KeymasterOver in the SadTV forum, Sad identified three types of scifi fan: Manic Academic, Normal SciFi Fan, and Gamer. (Mbedd threw in Pedantics and Tekkies) What type of fan would you say you are?(see defs below; hope ya don’t mind my quotin’ ya, Sad ):
“A ‘Manic Academic’ scary person that gets soooooo into it that they just HAVE to wear the costume and hairstyle of their fave character.
A normal sci fi fan that likes the show and the science but doesn’t get too hung up about it (also sometimes watches for the wrong reasons – eg, appreciation of Xev/Kai’s bum)
A Gamer type, who likes sci fi, is not fanatical about it but does get annoyed when the silly writers make up science just to fit the story, ‘and it’s not a ‘killer flying frizzbee’, it’s an ‘airborn intruder attack vehicle’.”

GuestEep! I forgot to put my type! I guess I swim somewhere between gamer and normal. I’m not bright enough to be pedantic. and too cynical to be manic; a normal gamer???
Hah! Shallow? Well, until I started watching Lexx, I always thought I watched for all the right reasons. Then, came Kai. Make that, shallow times two. ——————

ParticipantI think that I fall in between normal and gamer. I do tend to be shallow sometimes. I’ve seen a few episodes of Farscape that weren’t exactly the best ones, but I watched them more than once just to see Ben Browder.

“First you wanna kill me, now you wanna kiss me, blow” – Ash from Army of Darkness
“Darling, you idiot!” – Lum from Urusei Yatsura

Not at all!
I’m definately the middle of the road. The science can be completely screwy (understandable, farefetched or just plain ludicrous), but if the characters aren’t fun and I’m sorry to say, attractive, then I lose interest.
Shallow huh?

GuestI think I fall between Gamer and Manic Academic. The closest I’d get to a costume is a Tom Baker-era Dr. Who scarf, but do I get a bit testy when science suffers and becomes nothing but a cushion for a pithy plot. *hmpf!* I suppose I am a pretty sad case, though- I don’t watch Lexx for a glimpse of ANYone’s bums…

GuestCan’t I just be a gamer (a REAL gamer with books and dice none of this new-fangled computer stuff!) who happens to stay up until 3 am to watch Lexx and complain when they bunt Farscape off to make room for cricket?
Speaking of Tom Baker, did anyone recongise him in the D&D movie?
