X, you loveable lunkhead, I never argued that it wasn’t originally 59 minutes long. Like I said, *most* TV shows run long, and have to be edited down prior to broadcast. This one happened to run quite a bit over the allotted time. What I’m saying is that it’s doubtful that Salter sent a broadcast master to Sci Fi, or anywhere else for that matter, that was 59 minutes long. If you notice, Paul refers to those missing 15 minutes (which is a rounding up, it should actually be closer to between 12-13 minutes to create a 47-48 minute long international master) as *outtakes.* That were edited out. He didn’t say that *Sci Fi* edited them out, as chances are that they *knew* that it was too long (I mean, they’re pretty up on how long TV programs are supposed to run over there), and they cut those minutes out themselves rather than send every broadcaster a completely un-airable version and leave it up to them to choose what needs to stay or go. Seriously, if they left that kind of editing decision to Sci Fi, do you think that the episode would be the least bit coherent? Plus, with all the countries broadcasting LEXX, you’d end up with a handful of variant cuts of the episode, and it would take a international consortium just to determine what was going on.
Anyhoo, you big goofball, you just re-affirmed my point…the missing 15 (or so) minutes are considered *outtakes*. They’re not considered part and parcel of the episode that was sent out for broadcast. Now, if we’re talking variant “director’s cuts” of the episode, I’m sure they could be re-integrated for the DVD release (or, if you wanted to get fancy, which would require more budget than I think we have, we could have a seamless branching thing done where you could watch them either with or without the outtakes integrated into the program).
