Well, it’s coming along nicely. We’re up against a major deadline, and making it by the skins of our teeth, but the initial test DVD-Rs have been approved, the test pressings should be happening any minute now, and everything looks hunky-dory so far.
Just so you know, the first US Season 3 DVD and VHS release (containing the first 4 episodes) is coming out on 3/26. So far, I’ve seen the supplements and menus on an abridged test DVD-R, and they look great. The menus have some great animation, and flow nicely. We start on the surface of Water, from a moth’s POV, past Gametown with a gondola approaching, and into space between the two planets. It takes about 10-11 seconds, but it’s nice, and if it seems a bit too long, you can fast forward through the animation stuff to the menus proper (and I’ve seen a number of menus that take longer to get through). The Special Features menu takes you along the surface of Fire to the menu options. They’re both done very well. Andrew at Salter Digital/Post Production has outdone himself. Nice stuff. The supplements aren’t quite as in-depth as previous. What I’m really missing is an interview. Unfortunately, when the supplements were being assembled, everyone was either wrapped up in post-production or in Asia, so nothing could be scheduled. What we do have are: the first segment of the Season 3 “making of” special, storyboards, location and production photos, cast and character bios (updated from the S2 releases) and trivia. We’re working on assembling more stuff right now, so hopefully, some more interesting stuff should come down the pike. The VHS release (coming out concurrently with the DVD) will feature the behind-the-scenes footage as well. Both will contain the first 4 episodes of Season 3, and the subsequent volumes (available on the last Tuesday of every other month) will contain 3 episodes each (all 4 S3 releases will be available for the suggested retail price of $24.95 on DVD, which means the online prices will be substantially lower than previous). At any rate, they look good so far, and I’m happy with ’em for the most part.

Just so no one gets confused, the Lexx – Season 2, Volume 5 DVD will be released 29 January 2002. I think I got that date right, Alex?

Sounds great, it was suggested a while ago if there could be an option to watch all the episodes back to back, w/o going back to the menu. Is that feasible? I can’t wait for s3, imo it’s their best season.

A while ago you mentioned that there was somethign special in s2v5, but htat you couldn’t mention it at that time. Any cahnces of a spoiler? {I’ll try to find the original post}

You know, I brought that up with The Powers That Be, and they all thought it was a great idea, and I thought it was mentioned to Andrew at Salter to be part of the disc, and put it out of my mind. Then, when we started getting menu screen images, I’d forgotten about it. When we got the DVD-R, and I was testing out the programming, I realized that it’d not been put in as a feature on this disc. So no, not on this one. I’ll bring it up for the next disc (as one of the concerns mentioned when I first proposed it was “who’d sit there for 4 hours?” — well, me, probably — I think that since the remaining 3 discs are 3 eps per, there’d be more enthusiasm about the idea).

Oh, poop. I forgot all about saying that. At the time, S3 wasn’t announced, so I couldn’t mention that there was going to be a trailer for the 3rd season on S2V5. That’s all it is. It was put together, I think, as a promotional tool for cable stations. It’s just clips of episodes. It’s nicely done, nicely edited, but nothing too spectacular. I meant to reveal its presence as the confirmation that we’d be doing S3 and forgot. So much for my attempt at dramatics.

The bird’s the word. Papa-oo-mow-mow.

Really, though, since word is that they’ve been saving outtakes, etc. for S4 DVDs, I’d think that, barring catastrophic events, they’ll be coming along eventually. I can’t say *when*, and I can’t really officially say that they *will* come out. But next year is a good bet (I wish it was the end of this year, but Q4 is completely filled with a million and a half hours of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas that I have to wade through…I mean, it’s not like I hate G&S or anything, but we’re talking 10 full productions…needless to say, it’s going to be pretty dang time-consuming, and I’m going to be wandering around the hallways here singing the entire “Mikado” before it’s over with).

If you haven’t seen it already, check out the movie, Topsy-turvy. It’s all about Gilbert & Sullivan and the first performance of the Mikado.

Great! I have been waiting a long time for Season3 to be released as DVD, but what about the second DVD (3.2)?
Will that include 4 episodes or will there be less, like with the VHS version. Do you have any ideas on how many DVD’s there will be from the third season?

Thanks for the update Aleck!!

As for the “Play-All” option, I love that on my AbFab discs That’d be great for S3

Um, I received my copy of S2V5 back in December – why is everyone still waiting? Bought it from videoflicks.com for US$20

That’s odd, as it hasn’t been released on DVD in the US or Canada as of yet (the two markets that Videoflicks serves). It’s not due out on the Koch Canada label until 2/19. Koch did release their S2V4 DVD in December, but as a rule, all of their releases are either simultaneous with Acorn’s or behind them. They did change the cover art on a couple of releases, which may be causing some confusion. I know that Videoflicks is taking orders for it now, but unless Videoflicks somehow got their hands on a REALLY early shipment, over a month in advance, S2V5 is not out yet and these are just pre-orders.

It’s true Aleck. My friend lives in Canada so orders his through Videoflicks as well and he got his before Christmas You can order it to the US as well but I always use Amazon.

Heres a link http://www.videoflicks.com/titles/1112/1112052.htm

It’s currently in stock

Sorry about the delay in answering, Theli. Being in Sweden, you’re probably thinking about UK Season 3 releases. The VHS tapes are already out in the UK, but they haven’t done the DVDs yet. If you’re thinking about the US releases (NTSC video output), there will be 4 DVDs total, with 3 episodes on each DVD after the first one (I mention that in the middle of the first post in this thread). They’ll come out on the last Tuesday of every other month after the first release (or thereabouts).

Aleck is there any chance of a Lexx box set being released but I realize that may not be possible because you seem to be makeing this one at a time. But maybe at some point in the near future you could re-release them in box sets.

Oh yeah and also I know this all has to do with those annoying copyright laws. But I would really like to see Acorn do the Lexx movies as opposed to the s**ty job Kotch did.

the most annoying DVD menu is the one on What Lies Beneath where you go through a lengthy series of clips before first entering the menu and then again *every time you return to the main menu!*

I hope there is some way to release the movies into the US. I would to be able to get them here instead of paying a crapload of money for them online

Well I know for a fact that you can get all the movies on Amazon.com or Ebay for not to much money. Yeah but as I wrote above I would like to see the movies released by some one who can do a better job.

Aleck, is there something going on with the S2V5 DVD? When I heard that it was available earlier in this thread, I instantly ordered a copy. I finally received it in the mail along with a really crappy “mousepad”. I immediatly noticed that it was a Koch disc and not Acorn. What gives? What’s the difference between the S2V5 Koch and Acorn versions? Now I’m wondering if I should get the Acorn version…

Sheesh.

Man, it’s nuts. I don’t know what the deal is with Videoflicks. They assured us that they’d be sourcing our product from Baker & Taylor (a US distribution firm) for their US-based orders rather than selling the Koch Canada product to US buyers (Videoflicks.com is a Canadian company, and since Acorn has exclusive US distribution rights to the series, they aren’t supposed to be selling the Koch versions to US customers). Now, not only are they selling the Koch discs approximately 2 months prior to their street date (they were most likely sent out exceptionally early dut to end-of-year inventory procedures), they’re violating contractual territorial rights as well. Nice buncha guys, these.

As always, the Koch discs are pretty much identical to the Acorn product. The only difference is in the legalese on the packaging, and in the cover art. Initially, one of Koch’s primary customers said that the cover image of Kai we’d chosen for S2V3 was “creepy” and asked that Xev be on each cover. They did so at first, kept the V4 cover that we developed, and then used the V3 cover as their V5 cover (using the artwork we came up with for our sell sheets as their V3 cover art). If you’ve already gotten the Koch version, you’re not missing anything except a different cover (and maybe the “Acorn Media” logo at the top of the program).

Needless to say, this is all very annoying.

No, no one’s gonna get sued. There’s nothing that Acorn can do, since it’s not our product that they’re doing anything with. Since it’s their handling of the Koch product that’s negatively affecting our sales, all we can do is go to Koch and tell them what Videoflicks is doing, and let them pursue the matter.

The S2V5 cover is supposed to have another picture of Xev on it.
