KeymasterOk,
I finally got S3 Dvd’s and I do think that much of the scene between Kai and May was shortened on TV (at least I don’t remember this much)S4 Spoiler alert—–
And it’s an important scene! When May and Kai discuss the fact that he is dead she says somthing like ” we can help you”, meaning her and prince? It’s a clear indication that she knows prince can bring kai back to life—–
It’s also nice to see Kai interacting with a new character.

GuestWhich ep/scene roughly is that?
I remember seeing May originally and thinking it was Zev. Of course that theory was blown out of the Water (har har) by the end of the episode. She looked so much like Eva Habbermann.

GuestIts the episode “May”, I somehow posted as May, instead of about May—
I can’t figure out whether or not may is good or bad– even after having seen all of S3 when it was first on in the US.
I also like her costume, almost as much as the costumes in Garden.

GuestLizard, love May’s costume as well. Totally cool.
May happens to be one of my favorite Lexx episodes, I actually think it’s brilliant:
visually beautiful, really well constructed and includes some of the most interesting character interactions we’ve seen. So now you’ve wound me up and I’m going on…..
(Spoilers ahead if anyone cares)Regarding the foreshadowing: I think what May says is “I will help you” and in the context of that scene she’s referring back to Kai’s request for help in finding Xev. However, that whole scene is ripe with subtext, and in view of later events there probably is some foreshadowing.
I think what actually happens in the few minutes of conversation between his request for help and her agreement, is that she comes to understand and tacitly acknowledge that Kai is not human and not suitable quarry for her. When she talks to Stan in the gondola later in the episode, she does exactly the same thing she did with Kai. Both times she uses her flute to draw them to her (siren–water–OK, OK I’ll stop), and starts the conversation in the same way: “Music dulls the pain”. Stanley is immediately drawn in and she’s found her victim.
May’s interaction with Stanley and Kai is wonderful I think. With May and Kai you see these two really unearthly creatures circling each other and trying to figure out what they’re dealing with. When Stanley sees her, all the unapproachable women he could never have suddenly reach out for him–Stanley is stripped of his usual sexual bluster and actually shows sincerity and delicacy in the way he deals with May. I thought the actors all did a great job.
There’s a lot more great stuff in the episode–including of course one of the great loopy Lexx moments when Kai activates the mothbreeders that he kept quiet about for 4,000 years because “you never asked”

GuestMay was a great ep! I REALLY thought May was going to be added to the recurring cast of characters! elmey’s impressions of the May/Kai interaction are exactly what I thought, also. However, I also agree with LexxLurker- I believed she was the reincarnation of Zev. She did look alittle like Zev, and it appeared to me Kai showed an awful amount of emotion- well, maybe not emotion but it sure looked like alot was going on in his head. And did you catch the music? They used a variation of the same “love theme” that was used in the movies whenever Zev was plastered to Kai’s cryochamber pining away for him. It could have gone in that direction- the whole story arc was death, afterlife, reincarnation, etc. …wasn’t it? Or did I miss something important-as usual! Naw, you got it right…though the execution of the ideas got a little messy towards the end I think.
And I agree with you, I would have loved to have seen more of May, what an interesting character.

GuestInteresting theory about the music and May as Siren. This one completely escaped me, good call. I also find May an interesting character. I believe May did have some thrall over the planet Water. How else would she have known that Xev was NOT on the planet Water unless she was in a position of power or knowledge?
I also have a theory about the resurrection of May. Spoilers ahead for Gametown, and mild spoilers for other eps as well, so cover your eyes or look away:
I believe it was within the nature of Prince to not only return as whomever he wished, but that he also had the ability to reincarnate wherever he had physically been present before. Remember how quickly he left the bridge of the Lexx to reappear in the Cryochamber? Stanley was trying to activate Kai, but Prince was there and stopped him. Thus, he was able to materialize (or whatever) on the Lexx after he had been there physically. If this were not the case, why the balloon attempts to reach the Lexx? If he could simply appear anywhere at any time, why wouldn’t he have materialized inside the Lexx?
Thus, at the end of Tunnels, he was dead on the floor as well as reincarnated as PrinceXev and touching Stan’s shoulder. I do think Prince was reanimating May when she returned from death. Perhaps it was his ‘otherness’ which made him capable of being some aspect of May while also being present as Prince.
Also, as the season went on with The Beach and Heaven and Hell, it seemed obvious to me that Prince was also able to be in 2 places at once. In Heaven and Hell, Prince was with Xev at the same time an incarnation of him was within the planet Fire with Kai, lightly tripping along hand in hand.
Does any of this make any sense at all to anyone else? Now, I’m confused. Never mind.
