I just bought both the S2V1 & S2V2 DVD’s last night and the first one plays the episodes fine but has problems with a couple of the extra’s like when the Rated Lexx thing ends it won’t go back to the menu and I have to physically shut the player off to get it to reset and during one of the other extra’s it was skipping like crazy.
I cleaned the DVD and that didn’t solve the problem. Did anyone else have any problems with the S2V1 DVD playing correctly?

It may just be a defective disc, or it could be a compatibility issue. I’ve played the discs on at least 4 different models of DVD players, and there hasn’t been a compatibility issue yet (and I haven’t heard any reports of problems).
You may want to take it back and exchange it for another copy, or try it on another machine (if you know anyone with a DVD player).
If there are any problems in returning it, etc., email me at my work address, abennett@acornmedia.com. I’ll try and help any way I can.–Aleck
25th July 2001 at 6:52 am #47530AnonymousGuestThanks Aleck, I’m going to exchange it for a new copy at the store I bought the disk at. I just kind of thought I remembered someone saying that there WAS a problem with the first DVD but I wasn’t sure of that so I thought I would ask the group for feedback.

I’ve been trying to keep up on compatibility problems (especially since I’ve purchased 2 DVDs lately that won’t play on my home machine), and we’ve had a fairly successful run so far. Some of Acorn’s earlier titles had issues with certain players, but since we changed replicators and authoring centers, we haven’t heard about anything. I’d like to believe that it isn’t a compatibility issue, since you haven’t said that the second disc had any problems, and they were both done by the same people. But, as I said, if you have any problems with the new disc, don’t hesitate to email me and let me know.

25th July 2001 at 11:30 am #47532AnonymousGuestIt may be a DVD player issue. Some of the cheaper ones still don’t do a good job with multi-layered disks and stuff like that.
What kind of DVD player do you have, darkwillow?
26th July 2001 at 6:12 am #47533AnonymousGuestIt is a JVC Model # XV-M567GD and It has not had any problems playing anything else including the S2V2 disk and all the Dark Zone movie DVD and it even plays my VCD’s of Beast Wars I ordered from Singapore.

I was thinking it might have something to do with reading the dual layers cause some of the lower end models still do and some older, particulary first generation DVD players, had some problems with that kinda stuff.
I had a first generation Mitsubishi and it wouldn’t play the special features side of my Spawn: Special Edition DVD. At first I thought it was the DVD cause it did the same thing in the floor model player. Then we stuck it in the Sony neXt to it and it worked. They let me trade the Mitsubishi in for my faithful and long lasting Sony that I still have to this day
Well, I hope you get it all sorted out. Btw, know where I can get the original Gatchaman, I don’t want Battle of the Planets, series on DVD that will play on a region 1 player?
