Since it’s going to be a long time between eps for us, and everyone has a little poll going, I thought one about the music would be nice, and didn’t notice anyone posting it recently, (but if they did, MY BAD) apolgising in advance.
Name your favorite piece of music (besides Brigadoom, thank you, we’ll just place that in it’s own little category to save time).
the season and ep it was in, and what scene it punctuated.My fave was;
1. Lexx escapes, in IWHS, season 1
the scene where the ship starts taking off from port, it still sends shivers down my spine when I see the giant bug scour the sky over the Cobalt dome.
2.Opening scene for season 3, Prince to Lexx, the scene where the gondola and Prince attempt to catch up to it in orbit, unbelievable piece of music, especially from the s/t.
3. Prince’s theme; season 3, while on board Gondola, while Prince-Kai and Fifi discuss Xev.
4. The character theme for the ship, the chiming guitar part is astounding!21st October 2001 at 2:59 am #56551AnonymousGuestLyekka’s theme. Simple, hauntingly beautiful, and sinister.

Zev’s shower
Prince’s themeHey, some of them would make pretty decent party music, if you run out of tunes.

Yep, I started a thread last week called Lexx soundtrack consumption & digestion. No big deal! I was addressing the specific issue of where and how to get the soundtrack, etc. It didn’t talk about favorite tracks.
Here are my favorite tracks:
Tales From A Parallel Universe (1997) by Marty Simon
#5 Battle of the Universe – Used as the closing credits of all the episodes.
#12 The Lexx Escape – Used when the Lexx escaped the cluster. Also used for opening credits.
#14 Cleric Theme – I like it because it’s freaky!!!
#21 Moth Ride – Sometimes used when they ride around in the moth. It’s cute!Lexx: The Series (1997) by Marty Simon
#3 Prince To Lexx – This is the track used at the beginning of season 3 when Prince boards the Lexx. Very Cool!
#13 Xev’s Dream – Yummy, playful, delightful, xevolicious.
#17 Lyekka / Potato Hoe – No, not the Lyekka part! The Potato Hoe Part! It’s so goofy it makes me giggle! I can tell it’s all synthisizer, but that’s okay. I’d love to hear a real bluegrass banjo breakdown of that tune! (Yes, I live in Appalachia and we do wear shoes.)
#23 The Xev Show – Corny, but c’mon! It’s the Xev Show!!!
#26 Zev Dies – This is my favorite track of them all. It’s used whenever there is a particularly touching moment on the show. I commented about it in another thread about touching moments on Lexx. It contains a subtle variation of Yo-A-O.I’ve been able to find a number of tracks on AudioGalaxy.Com, but not all of them nor are they all complete or of good quality. (And beleive me, I’ve been searching!) I highly recommend buying the discs. They’ll be worth it!!!!
I’m in the process of obtaining the soundtracks through a local store that I like. Buyer beware! I received a new copy of Lexx: The Series but the disc, in fact, contained the wrong music! They goofed at the factory. I was amused more than annoyed. I’m still looking for both discs.
21st October 2001 at 6:37 am #56554dgrequeenParticipantThere are so many!
Cleric Theme, Battle of the Universe, and Shadows and Prophets from the first CD. I’m also kind of fond of Feppo’s Party (Stan’s song if ever was), and Brunnis.
Angel Song (Nook), A Walk in the Desert (Battle), Wild,Wild Lexx, Zev Dies (Terminal), and The Search (Girltown) all from the second CD.
If I had to choose which music most typifies Lexx, I’d have to pick Cleric Theme and Shadows and Prophets (“And if I do not return, destroy the Lexx…but the Divine Predecessors?!?… will understand that my priority must now be to end this prophecy. The Last of the Brunnen-G *must* be destroyed!”)
21st October 2001 at 6:40 am #56555AnonymousGuestSo hard to choose! I like all of the ones mentioned already. I have both soundtracks and love just about everything. In addition to the ones already mentioned:
I really love “Brunnis” off the first one…this was the music that played while they were in the moth flying down to Brunnis in Super Nova, and exploring the library building.
Off the second soundtrack, I really like “Wild, Wild Lexx”, though I’m not sure where or even if it was ever used.
Then there’s “A Walk in the Desert”, where Xev ends up on Fire after the battle.
I like “Galley”, where Xev is teasing the potatonaut.
“The Search”, where Stan and Kai are flying over the desert of Fire searching for Xev.
Most of these have been used over and over, of course. I always have fun when I recognize a piece of music, and remember where it was first used.
Oh, and of course the Yo-A-O battle song! Can’t forget that one!
21st October 2001 at 7:08 am #56556HeadgehogParticipantHands down, The Lexx Escape.
21st October 2001 at 7:46 am #56557AnonymousGuestI agree Headge..the writers themselves said that piece of music was the epitome of all they’d hope to bring to the series. They said when the scene was done with the music, it actually brought tears to their eyes…Marty Simon is a genius, pure and simple. Lexx would not be Lexx without his music…
Hats off to Marty.21st October 2001 at 8:10 am #56558FlamegrapeParticipantquote:

Hats off to Marty.
Oh wow! That’s so cool! That echoing electric guitar emphasized so well the unbelievable size of the Lexx. At the time, this was not an easy thing to convey with computer animation. (I know this since I went to school studying computer art at the time!) They executed that sequence so well! And I know that feeling; tear-to-your-eyes realization that the effect of your creation was achieved in a way that is beautiful.
This is what I felt when I finished my demo reel at school. Talking about this gestalt, this coming together of electric emotion inspires me to this day.

The Time Prophet’s Song22nd October 2001 at 11:54 am #56563sgtdrainoParticipantWithout a doubt, my most favorite Lexx musical piece is…
The REMIX of the Cleric Theme, as used in the opening of several of the Season 2 episodes.
“I am the Lexx. I am the most powerful weapon in the two universes.”
To me, this is will always be what I think of, when I think of Lexx beginning. I thought it caught the mood just right.
22nd October 2001 at 12:08 pm #56564sgtdrainoParticipantHmmm, that’s weird. I wrote some stuff in little triangly brackets “” and it didn’t post. Hmmm.
At any rate, you guys prolly know the opening I’m talking about.

23rd October 2001 at 9:41 pm #56566DalekTek790ParticipantActually, “Lyekka” and “Potato Hoe” are the same song, so that would get three votes.
I have a couple of questions for the experts. Which episode of the secod season first had “Girl Awakes”? May’s post says 791 but the alternate title for the track at the Music from the Dark Zone site is “Norb Launch” and the Norb launch scene took place in White Trash which came before 791. Also, which was the first second season episode to have “Cleric Remix 2” in the opening credits? One final question, which of the movies had “Wild, Wild Lexx” in it? I can place most of the songs but that one escapes me.
23rd October 2001 at 10:09 pm #56567AnonymousGuestLyekka and Potato Hoe are only one song on the soundtrack, not in the episode.
Girl Awakes (on the soundtrack) obviously refers to the ep 791, for when Kai opens the pod to release the female criminal, I’m sure they used in the other ep, but since there’s no ‘girl’ in Norb, I went with the other ep title.
As for the remix of Cleric theme, and the first time it was played, I’d have to go back and check, but it’s somewhere in the middle of season 2.
Wild wild Lexx has been used on various background pieces (minus Xev’s voice) in a couple of different eps, but so short, you can barely recognize it. And since the poll is for the music (not necessarily the EP music) and some of the favorites are from the soundtracks, some people voted for it.You’ll find many of these pieces of music have shown up in several locations. I used the official titles whenever I could. For example, the ‘bad porn’ music one hears in Supernova also shows up for a second in Fluffdady with Xev and Living Kai.
And if anyone can give me the ep where the Cleric remix starts, I’d appreciate it, several others have asked about that one.24th October 2001 at 12:51 am #56568sgtdrainoParticipantIt seems the opening themes/visuals for Season 2 tend to vary in composition and length for the episodes Sci-Fi broadcasts, depending on how much commercial time they’re trying to pack in, and the varying length of the episode.
There are two basic season 2 themes. Both start with the “monk chant,” and with Lexx saying, “I am the Lexx, I am the most powerful weapon of destruction in the two universes.”
What follows next, is either a remix of the Cleric Theme from Giga Shadow, or a rather tuneless “dum-dum, dee-dum, dee-dum, dee-dum” theme which (I think) was scored just for the opening, and wasn’t derived from anything else. For lack of a better word, I’ll refer to this second theme as the “Beat Theme” (because it mostly just consists of a catchy rythym/beat).
Both themes are used quite early in Season 2. At least in the episodes I taped off of Sci-Fi.
2.1 Mantrid uses the Cleric Remix
(but an extra-short version)
2.2 Terminal uses the Beat Theme
2.3 Lyekka uses the Cleric Remix again
(this time the full version)And (I think) most if not all of the later Season 2 episodes use the Beat Theme. I know Brigadoom did, since I recently looked at that one.
24th October 2001 at 1:33 am #56569DalekTek790ParticipantOkay, I know the name is from 791, but I think “Girl Awakes/Norb Launch” was first played in White Trash (in the scene where the hillbilly Anakin Skywalker is almost blown up by the Lexx’s beams but manages to get his ship off of Vermal just in time). I may be wrong, though.
Oh, and “Cleric Chant” was in I Worship His Shadow, not Just The Giga Shadow. And “Xev’s Dream” is from The Net, not Love Grows.
For some reason I thought “Wild, Wild Lexx” was from the movies. I still don’t know which season two episode it debuted in. Does anybody?
24th October 2001 at 6:41 am #56570sgtdrainoParticipantThe Cleric “Chant” was, but the Cleric “Theme” was not.
The Cleric Theme is the theme heard during Giga Shadow, when rebel Clerics try to prevent the Divine Rebirth, and later as the Giga Shadow busts out of the Cluster. The theme was remixed/redone as an opening theme for a few season 2 episodes.
24th October 2001 at 7:45 am #56571AnonymousGuestAll Rightey! A real debate!!
1. Girl Awakes/Norb are indeed used interchangeably, howver, the person who voted for it voted as Girl Awakes. So it really doesn’t matter which ep, it’s still just the one vote.
2.Clerics ‘Chant’, Theme, or whatever:
Used in one or more incarntations so therefore, it’s one song for the purposes of the voting. That’s why I put it as Var.Eps
3. Wild wild Lexx: most of the people that voted for this voted from the soundtrack, but I could have sworn I heard it on either Stan’s Trial (the floating bordello in space)
or background music in the porn flick the guys in “Love Grows” were watching before their ship got eaten by the Lexx. But I could be wrong. There’s several pieces of ‘bad porn’ music floating around that series…hmmmm got any ideas on that Paul?24th October 2001 at 7:50 am #56572DalekTek790Participantquote:

What’s the difference?
The “be-em-bay” chant is the main component in the track called “Cleric Theme” and is the first part of both season 2 opening themes. It was heard in I Worship His Shadow when the Lexx is being pursued by the Cluster’s 24th Attack Wing.

I wasn’t trying to criticize the voting results, I just wanted to find out which episode it was in first for the purpose of personal knowledge. I think I was the (only) one who voted for it, actually.

2nd November 2001 at 9:11 am #56580AnonymousGuestHey Verti, Crank up track #3, Prince to Lexx,
and sit back and be swept away with one of the most powerful tv tracks ever made….2nd November 2001 at 3:49 pm #56581AnonymousGuestI liked the music at the beginning of series 2 when it shows the human explorer/ scientists going down to the planetoid that was later to become the Cluster. It is mostly percussion and repetitive but it somehow enhances the feeling of going down to an alien planet.
I was very excited by the music in IWHS when the prison ships come in to land on the Cluster.
Like others I like the music in IWHS where Lexx breaks free.
I also loved the music that occurs at the end of several episodes where they are safe and they continue their search for a home.
