….any of you peeps in the UK going to the Download festival at Donington in June? just thought i’d ask, on the offchance i could get to meet up with some fellow sadgeezers!! 🙂
this will be the first weekend rock festival i’ve been to. i’ve already heard the stories and had the advice- take plenty of tent pegs (they get pinched), if you here water running down the side of the tent in the middle of the night, don’t assume it’s raining…. 😯
a weekend of beer and greasy kebabs-yum!!! oh, and some damn fine music, too.. particularly looking forward to seeing the headlining bands, Metallica and Linkin Park. i can hardly wait!!:DGosh it’s been a long time since I lived in England, but last I was there Donington hosted Zep, not downloads. 😯 😉

well, 2 days in the sun last weekend, great music,….just not so great company. i went with a couple of the girls from my tae kwon-do class. thought : “we get on great in class, we like the same/ similar music, one of them is even into sci-fi. it’ll be great!!!!” unfortunately, it wasn’t. it was almost like the classic ‘us-vs-them’ thing, when considering people who work in an office or on the factory shopfloor. they work in an office, i work in a factory (not by choice, hence my studies to get me the hell out of there!!!). while there are exceptions to every rule (and there will be plenty amongst you peeps here! 🙂 ), they seemed to be the stereotypical office workers. dictatorial, and ever-so-slightly up themselves. despite trying to make out before the event that they were party animals/beer monsters, and that we would all have a great laugh, when the good bands were on, they made out being sat about 1/4 mile away from the stage gave them a ‘brilliant’ view. i knew from the old Monsters of Rock festival how to get near the front without getting squashed, and the Download set-up was virtually the same. [i]oh, no, we’ll get squashed! we’ll get squashed!! we’re not going down there!!![/i].didn’t listen to single word i said, didn’t even want to try. in the end i went by myself, and got within about 30ft of the front of the stage right. no probs, no squash, great view, great atmosphere in amongst the crowd.
i’ll more than likely be going next year, just won’t be going with them…… 🙁
