t like S4, only unbased accusations of “selling out” and insights like “Season 4 is stinking up the 2 universes.” In fact, you later admitted that these expressions *were* done as acts of provocation (and later went on to do the same thing — for apparantly no good reason, as doing so negated the intent of your expressed “reasons” for doing so here — at lexx.com’s board under a different name).
(And let me continue with the extended parenthetical statements by saying that the reason that you *continue* to be treated in a dismissive fashion is that your actions have essentially *all* been provocations. From continually making snide comments regarding the current season in order to “get a reaction,” to needling both sides of the argument in a heated exchange between DT and myself, to adapting mocking screen names chosen precisely to provoke reactions from those mocked, to using those screen names on *other boards* where there is no reason to do so other than to extend the argument outside the borders of this discussion area, you have consistently acted only to generate the opposing reaction. You pose as taking a defensive stance against…well, *something*…but your actions have all been offensive.)
Lily presented her disappointment with S4 in a way that deserves respect and consideration. She offers details as to why she finds S4 lacking, and though I may not agree with her assessment, I do understand why she feels this way. She hasn’t presented herself as being courageous enough to expose an “unspoken truth” that we all share about this season. She said in plain, simple language why she felt let down, and left it at that. There was no questioning of others’ tastes, no extended writings about why her position was an objective fact as defined by various schools of philosophical thought, and, perhaps most importantly, she didn’t post 2-line “pithy” comments in practically every thread regarding this season and say the same shallow thing over and over and over and over…
As for others’ opinions: As much as I argue with DT, I don’t immediately write off his opinions or attack them without thinking. I may take issue with the way in which he presents them, or the reasoning that brought him to those opinions (if I see that reasoning as being flawed or misinformed), but I always give his ideas and opinions consideration, and as I’m sure even he will attest (and has, in stating that I was agreeing with him), they are not simply dismissed as being worthless.
That being said, I’d like to apologize to Lily if she has ever received the impression that I, personally, would express anger at her frustration and disappointment with S4. I fully understand her reasoning behind her opinion, even though I don’t fully agree with it. While I’ve been disappointed with a handful of episodes, I’ve felt the same way with handfuls of eps from the previous 3 seasons as well. But humor (and this season, like the second, is primarily humor-based) is an extremely subjective artform, and what provokes bellylaughs from one can be seen as overly cartoonish, exaggerated and silly to another. This humor can, based on how well it’s accepted by the individual viewer, obscure other aspects of the program if it’s not seen as being complimentary, and it’s obvious that this is the case with you. I’m sorry that you feel this way, and if you *do* decide to continue watching, I hope that you find the rest of the season to your liking. If not, well, you can always pretend that it didn’t happen and ignore it like I do with the 3rd season of Star Trek and the ’98 Godzilla film.

ParticipantOh brother! I wasn’t going to say anything but…
I think “Lily” is just bonnee again posting under another name. The appearance of “Lily” is too cooincidental. Read the post again and think about it. It’s just more games.
One statement that “Lily” makes stands out:
“It seems that all Americans are violent bigots, all gay men are queens and all women are sexual bimbos.”
This is exactly the same sort of thing that bonnee stated under other psyeudonyms in other threads and other bboards. No, I’m not going to search through and look them up because I refuse to play bonnee’s game.
The guy is trying to artificially build a case in his favor by saying, “Look! Other people are saying the same things!”
I’m sorry, Aleck, but i think you fell for it. He’s trying to make an ass of you, me, and anyone else who cares.

GuestWell said, Criticize Lexx all you want. Thats what these boards are all for. No-one has a problem with that expect when its just silly 2 line comments along the lines of “Lexx S4 sucks” which is the point I was trying to make in Lexx.com but got beaten down in the end.
My only criticism with S4 so far is that the writers have sometimes gone a bit to lurid and ultra-un-PC at times. Im suprised half of the US wasnt up in arms at some of the scenes in “Prime Ridge” but there you go.

GuestFlame – look, as much as you obviously think i’m gilding the lily – check the isp. I’m dead meat around here, remember? (but not around lexx.com – another coincidence – if possible, check the isp). Seriously, this is getting to be beyond a joke. please stop responding to your own assumptions as if they are self evident or certifying – that is why we have been arguing in the first place and part of the problem of knowledge I’ve been delienating. I don’t want to make a fool of you, but the names I was using in the other thread were either obvious references to the lyrics cited (stinky, mr hinky binky etc) or avowed disguises. I’m sorry – I thought that was apparent. I really thought the song exchanges were in honest, good fun – not some attempt to sustain some sinister pretence. as for on lexx.com – yes, I’m guilty of trying to fool you over there, but I note that you and JJ were eventually nicer to me on less friendly turf – which ilustrates the problem I’ve been talking about (and I dropped so many hints I’m surprised it took so long. By this stage Aleck had already unmasked me over here, so I’m puzzled as to why it wasn’t apparent to either of you there).
Please – Lily is not me. Lily, I’m sorry you’ve been caught in the crossfire between us idiots. please forgive us. this is bringing shame on us all, and it is about time we all acknowlege our role in this ungodly mess. it is simply too easy and plain wrong to want to keep blaming each other.
Aleck – I know why you think you’ve been dismissive of me. no need to reiterate again. I think, though, that you are deliberately misreading the exchange between you, dt and I. It was (and remained) a genuine attempt at good natured discussion, which you ruined by being unaccountably horrible to him. It was obvious he was hurt and confused by the vehemence of your response – as I was at your initial attempt to put me in place – and you simply needed to keep kicking him after knocking him down. and then of course – Flame had to get a kick in, and FX sanctioned said kicking by moving the thread back into the Lexx forum.
DT – I am sorry if my combatants have managed to convince you that I might be using you as a pretext to get back at them. Please try and believe me when I say that I WAS (and remain) completely taken aback by what has transpired between you, Aleck, Flame (and to a lesser extent, FX) – and regard it as symptomatic of a problem that needs to be addressed by Tony. This is nowhere better illustrated than the tendency for those to believe what they want to according to partisan lines and/or existing predispositions. I don’t think that it is any *coincidence* that this has been between three moderators mutually supporting each other and a very active member obviously highly esteemed in their eyes. Whilst i wouldn’t go so far as to imply a conspiracy, I understand why you might feel conspired against. but Aleck knew you weren’t being literal – you were just obviously describing how you were feeling, and he extrapolated from there.
The attempt to willfully obscure raised concerns is bordering on the culpbably ignorant – which is a lot worst than not ‘knowing’ your scifi in the same way as others around here.

Bonnee, I do not believe that your sympathy for me extends beyond an excuse to post inflammatory messages, nor do I condone this “crusade” you’ve started.

Participantwell lilly, as you have probably noticed from lurking, not all of us agree on all the episodes of this season or any other…but there are certain episodes i am looking forward to seeing…and hoping desperately i won’t be disappointed by …i hope you reconsider and stick around to discuss it when it all ends, or at least watch a select few eppy’s like the game (which still isn’t finished folks, ) and apocalexx now, and of course, yo vay yo…you will want to see how it all ends, i promise you…and no, one episode doesn’t make up for ‘filler’, it’s just worth watching on its own…
oh, and flame, thanx for the yucks , dt thanx for being dt

Ok, Ok the ‘my reasoning is never flawed’ statement is a hoot and typical DT (you gotta love him for these little gems!!!), but he’s obviously doesn’t have time for the ever annoying Bonnee, so for once ease up on him.
And at least he recognises that Bonnee is trouble, besides I think our DT can run that annoying so and so into the ground with his intellect…GO DT!!!
Anyway who wants to see Bonnee gone is a good ol’ boy (or girl) in my book.

GuestWhy do we need to argue about whether S4 sucks or not? It doesn’t! It is a continuation of the whole Lexx show arc. To skip season 4 is to skip seeing the characters grow. The actors/actresses and everyone else involved (I count over 105 per episode) have grown as well through the show’s run and it is still not over yet- there are 9 to go! My point is that a show has it’s ups and downs. Lexx has an overall series arc. (I will call Lexx a series with season’s not to confuse anyone.) It is important to note that Brian Downey said , in an interview, that fans of Lexx will want to watch the show from last episode to first to see how and why it works so well. Let’s not concentrate our arguing on one season. Let’s focus on the whole story. Finally, if you do not like season 4, or “Bad Carrot”, “Mort” or whatever, don’t watch it- it’ll save me and other’s from having to listen to disdainful remarks concerning a season that is well written, produced and acted. Kudos to all involved in Lexx!

GuestWell, it’s me, again. Sorry to cause such an uproar. I used the name Lily because, well, that’s my name. Not very original. I’m a real female. I never posted before, here or anywhere. I think I just wanted to express my feelings to a group of people that might understand. Lexx had been important to me in some way and I have been disappointed by this season, that’s all. Since all of you have had the same emotional response to the show, I felt like telling someone. Thanks for your support Fred, Aleck and FX, and your defence of me, Bonnee. I don’t really think I come across like Bonnee, although I’m sure he’s intelligent enough to fake it. I only had one philosophy course in college, and hated it.I was just sad that my love affair with Lexx is over, and wanted to share. I know I’m free to stop watching, I’m just sad about it. Sounds stupid. I know. I might try taping the remainder, then I can fast forward or be pleasantly surprised. Anyway, sorry for the mix up. Thanks for your kind words. Lily (really)
