Welp! Had a go at posting to the alt red dwarf newsgroup yesterday…. I wont do that again in a hurry!
Wadda bunch of jerks!
I guess asking for contributions for the guides is a bad thing in newsgroups nowadays.

It’s a shame really, I used to enjoy posting to the Babylon 5 groups.
However, I did pick up lots of news that I’ll be posting in the next couple of days. So maybe it all wasn’t that bad.

It used to be a geek-n-geezer haven. Now it’s full of “I’m-a-bigger-fan-than-you-are”s- very hostile. If I wanted to be hazed, I’d have joined a sorority when I had the chance. And for Dwarf fans to be elitist really pains me- the show itself is the antithesis of that kind of prejudice and exclusivity.
Sad stuff.
But on a lighter note, it was nice to see Craig Charles hosting Robot Wars and Robert Lewellyn on Junkyard Wars (even if he didn’t last very long- I still enjoyed him more than the new American host). Anyone know what the various cast members are up to now? (Other than bit-parts on Lexx)

It has the same copresenter (Cathy something?), which makes sense since she is one of the brains behind the whole thing. AFAIK there are more UK series to come and they will still be presented by Robert.
26th January 2001 at 5:16 am #58521AnonymousGuestHi, Cat.
Here in the US, the “Scrapheap…” series has been airing under the name “Junkyard Wars” from the beginning. I really got a kick out of Lewellyn, though- his facial expressions were priceless. The American replacement just doesn’t have the same energy or charm. *sigh* And yes, the female host has remained constant.
I can’t say that I like the turn the show’s taken over here- seems very put-up, anymore, with little necessary gadgets being hidden in the junkyard instead of just using what you can cobble together.
I’m not trying to out-geek you, or anything of the sort. I just happen to live in the US and have been watching Junkyard Wars since it came over. No harm or one-upsmanship intended.
peace
