KeymasterThe SciFi Channel has recently announced that a new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ production is being produced. The new production is said to be a remake of the seventies TV show, and is to be headed by former ‘Roswell’ writer Ronald Moore.
This news surprised and shocked most ‘Battlestar Galactica’ fans, since another project had already been announced last year, to be headed by X-Men producers Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto.
Bryan Singer eventually left the production team last November, but Tom DeSanto had kept pushing for the return of ‘Galactica’. Now, without any warning, he seems to have been taken off the project by Vivendi/Universal.
The fans are particularly aghast since DeSanto was reputed for listening to the fanbase of the show, and wanting to do a sequel of the original series with at least some of the original cast back, along with younger actors, and keeping faithful to the spirit and themes of the original 1978-1979 ‘Battlestar Galactica’.
Ronald Moore’s project, on the other hand, has been announced to be a remake of the show, without the participation of the original actors, and likely with substantial changes to the look and themes of the show.About Tom DeSanto’s plans for the new ‘Galactica’ show you can read:

BsG was classic, where else can you see “Face” from the A-team play around with a pulse pistol? HAHAHA. Oh man BsG was a great show that captured the essense of J.T. Kirk acting with plots worthy of any “Days of our Lives” or “General Hospital” for our British friends think of “Steps” or perhaps “east-enders”Hehe, glad to see a new face posting about a worthy subject. Most of us around here knew that when Universal/Vivendi bought up Sci-Fi USA there would be changes… and voila.

I detect a hint of sarcasm in that last post, the reason I say that is because you compare BSG to Eastenders and Steps.
OK, two things you should know:
A: Steps have now split (hurrah!!!), which means one less manufactured band we have to put up with, also they were the laughing stock of Brit music.Lisa Scott-Lee was the only one I felt sorry for, as she is a real stunner.
Now we just have to see the back of Get-a-Life (Westlife) and the idiots who won the idiot Popstar programme (actually I think they have split as well…double hurrah!!!) and the idiot PopIdol, and Brit music might be able to stand proud again.
B: Eastenders and Coronation St are the most depressing, poorly acted garbage that is forced upon us. For some reason, these two are the staple diet of the Brit viewing public, but they are a true reflection of how cheap Brit terrestrial T.V is (thank-god for Sky). What’s even more laughable is that the people who star in them actually think they are superstars, but if they went to Hollywood they would get laughed out of town.
Brit terrestrial T.V is so predictable, every night it’s :News, gardening or DIY programme (yawn), a soap (Eastenders or Coronation street..both as crap as each other), boring and not in the slightest funny sitcom, a Nature programme, an uninteresting drama, more news, a film from the 50’s or 60’s (once every month you might see one that is made in the last 15 yesrs), more news,a send you to sleep political programme and then more news. This is the same recipe every night, in fact after getting Sky almost ten years ago, I have never switched back to the BBC (British Boring Company) or ITV (Idiot Television Corporation, and in those fifteen years nothing has changed.
Anyway, to compare Steps and Eastenders is an insult to BSG, actually it’s an insult to almost everything!!!Squishy

GuestLol Squishy you should see USA daytime “Soaps” Unfortunatly I was subjected to quite a bit of both those shows during my sojourn on your lovely island. Im glad I caught the theatre while I was there or I would’ve had to re-evaluate British art
One show I did love on BBC2 was League of Gentleman. It was also on the radio, but I get confused at the radio channels, maybe Radio4? In any event its a must listen/see for any Lexx fan

I was initially very excited to hear that my favorite TV show of all time, Battlestar Galactica, will be coming back as a mini-series on the SciFi Channel in the United States; however, after reading the recent comments on re-imagining and basically remaking the series from scratch, my enthusiasm for the project has cooled tremendously.
Like most fans that I know of Battlestar Galactica,I want to see a continuation of the original series about twenty to thirty story years after the end of the original series, completely ignoring the non-
events of the knock-off Galactica 1980. The concept of the original show was great, the villains were cool, and the characters as portrayed by the original actors and actresses were wonderful. Some of the writing was very weak, but even after those particular episodes, I always went away looking forward to more. Now, with the new mini-series going into production soon, there is a great opportunity to make the original into a franchise that can be carried on for years to come. Revitalizing and updating is to be expected, but re-imagining the show by changing the basic premises will do little to endear the show to existing fans and the negative publicity that such an effort generates may drive away potential new fans as well.I have three suggestions for the new production: hold true to the concepts and ideas of the original series, maintain high quality scripts, and bring back the original major characters to help balance the cast with the younger actors and actresses that seem to be slated for the new show. I encourage you, your friends, and your readers to let SciFi know of your interest in the show, and encourage SciFi and their production company adopt these three suggestions.
Battlestar Galactica fans around the world appreciate your help in defending our show.
Sincerely,
Tony Fagan

Actually you’re lucky, you get the rubbish soaps in the daytime, our’s is put in a primetime slot in the evening…so again I say ‘thank-god for Sky’.One show I did love on BBC2 was League of Gentleman. Never actually seen it, but have heard it’s off the wall comedy, but the BBC does every once in a while do something that is good, like Red Dwarf or Blackadder…but it’s rare.
When you see them put programmes like Buffy on at 6.25pm on their second and least watched channel, then you get a pretty good idea of the morons who run these T.V stations.
And then you get the ones who say ‘But Coronation St is the most watched T.V programme’, and they actually beleive that it’s popularity is better in the world than say ‘Friends’.
Obviously most who watch this a:can’t or won’t pay for Sky, b:the old gits that have been brainwashed into watching this rubbish because their has been nothing else before Sky, and c: those who just turn on the T.V but are not paying any real attention.
I always believe you should stick to what you’re good at, America makes some excellent programmes, the Brits are so god-damn awful and I just wish they would either concentrate on making more series like Blackadder or Red Dwarf, or just don’t bother at all.

GuestIf you have already signed the petitions, thank you. If not, you can find them at www.battlestargalactica.com.
We’re asking everyone to contact Universal, also the SciFi Channel with messages of support for the original actors, concept, etc.
At this point it looks like they’ll be remaking the origin – starting from scratch – with the emphasis on a young couple. The older people may be looked upon in a ghastly way. Please send email and hit message boards.
Also, come visit us at 3dgladiators.com. Check on Premier, the Colonial Fleets. That will take you to the BSg Forums, both Artwork and Discussion.
Thanks for you help.
