Yep, it be (semi) official there will only be one Lexx Panel at DC this year…. blighters. 😛 And of course that does not stop the (inadvertent) hi-jacking of any general sci-fi forums to the Lexxian mandate. muhahahah
but… the main problem right now, I mean other than the fact that the powers that be don’t ‘get’ Lexx…. is the forum… Since we are only getting one… it has to be pretty general…. none of the suggestions submitted this year have clicked….. none of the left over suggestions from last year have clicked…. and we need to come up with something… Sigh…. any ideas anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
I did ask for clarification on what they were looking for. No real answers were forthcoming, just that they are looking for a good solid, well rounded idea for Lexx. Anyhow, this is what was submitted, if you have any different suggestions, sing them out.
Submitted this year
Philosophy in the Dark Zone What is the nature of evil on Lexx? OR Would you toss your friend off of a moving Gondola over a lake of fire? A philosophical discussion on LEXX symbolism, religion, and ideology… Political ideas of the Cluster etc. What statements does LEXX make about the world we live in, and how we interact with others? What are the major messages of the show? Was S4 more satirical or farcical? etc.
Backstory Lexx – What happen during the insect wars. The rise and fall of the Brunen-g. How did the whole Divine Cleric thing end up taking over? Isolationist vs expansionist, and lets hear it for those
crazy heretic planets.Lexx Merchandising or lack thereof in the Dark Zone, and the Lexxian Crafters this vacuum created. So you want a Lexx Action Figure do you?
Kai vs. Stanley – Who to take home to mother - Mom thinks Kai is great to look at and the brace is handy for getting stuff off the top shelf. However Stanley is the Captain of the most powerful ship in the universe…. I know who Dad will like!
Lexx: Is it funny or just weird? In a review for the last episode TV guide criticized the show for not taking itself seriously enough. Is this a fair criticism, or an example of a mainstream critic not “getting” the show?
Lexxian Curses for Petulant Principals So you want to swear like 790? How did the lack of motion and range contribute to 790’s curses and put down. After all it is hard to emote with such a limited range. With prizes for the best original 790 curses that are still prime time playable.
Lexx Game Show (What’s my line) or Match wits with the Lexx Trivia Game
790 Poetry Contest - 🙂
Lexx: Homophobic or Homoerotic?
Who’s hotter, Xev or Zev? – A perennial favorite on the boards. 😀
Brigadoom – a reenactment

I’ll try my best to help out & still get ready for both DC & Toronto trips; I do like the last 1, since I missed it last yr. That would be cool to do; I also like many of the others as well; I’ll see what I can come up with & post it here for others to look at.
Thanks for the Lexx Panel info & am sorry there will be only 1 this yr.Your Friend,
Jhevz 😉10th June 2004 at 7:47 pm #71857AnonymousInactiveThis may be a good one…
Lust in Space: Sexuality in the Lexx universe[s].
There’s an awful lot to discuss on this topic, including: eroticism, homo and hetero. Lust and its consequences (scene by scene analysis) etc. May be too big a topic because sex and sexual desire was such a major focus of the series (it’s also a staple of horror movies, because it’s often treated as a transgression which invevitably has bad consequences — e.g. when teens are having sex in car, that’s when the axe murderer is going to break in on the fun. Wake the Dead would be a good one to look at from this angle).
If you prepare a video presentation (or slideshow) of sexy scenes — if you can legally do that — I’m sure the audience would be rapt.
Could also talk about love and lust.
Another idea, not a good one, is to discuss changing hairstyles of the Lexx crew. Kai’s bun changes, and Xev’s and Zev’s hair changes. It was a very poular discussion at lexx.com… Were the hairstyle changes simply stylistic or was it symbolism? And why did Stan always want to wear a hat even though he had a lovely full head of hair?

Let it be known that I am speaking quite seriously here, this sounds like a good idea. As many who’ve only seen the ads still view it as “geek porn” you may actually be able to dispel some Lexx myths with this as well.
11th June 2004 at 1:10 am #71875theFreyParticipantWell I shall certainly fire it off to the powers that be. But we do need to keep looking, incase they don’t like this one either…. *sigh*
The only one they half way liked was “Philosophy in the Dark Zone” the Lexx fans on the track liked it, but unfortunately it was vetoed by a non-lexxian who apparently could not see the appeal of that topic.

Or reinforce them. 😆
I was being quite serious about this topic. There are so many ways to approach it since it was an integral part of Lexx. Lust (and love) was a major character motivation used to propel the plot….
Here’s an alternate title for Sex in Lexx… Rated leXXX: From the Dark Zone to the Erogenous Zone
Could also discuss censorship issues in Lexx. I know Sci Fi edited out scenes, but had the Beans wanted to make it racier than what was filmed?
11th June 2004 at 4:46 pm #71916mysteriesoftheseaParticipantHow about a panel on encouraging unity among Lexx Fans? There are so many “divisions” and folks seeking after their own agendas,..that perhaps a little nudge towards accepting difference in our own fandom…might be a good place to start.
Or do you even think that such a discussion could take place?
Just asking,
…………..Stanelle
11th June 2004 at 5:08 pm #71918AnonymousGuestWhy use a forum for that? That’s what the webs for.

That’s a good idea kid’o, but thing is peeps don’t work that way, sad to say. It’s about who’s right, & who’s wrong. It’s the human condition. You can never make peeps agree, just put forth the argument as to why unity is needed, and good. That’s all. I would like to see all in the Lexxian world pull together, as it would maybe make for the return of maybe a movie or two. It would be grand, but chances are weak for that to happen. But it’s a good lidea you have there. I think in years to come Lexx will be revisited, maybe when I am old, and can’t remember the first show..lol. But hey, we will all enjoy it all again!! 😛 😈
12th June 2004 at 12:00 am #71934theFreyParticipantOne of the things that any Lexx forum needs to be in universal in scope. And amazingly enough, there are tons of Lexx fans at DC are not part of the cyber lexx community and would not be interested in hearing about not Lexx, but the behavior of other fans.
If one had an entire Track, then you would have space and time for off-shoot topics. But since Lexx is part of a larger track we don’t have that opportunity, especially since there is nothing new going on Lexx-wise.
13th June 2004 at 2:08 am #71975AnonymousGuestHey you could always have a *Hug -A- Lexxian” in the Hotel lobby.
13th June 2004 at 2:50 am #71976theFreyParticipantWell, people coming to the convention in good costumes get quite a lot of hugging…. often from cuvy scantily clad people who want to have their pictures take with you. 🙂 Even as old stone face Kai HDS got a bit of that…. but I immagine that other costumes like Prince got more. ;D

True, Frey,
But may be that would be a good idea; in fact, it would be cool for them to win a prize (or a necklas that I’ve made) for hugging a Lexxian. But then, it may be a cool idea to have photos of us from the other 2 yrs, for others to look at.Your Friend,

13th June 2004 at 4:57 am #71984AnonymousGuestOh that reminds me! I have LEXX T-Shirts! Need to think of a cool way for people to win them or something.
13th June 2004 at 9:08 pm #71996theFreyParticipanthummm, perhaps this would be a good thing to give as prizes for a 790 poetry contest?
I do not know why, but I do wish they had done this in a panel last year… oh well.
Perhaps people could think them up, then drop them off at various times during the day?
Ah well, we will think on it. 😀
15th June 2004 at 4:28 pm #72042mysteriesoftheseaParticipantI do believe that Lexx fans are a different type of individual,..a little more creative and a bit more willing not only to challenge what is considered…the “system,..”…accepted definition of what fans are and who they are, and how they interact with a television show and…(the most important difference!!)…more willing to change the system of things and bring about change.
I think that the folks, who constitute the Lexx fandom are more..shall we say..”interactive”..with their television show than the fans in some fandoms. Now,..if you could just come up with a way to tap into this difference between Lexx fans and fans of other television shows,…I agree with Dee,…you could seriously be talking Lexx movies or Lexx this or that.
You have said that there is an untapped Lexx fandom out there,..why not go after it? Unite the fans,..not divide them. A panel on how to unite one group of Lexx fans with another and not justify the divisions among those fans,..AND build on the new fan base could be the start of something….big and exciting.
Well, seriously, it would be better for the show to have one panel rather than none– and it sounds like only one person didn’t like the one I quoted above. I think that you should try to figure out what set that person off so that they didn’t buy the idea.
We need to retitle and repackage this idea, into one everone likes! I think it just needs a little more focus
Try resubmitting with a new title and a couple of changes.
What about “Lexx villians and heros : How can we tell the difference? What is the nature of evil on Lexx? OR Would you toss your friend off of a moving Gondola over a lake of fire?”
Something like that. Personally, I frequent the boards and get bored by fans interacting and or fighting with each other, so the scifi population at large would probably decide to take an extended coffee break during any panel that doesn’t talk about the most interesting aspects of the show. (Which makes me think that a new panel on the music and costumes would be really cool, but unless women are in charge of DC forget it!)
16th June 2004 at 10:25 pm #72067mysteriesoftheseaParticipantI am just so tired of the fighting and carrying on in some circles and……other things. I consider Lexx and its’ forums a safe place to enjoy myself in a way that is not possible for me to enjoy myself in my real life. To have division in this area makes me “insistent”..sometimes in what I think and in my expression.
To be honest with you, Lexx: Heros and Villians..sounds quite interesting!! 🙂

Yes, and as I mentioned previously this untapped group are not cyber-Lexx fans. Therefore as Lizard just re-stated, making happy between differing groups of online fans would be of no interest to them. Were there several panels, it might be considered…. but even then unless the entire track was devoted to Lexx it would be most unlikely.
On the other hand, the repackaging idea sounds most promising…. I shall have to try that. 😀

That’s sounds like a good idea, HDS,
I usually have plenty of that left over; I also have some for crafting. What’s a Kroger Bag? I’ll see you in September.Lexxian to Lexxian,
