Hi All,

I’m planning to do some critical writing on Lexx, and I want to do an analysis of ActorKai’s choice of texts in Fluffdaddy, but I’m having the devil’s own time finding any info. on the German he rattles off. Just going by ear, it sounds like what he says before Xev and Kai start talking over him is: “Geh hin und such sich einen andren Knecht.”

Can anyone help me with this by:
1) Letting me know if I heard it right.
2) Explaining where this comes from (I’m sure they didn’t just make it up!)
3) Any suggestions on where else I might look for answers to 1 and 2?

Thanks!!

It is: Geh hin und such Dir einen anderen Knecht….

It’s from the introduction to Goethe’s Faust and shouldn’t be hard to find.

And that’s a choice of text that should give you plenty of material for analyis!!

Thanks!

Yeah, “sich” really makes no sense, does it? (Very rusty German here.)

That *is* a lot to analyze. Here I was with my nice Henry V thesis all worked out, and now I get to go and be confused by Goethe. Well, it’s good confusion!
