Just was wondering how many Sadgeezers are planning on making it this year??
(tad early to think of yet I know)I’m not sure on my end, but am going to make a Monumental effort.
Was there for 2003, missed 2004 😥 so I’d really like to get there again…such a good time!!!
September will be here before we know it!
25th February 2005 at 1:13 am #74173theFreyParticipantSadly, theBrother and I will not be there this year.
I am totally bummed over this, and not just because I want to see Wade/HDS prance around in a page boy wig doing a Johnny Depp inspired Willy Wonka. 😀
But, on the plus side… and I always try to look there….. this means I can marshall my efforts for 2006.
2005 was going to be a problem Lexx track wise, which is why I was ‘not slit my throat’ dispondent over missing it.
26th February 2005 at 2:33 am #74190mandara kParticipantRight now I’m debating attending… lots goings on right now, but if I could convince some to help I say a Saddy table as opposed to a specifically LEXX table. A hodgepodge of all the obsessions I mean shows listed here, with added Sad stuff. The draw of all the shows the site talks about would be the bump for it. I’ve got BSG stuff, lots of LEXX stuff and two seasons of The Prisoner. We have a little time, we could whip something up if that’s okay? That way we have a place to gather, and advertise the site AND bring in lots of sci-fi junkies. We have no track so we can be free to track to anything and especially the costume watching which is the ultimate best part, and um this year, no Romulan Ale for me!
Any one willing to work on this angle?
3rd March 2005 at 5:26 am #74231mandara kParticipantHot damn! I just bought my new Con shoes, which Con it will be i have no idea. My new loveys are my Chuck Taylor hightops but they are black and grey with peace in many languages. They are smoking!
SO, you want me to do any organizing for a table I’ve got THE comfortable run around shoes.
Back to read Goethe’s Faust, talk ’bout duality! It’s got kickin’ insights about humanity! And listening to “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd ittakes me back to that Con with Jeff H and how his wife liked it. “There is no pain, you are receding, a distant ships’ smoke on the horizon, you are going coming through in waves, you lips moves but i can’t hear what your saying.” Marvelous, life is marvelous when you get rid of mind clutter.
3rd March 2005 at 2:56 pm #74236SidhecafeParticipantmandara K, Congrats on the Chucks, you are sounding like quite the Cool One…all Goethe, Pink Floyd and the heady faashion sense!!

And I hear this statement loud and clear…all set with the grad school app. just waiting to hear if I get in now…which may make DCon 2005 difficult to attend if I do, but my sister is Insisting, and I Really want to get back.
I have no idea what I could do to help out at a table – ain’t any stuff I could bring. But if there’s a way I could help out for a couple of hours I’d be more than happy too!
(need to spend time with the family while there too – we don’t get to see each other much)3rd March 2005 at 9:28 pm #74242mandara kParticipant
mandara K, Congrats on the Chucks, you are sounding like quite the Cool One…all Goethe, Pink Floyd and the heady faashion sense!!

What a sweet thing to say! Thank you Sidhecafe, I hope the grad school thing works out for you. Well, if not this yr there is always next ( we hope) meanwhile we will have a jolly old-time on this Saddy BB.
I’m sorry i haven’tbeen around much, but what are you studying? And where are you applying? So many wondrous schools in that area lived there for many years, in and around Boston.
3rd March 2005 at 9:53 pm #74243SidhecafeParticipantBoston’s a very fun place, I usually manage to have a good time! 😉
Actually heading down to the Pour House on Bolyston after work this evening for free apps and beveys.
There are so many schools in this town it’s crazy. I’m applying for a Masters of Theological Studies at Weston in Cambridge. (HDS turned me down – All good, however)
Here’s the real reason I’m such a Philip K. Dick fan…all the Gnosticism in his later works…Valis esp. 😛
Little weird I’m finding to tell folks what and where I’d like to study, seems to provoke a lot of strong reactions in people, not having anythign to do with me and my reasons – which would take getting to know me…no simple answers at the moment.
hopefully at some point I’d love to write some articles on spirituality in scifi – it’s such a great medium for so many things to be examined and commented on, spirituality/religion no exception- once I really get myself educated on the religion side of things.
Any favorite memories from Boston? And thanks for the good wishes for school!

Oh my that brings up memories, they still have that place open? No, the Pour House is an institution for college students, on Boylston right?
Really? i don’t read Philip K, my bro does and loves him. I’ve seen the adapted movies however. May be after Faust, Doestevsky’s Crime and Punishment and may be Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina I’ll sneak that in. I’m into Russian writers now “shrugs”

I bet! To be honest the time has come for new ideas of spirituality and no better genre than sci-fi fantasy. I commend you for that. I try to sneak some beliefs in my own but you really have to be careful to leave it open for all, or you look preachy and I’ve been accused of that. i
t’s just that i have a restlessness, and a need to speed up the process of getting ideas out there and discussed and haggled over. Get in into the collective, or actually point it out or dig it up so it’s not so buried. Do you understand what i mean?
Much of what we experience, though new to our lifetime THIS time around is something we have done time and time again. Someone told me that we get some of the horrors in our lives because not only can we handle them, we HAVE handled them in the past and we are here to show them how it’s done to get through it.
Have fun to night (everybody wang chung tonight)

4th March 2005 at 3:27 am #74246theFreyParticipantYo Wade Chill. A life. I have one. Sometimes it keeps me busy. 🙂 Why the angst? You know I love ya.
*frey makes mental note to send Wade a basket of Patience next time she orders some.* 😉
Yeah I do. There’s so much room for discussions like that but lots of people couldn’t be bothered, part of the reason I need to be back in an academic setting for a while…find some folks to stir stiff up with! And Weston is a very progressive school. There are such strong stereotypes about religious people..the politically agenda-ed folks aren’t helping that – I find myself having to educate people that those are stereotypes. Not everyone with strong spiritual beliefs/practices are the same.
Regardless of which group they associate or identify with.I agree with your friend’s idea of being able to handle what comes your way. People are capable of a lot more than we generally give ourselves credit for.
And yes, The Pour House is pretty much a college crowd upstairs. Downstairs there were a lot of suits- but it was fun! Heading out again tonight (party girl? me? 😳 ) Probably somewhere for a good martini!

What? no call back and now this
HDS as Willy Wonka?!?!? Wasn’t this the same man who made the dashing Capt Jack Sparrow 2 cons ago??
And no thefrey 😥 Was looking forward to a chance meeting with this well written Saddy Goddess!4th March 2005 at 8:41 pm #74252JhevzParticipantHi Fellow Sci-Fi Fans,
I’ll also be attending this yr’s Dragon*Con & will be wearing my Alive Keyeo/Prince (which I’m currently working on) & Alive Keyeo costumes; since I’m currently working on my Keyeo/Prince outfit, I’ll then be working on my other Keyeo costume, but 1st, I’ve got to hem both red pants. Otherwise, I’ll be meeting you all down the escalators, the hard way; thanks, but no thanks; I’ve already got a broken finger. I’ll keep you all informed about how both costumes are going.
Hopefully, I’ll be taking more pics of you guys, especially Wade/HDS, & be going to more panels; I’ll also be showing you pics of Toronto, Lake Simcoe, Nature Wilde & Niagra & the other trip we’re thinking about going to this yr (I’ll tell more about that later). I’ll even show you some pics I took from the last Gally.
Frey, I’m sorry I won’t be seeing you at this y’rs but may be next yr; take care & have a great Summer.Sci-Fi Fans Unite,
Jhevz 😉10th March 2005 at 12:49 am #74276theFreyParticipantShould you guys decide you want to do a ‘geezer table, you need to get some stuff taken care of now.
1st the table HAS to be manned from friday at noon to sunday evening…. they will say monday, but very few are mannned on monday. This means you need a roster of people who have pledged to man the table. Otherwise the con gods will smite thee down. They will have to be on site by 10 am each day. Room usually dies about 6. So that is a solid 8 hours a day that has to be covered. You need a roster
2nd You need display to attaract people. The con gods to watch to see if people come to the table. If the set up is skimmpy or avoided they may shut you down as there is a major waiting list for tables.
3rd all of the above need to be decide pretty too-sweet because you will have to request a table before they are all gone, or get on the waiting list.
I loved having one, but I will say it was a lot of making sure there were people there to man the table. Not always easy in a con this distracting. Many thanks to Mandara, Mike_L, Jhevz, Wade, Sara, Krodelka, Aleck, Beth, Corvus, Todd, the Corvus clan and many others for the assistance they gave last year.
10th March 2005 at 8:09 am #74280mandara kParticipantYikes! I’m not even sure I can go but if I can reserve stuff now to pass the torch in a pinch I’ll do that now. Oh great Frey. PM me with details. my Dad’s health precludes everything now, so commitment this early is impossible. But I want to be there, boy do i want to be there!
11th March 2005 at 3:12 am #74286theFreyParticipantWho ever reserves the table has to be there to get it. Also you should have a roster in place of people who have committed to man the table. Groups that make a poor showing most likely will not be alowed a second chance. There is a lot of competion for the tables (which are free) and they want them to go to groups who make a good display, excite a lot of interest and follow the rules.
It can be both fun and tiring at the same time. 😀
