ParticipantPeter Pan? Of course being me – I could be wrong…… My vote would be the Vice President of the United States of America – Dick Cheney. On second thought…..a bad choice as he would end up being Number 2 and Number 1 😉 .

Dude! That website is still there?! 😆 Awesome! I love that guy!
I would cast Dom Deloise (sp?) as the Leo McKern Number 2.
83;)

Phi: There are a lot of cool parallels between that Peter Pan guy and the Prisoner — very Prisoneresque methinks verily fer sure.
Obviously he’s dressed like Peter Pan as is the Number 2 from Dance of the Dead, but if that’s not already more than enough, and it is… He writes at the page I linked to, ”I also love to dance, though I must confess my dancing is indeed very silly!” Dance? Dance of the Dead? Coincidence? And what’s sillier than dead people dancing? Lots of things, but that’s beside the point. 👿
He also writes, ”Sometimes it has been a difficult and lonely road to be so openly unique, and I confess … But the human spirit is hard to supress, and I have made my choice to be true to myself in this life.” The Prisoner is rather unique amongst Villagers, and chooses not to conform to societal expectations, and that bit about the human spirit being hard to supress! Well, I believe P. McGoohan has said that, and it’s so Number 6! However, unlike Mr. Peter Pan there, No. 6 never confessed.
Like the Prisoner, he seeks to be individidual in a world that expects him to conform and punishes those who don’t — Unmutual! (but unlike disharmonious Number 6, this Peter Pan can carry a tune very well). There’s more, but I think I’ve said enough, I’ll give him the last word on this… ”I know this all makes me a silly boy.”
No. 83, Dom Deloise (sp?) would make a good new Number 2, perhaps his son Peter could play Number 2’s son, who… Erm, where was I going with this?
No. 5 😀

ParticipantHow about John Rhys-Davies in the Leo McKern role? There’s a certain similarity in the look, and I think Rhys-Davies is a wonderful actor ( let’s not hold Sliders against him ).
I think this has been mentioned before, but I think Rowan Atkinson would make a wonderful Number 2. He’s so engaging in the ” git ” roles. I have no doubt he has the range to play a serious role.
PMcG himself in the role would be awesome. I daresay he’d be the ultimate choice.

Chief Streudel, erm, I mean 99… 🙂 John Rhys-Davies would make a great Leo McKernesque Number 2, and is a fine actor, though I tend to think of him more as a younger Peter Ustinov. I quite like Sliders actually, but his reputation did slide downhill a bit with that one. Sliders…
I think Rowan A. would make a fine No. 6; he has the build for it, and the character could benefit from his brand of physicality. And he can be a git, but he can also be very debonaire (the later Black Adders). I often imagine Mr. Bean running along the beach being pursued by Rover (his funny run); the image always cracks me up. I think of that a lot for some reason… “I am not a number, I’m a runner Bean!”
PMcG was considered for No. 2 in the planned US movie version.
He would be the ultimate! If they remake the series in the US (there have been some rumours of a Disney cartoon version; just rumours):
I think that Fran Dresher (of The Nanny fame) would make an excellent No. 58 (from Free For All). I really think she has the irritating down to a fine art (probably the laugh). However, it probably wou;ldn’t work so well when 58 is Number 2 at then end.
BTW, No. 58/2 was one of my absolute favourite characters from The Prisoner. An excellent transformation! No. 6’s conversion was pretty darned good too. 🙂
Samuel L. Jackson, one of my favourite actors, would make a very cool and menacing Number 2. “Who’s the meanest mothah in all the Village? Number 2!” Perhaps he’d make an even better Rover…
It’s my Rover vs. your K-9…
Getting totally off-topic for a moment, who would win in a duel between Dr. Who’s K-9 and The Prisoner’s Rover? Rover has that bouncy ball action, but K-9’s bark is NOT worse than his bite — he has laser eyes.No. 5
