I’ve noticed a distinct anti-me trend materializing lately.
I was just going through my old posts looking for good text to use in the [i]Lexx[/i] section of my website when I came across this-quote:

At the other message boards I frequent the people are nice and treat each member, new or old, with the courtesy and respect they deserve. But here it’s like the popular members are always preying on the weak.
I’ve never acted arrogant or egocentric and have always maintained my pacifist nature no matter what anybody says about me.
Aleck-I’ve always responded nicely to your misguided posts and tried to be friends, but you just won’t be anything but adversarial.
Squish-Why do you have to be so confrontational? Not long ago you were being nice to me.
I think this is all silly and immature and strongly suggest the line of discussion be discontinued. Up until now I have been generous but I can be cruel.

Dalektek, I still want to be on friendly terms with you, but adding lines to your post like ‘Aleck’s dogmatism and Squish’s anti-intellectualism do not threaten me.’ is not really going too smooth things over is it?
The whole thing started with me trying in a funny way to show people that there are worse characters out there than you, as you do sometimes get a rough deal…in a way I was on your side, but you took it the wrong way.
Then it degenerated into an unbelievable display of arrogance from you.
Now for me that makes it difficult for me to like you, but I’m happy to let bygones be bygones.
This board is extremely friendly and I’ve never had a cross word with anyone, but the point I was trying to make all along was that you go overboard with your posts and it does upset people, I was desperately trying (and obviously failing miserably) to help you get along with some of the people on this board by avoiding some of the thing’s you do, that was only done in your interests and was not a personal attack.
You have distinct knack of seeing things the wrong way, and I know you and Aleck have your history of spate’s and that’s something I don’t wish to be included in.
But if so many people say exactly the same thing about you, then don’t you think you should at least have a good long think of how you conduct yourself on this board.
They are all trying to tell you in the nicest way possible that you can come across arrogantly and that it does make it difficult to respond to you in a nice manner.
Don’t take everything to heart and learn something from this thread, so that we can all get along a little better!!!

Things ranging from your presumption that you can speak for everyone on the board, to implying that everyone on the board is below your intelligence level, to saying things like “FX, I don’t know *what* you are,” and on and on…

And you won’t be anything but pig-headed in believing that you and your reasoning are beyond criticism. Any time you speak down to others and they counter your ARROGANT and EGOCENTRIC asides, you come back with “I don’t understand why everyone disagrees with me…this unnamed group of people that I know (you don’t know them…they’re from Canada, and you haven’t met them) all agree with me…” and all the while NEVER ADMIT THAT YOU’RE WRONG. Of course, your blinders don’t allow you to *see* when you’ve been wrong. “I don’t see how anyone could argue with my record of being right about [i]LEXX[/i]…What? All I said (in the first case you quote) is that we didn’t need an in-depth sexual discussion on our sci-fi board. I was speaking as the collective board member, but then there was this backstabbing and I ended up just representing myself.
That was the same time I was acting as pseudomoderator because there were transgressions slipping through the cracks. F.X. got all territorial and deleted a bunch of my posts, and (worse) edited one to say something completely different from what I originally said. Yes, I remember all the.

Once again you misrepresent me. This is like that time you said I was a fudamentalist Christian just because I said there was too much violence in the media. I never said everyone on the board was below my intellectual level. There was just something I posted that people clearly weren’t understanding. And the F.X. thing you’re quoting (out of context) was a response to something that she wrote in Hebrew in one of her posts. And I believe my exact words were “I don’t speak…whatever she is. [img]http://www.sadgeezer.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img]” Just natural good humor.

I still don’t see how you could twist things so much as to call [b]me[/b] arrogant. If you really knew me you’d realize I’m very modest, selfless, and introverted. And I live in the U.S.

When I’m wrong I admit I’m wrong. Just I won’t say I’m wrong because somebody else said so without providing any basis for that claim. I never said the fourth season would be in a futuristic utopia.
The clone theory came from the need to explain how Mantrid and Vigo showed up with no memory (this was long before the shocking revelation that Fire and Water were Heaven and Hell). Yes, that was wrong. But you didn’t give a better explanation (you never offer alternative theories, just contradict mine), or show any fault in my reasoning. I laid out a tentative theory that the King of Fire was His Divine Shadow because it was strongly implied by the episodes. The Beans threw a number of things into the third season to throw inquisitive viewers off track (remember Duke’s words in [i]Gondola[/i]?.
I am always willing to logically consider any possibility, unlike you, who remain locked in a certain mindset and fail to consider any evidence contradicting other interpretations.

No, it is a quote from the Brian Froud film [i]Labyrinth[/i] where the Goblin King explains to Sarah that, even though she sees him as her enemy, all the long he was just doing what she asked. I think you might find a parallel with this discussion.
Which brings me to my point that I’ve been trying to make for a while: this discussion is over. It should’ve ended a long time ago. It should’ve never existed in the first place, let alone come to this. I will try once more to stop this insanity. If it keeps going things will only get worse. There’s nothing more to discuss. This thread has come to the end of its spool.

There were *several* instances in which you proclaimed yourself “voice of the board.” You even explicitly *said* “I am speaking for the membership of this board.” For instance, when you were going on about how [i]LEXX[/i]’s sexual themes were disgusting and perverted, you said “I am only saying what we’re all thinking.” That may have been the same time that you were “acting as pseudomoderator,” but there are problems with that statement as well…Who asked you to be a “moderator?” Who gave you the authority to speak on behalf of the board as a collective? Of course, you, being the well-educated fellow that you are, will recognize that by calling yourself a pseudomoderator, you are saying that you were a “fake” or “false” moderator, which means that your position of authority is a lie. You say you were acting in this capacity under the pseudonym Deuce X. MacInaugh, however this was an alias that you used as a *prank* and was never meant to be taken seriously. Face it, DT, you never had any authority to act in the way you did, which means you had the *arrogance* to proclaim yourself an authority based only on your long-standing presence here. And, for the record, I was not the only one who said things against your “voice of the board” statements. Most people who posted said the same thing I did, which kind of dilutes your position as the “vox populi.”

I have always provided you with specifics. I provided you with specifics in the same post you are responding to. You want more specifics? See above. See also your statements such as “I am only here to give the benefit of my wisdom.” “I didn’t think anyone here could figure that out.” “I hope I have been enlightening.” “How can people still doubt me?” “Aleck is just a pyrrhonist who will doubt his eyes and ears just to maintain the illogical position that I am wrong.” All of these statements imply that it is impossible that you could be wrong, that you have wisdom that others here do not have, that no one has the mental capacity to comprehend you (since you paint the picture that no one understood what you were saying when you made this statement, you said this when people figured out that you were posting under a different name and you were surprised that people were smart enough to figure out your ruse), all of them arrogant, prideful statements.

Again, you misrepresent yourself and the past. I never said you were a fundamentalist Christian. I said that the views you held were identical to fundie views. And it wasn’t just violence in the media. You were saying this about Xev’s clothing, about the sexual aspect of the show, about the violence, about the lack of remorse shown, about how [i]LEXX[/i] was, to quote you again, “sexist and sinful.” Others directly claimed that you were a fundamentalist Christian.

And these are my final words in this thread. As always, you’ve supported everything I have believed about you. When I’ve pointed out particular instances where you’ve been wrong, you’ve ignored them. When you categorically act with arrogance and egocentrism, you either flat-out deny it or come up with half-baked (and half-true) excuses for your behavior. You misrepresent yourself, your statements, and anything that could possibly be criticized. You paint those who would criticize you as liars, and reply with doe-eyed faux sincerity: “I don’t understand why people keep picking on me.” You never admit when you’re wrong, and when confronted with being wrong, you issue some vague statement that “I won’t admit it when there’s been no proof.” And yet, after all this, after every time you get “insulted,” after every time you receive “personal attacks” for your inhospitable behavior, you keep coming back and provoking more of it. I’m sure you don’t see yourself as arrogant, Dalek, but other people see you that way and lengthy explainations of why you’re not what they think you are don’t seem to be helping. Aleck, DalekTek, I think you two just need to agree to disagree, because otherwise all I see in the future are more arguments like this. I’m not trying to take sides here…just trying to be the peacemaker cuz I’m tired of your arguments and I’m sure others are too.
