And my angst is mainly caused by the lack of good software. At least the lack of good software that I own anyway.
I love a good flight sim in space. Multi coloured nubulas flashing past your cockpit window etc etc. The are the ones I know about (the bold ones I have)
Which ones have I missed ?

Well hang on to yer britches boy, there’s a game that is about to get released that will blow you away.
It’s called Star Trek: Bridge Commander, and the graphics and gameplay are amazing, it’s done by Larry Holland of X-wing fame (Totally Games), and they have have actually taken the technical layouts for the Galaxy and Sovereign class starships and recreated them perfectly.
Neat little effects like the phasers moving along their arcs before firing (ala Galaxy), and the bridge lights lowering when in red alert, plus the patented Star Trek shake when you’re hit and consoles exploding all over the place!!!
The music as well is supposed to be all orchestral and has a true cinematic feel to it.
It’s storyline has been written by Star Trek legend D.C Fontana, and has the voices of Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart.
Even if your not a Star Trek fan, this will still blow you away.
The other one to keep on the look out for is Freelancer, as this is gonna boast some nice graphics.
But if you got the money now, then I-War 2:Edge of Chaos is a real humdinger!!!, I keep thinking of how the guys who made this would do an excellent job with a Lexx game, as it’s absolutely huge.
Squishy

Im stuck on this mission on Freespace I. Eight goes at it (at about 45 kills per go) and I still can’t do it. Ah well. where’s that joystick ?
21st February 2002 at 6:09 am #61883AnonymousGuestI don’t see any mention of X-Com Interceptor, strategy and space flight sim a very good mix.
21st February 2002 at 7:01 am #61884theVodkaCircleParticipantNever played it. Who brought it out ?
21st February 2002 at 5:40 pm #61885AnonymousGuestVodka Circle. I’ve finished Freespace 1 and 2.I can help you with that mission you stuck on. Please tell me which one it is and what the primary and secondary objectives are.Is it close to the end?
22nd February 2002 at 3:40 am #61886theVodkaCircleParticipantIt’s the one where you arrive to late to save a ship from that big mother of a cap ship but then you have to defend the comms satellite. The guy from the comms centre has radioed me saying they are now in position to defend themselves, thanks for the help etc. Then more bad guys appeared so after nailing them I hung around for another 5 mins or so, no one else appeared so I jumped out of system and then got my arse kicked for abandoning the field of battle. Maybe I have to wait longer, not sure.
Thanks for the help.
tvc22nd February 2002 at 4:12 pm #61887AnonymousGuestCan you please tell me what is the name of the mission. I’m sorry it’s just that I haven’t played the game in a year. Is the capital ship the Lucifer?
23rd February 2002 at 2:42 am #61888theVodkaCircleParticipantThat’s the one, about 5 or so missions into the 2nd CD. It’s the lucifer, it fries a cap chip and jumps out and then fighters and bombers come at you from about 3 clicks away. The comms station sets up 4 gun emplacements around it. Can’t remember the name although Something like Break In Communication is ringing a bell.
Cheers23rd February 2002 at 10:59 am #61889AnonymousGuestWell here’s a walkthrough of the misssion from Gamefaqs.com.I hope this helps you in your struggle against those Shivan *******s!
A Failure to Communicate
**********
Difficulty Rating: *10 of 10* (GEEZ!)
**********Difficulty Rating with cheap trick: 1 of 10 (GEEZ!)
Briefing
Red Alert! The Beta Aquilae installation is under attack. The Lucifer
has been sighted in the area. Protect it at all costs. Additional
orders will be given to you on site.Available Ship: Valkyrie
Available Lasers: Prometheus, Avenger
Available Missile: Phoenix VObjectives
Primary Objectives
*Protect Aquilae Installation
*Defend Communications StationBonus Objectives
*Protect all four escape podsDirectives
Destroy Deva
Destroy Karna
Destroy Krishna
Destroy Asura
Destroy Rama
Destroy Bheema
Destroy ArjunaStrategy
This mission is nearly impossible to complete unless you know exactly
what to do. This strategy will be very detailed. As soon as you
arrive, put drop your shields and weapons and put up your engine power
to the max. Target the Lucifer and go toward it. Order your wingmen
to attack it. Two Dragons, Deva wing will arrive from the Lucifer’s
fighter bay. Order all fighters to attack one of the Dragons, take out
the other yourself. Use your Phoenix V missiles to do the job. When
you have destroyed one of the Dragons, attack the other Dragon if it is
not already dead. If any of the Escape Pods are destroyed, restart the
mission. Head toward Escape 4 and order your wingmen to protect it.
Pretty soon Karna wing will jump in. Order your wingmen to engage
enemy while you help out. Once Karna is no more, head back to Escape
4. Krishna will be your next foe. Destroy them quickly. That was the
hard part. Now quickly head toward the Communications Terminal. Order
your wingmen to guard it. Asura and Rama will jump in and attack the
Terminal. Destroy them quickly. Once they are down, order your
wingmen to cover you. Keep attacking the waves as they come. Before
you know it, the Hope will be in position to guard the Terminal.
Mission complete! If you don’t save all the escape pods, don’t worry. I can’t save them
all on the medium difficulty. You don’t get anything special for
saving them all except a bonus objective.*************
*CHEAP TRICK*
*************Let one member of Krishna wing survive. Tell your wingmen to ignore
it. The other wings will not arrive until all of Krishna is toast.
Wait until the Hope reaches its waypoints and then kill it. Mission
complete!Debriefing
There was nothing you could do to preserve the Aquilae. There was too
little time and the Lucifer is too powerful.Protecting all the escape pods is most impressive. The survivors thank
you and hope we can avenge the destruction of the Aquilae.By protecting the Beta Aquilae Communications Terminal we are able to
keep in contact with out forces in the outer systems. Losing the
communications terminal would have been a severe blow. Well done
pilot.***********************************************************************
