4th September 2003 at 10:49 pm #39444Anonymous InactiveHi, just a little survey… 🙂 What are your ten (or more, or less ;)) favourite sci-fi shows? Please list in order of your preference (10 -1 scale). Note: if some shows hold the same value to you, you can rank them the same. E.g. at number 2: Galactica 1980 and Enterprise. Thanks. 😀 Edited to include least favourite shows (10-1 scale) and reedited for excessive typos. So your favourite and least favourite show will get 10 points; second favourite and least favourite 9 points etc. for easy calculation. And rememeber, this survey is hardly definitive or scientific, so… 4th September 2003 at 11:29 pm #68017Fatguy Participant1. Lost In Space.

Of course I could have done this any number of ways… So Babylon 5 is the most popular using this method (I may have made some mistakes here): Babylon 5 (62 points)

10. Space 1999Very honourable mention goes to: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Red Dwarf, The Day of the Triffids, Cold Lazarus, Lost In Space, Babylon 5, V, X Files, and a whole lot more. Really, my list is kind of arbitrary, the honourable mentions could it into my top ten easily and the order could be played around with considerably. BTW, I remember AutoMan, and Manimal unfortunately. 😉 Though it did give us one of televison’s most memorable lines: “I am not an animal, I am a free Manimal!” Oh, and I’ll say it here, welcome to the forums DaveCole, Sidhecafe, and IblisGinjo. 😀 7th September 2003 at 10:36 pm #68086ShadowedVenus Participantok 1. 8. ghormenghast (a miniseries)
9. Lexx
10. Star Trek; the Next Generation/Twin PeaksSo I have three miniseries of great genius, and am I the only one who thinks a second series of Ultraviolet should have been made?
Both No. 1s, the Prisoner and Blake’s 7 have FANTASTIC finales, surreal, beautiful, completely unexpected or just gorgeously tragic, and sadly i have included 2 members of the Star Trek franchise, though the 10th is mainly for Picard/Data, and DS9 because it was genuinely funny and at least tried to be complex rather than just relocating 50s Westerns to space.8th September 2003 at 9:32 am #68103pet Participant
I’ve given your number one choice 10 points, your second choice 9 points down to one for your tenth favourite show and added up the points for each show from your lists (with the help of Excel — really it took very little time). I had no idea…. I think the one I read was “Slaves of Gor” all about earth women kidnapped to become sex slaves…. 😈
That was back in high school. Any one else read that????
And who did the mini series? When?8th September 2003 at 7:05 pm #68108Anonymous InactiveI read quite a few of the Gor (counterearth) novels when I inherited them from my Grandfather, but I gave up in the end because they just got worse and worse. 8th September 2003 at 7:52 pm #68109Sidhecafe ParticipantMy friend and I used to read Slaves of Gor outloud to each other and laugh! It was like the Story of O just pulp scifi!!!! couldn’t help but love it for the sheer schlock value!!! Like Samuel Delaney without any of the philsophical discourse at worse case scenario. The Top Ten List is like a history of the tv shows I grew up with!!! Nice to see some shows that even forget about alot! 8th September 2003 at 8:20 pm #68110Anonymous InactiveI’ve also read the Gor books, kinda bad but enjoyable. Was wondering if anyone else would remember those. Monkey business… Actually, First Born as a BBC made show only in three 45 minute parts about a human-gorilla hybrid who is raised by the scientist who created him — he doesn’t realise that he’s half ape (shoulda guessed with a name like Gor). You could say it’s part soap opera too, he has a fling with his human half-sister (not realising that she is a blood relative — they were raised in the same family) who gets pregnant. I found the story very moving. Was based on a novel called Gor’s Saga. Anyway, here’s the updated list (wish I’d originally alpahabetised it in descending order): Babylon 5 (72 points)

Gor’s Saga, it does sound interesting. who wrote the book do you rememeber?
Yeah, what a shame! 🙁 😉 If it had been about that, then it would have definitely topped my list! 😀 I haven’t read it to tell you the truth, but the author is Maureen Duffy — had to look it up and came across an interesting webpage on genetic engineering (including GE in sci-fi) which very briefly mentions the book and show (CLICK!) 8th September 2003 at 8:59 pm #68113Sidhecafe ParticipantThanks for that, I will read that later when I’m not at work. 😯 😀
it actually has some baring on a story I’m trying to work on presently.I know I Planet Gor series, I picture something like Conan The Destroyer! ❗ 8th September 2003 at 10:08 pm #68114Anonymous InactiveThe books were written by John Norman (I counted nine under a thick blanket of dust on my top cupboard) I seem to remember once seeing a scary website about the philosophy of Counterearth. 12th March 2004 at 6:23 pm #70288Anonymous InactiveRather than starting a new thread: What are your 10 least favourite sci-fi shows? And if you haven’t included your ten favourites, please do so. So your favourite and least favourite show will get 10 points; second favourite and second least favourite 9 points… etc. for easy calculation. 12th March 2004 at 11:47 pm #70298bambooshoot ParticipantFavourite Sci-Fi has to be: 1) Babylon 5

3) Andromeda
4) Space PrecinctDon’t know how many of these count as sci fi and I can’t think of any more! May edit later if I think of some! Thought it might be fun to cross-reference, and I’ll find that link to the old TV sci-fi poll off the front page later. So, I’m finally getting around to updating the Sad favourites list with the later, yet still old, submissions… (minus Shrapnel_Jack’s cause I’m not totally sure if that list runs best (10) to worst of the best (1), or worst to best). Not really enough responses yet to warrant tallying up the worst of sci-fi TV, methinks. Babylon 5 (87 points)

Star Treks (any except Voyager) 1 (including Enterprise)Kinda disappointed that The Invaders didn’t do better. I imagine that considering the critical and popular success of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica and the new series[s] of Doctor Who there would be significant changes if I were to start it all-over. And I’d like to nominate Charlie Jade. Been some very good sci-fi of late, I think. 18th January 2006 at 9:40 pm #75982kokopelli ParticipantFavourites
