WoW! How great is this!? Thank you Sad…you are awesome.
I am hoping that the ever talented Jacha will, as the senior Lexxian, spearhead the 2001 Hali Uncon efforts and allow me the opportunity to act as trusy assistant/schlepp-gal.
First a decision MUST be make on whether Uncon will happen in June or September. There are pros and cons for either month…so I guess it boils down to which one is workable for the most people who would like to attend and which month will better allow us access to the Studio.
Now is the time to state an oppinion either way. Who is interested in attending? Wich month do you feel is more workable?
Sad, if you or Cat could contact your friends at Salter and inquire as to which month is better for them…perhaps the decision will rest there. I for one would be very gratefull.
Looking forward to meeting everyone in Hali!

I vote for the first week of June and hope it works out for others as well. I would really like to have the opportunity to actually get up close to Lexx, the makers and the actors. I am hoping for the best.

I don’t remember any UnCon. sites’ urls but, since I had planned on vacationing in Hali again this year, I’ve been researching accommodations in the area. Here are One, Two, and Three sites I’ve saved in my searchings. That Barrington and Waverly look pretty good, but I’d imagine those who have actually gone before would know the real ins and outs of the area.

Wow, a lotta UnCon/LexxCon sites out there! But, DrDel’s is the only one I’ve seen, so far, that has places to stay mentioned. Plus, I should add, it’s damn fine reading and mighty purty, too!

And much gratitude to you for taking this on!I plan on attending again this year, and while any date would work for me, I think someone else mentioned that Dalhousie University (where many UnConners, including myself, stayed) would not be available in September. The accomodations were very reasonable, and Sheriff Hall, where I stayed, was very comfortable (though it is *not* within walking distance of downtown. Not comfortably if you’ve had a few, anyway)
If you need another schlepp-gal (I love that!), I’d also be happy to run things down. I don’t know if anyone is into hostelling, but there’s one close to the Waverly Inn that seems reasonable. It’s the Heritage House[/url].

If I had to pick one month it would be Septemebr. The weather I think would still be good but if the UnCon was going to be only one month – I would have to find a way to be there in June. Work vacation thingie…

If the UnCon is scheduled for the weekend of June 2/3, I might be able to make it. Otherwise, I have to vote for September.
In any case, I don’t see the point in having the UnCon in Halifax while Lexx is on hiatus (August). We could just as easily meet other fans in more accessible places, if that were the case.

Dgreequeen has a good point. I want to go to Halifax, but if the studio is not going to be open, there are places we can meet that are easier to get to.
I’m hoping Uncon can be coordinated with one of the group studio tours Salter Street had mentioned.

)I did throw out some of the dates in question…and althought it is not her decision what Salter does…she was NOT discouraging regarding a 16th or 23th June date. I think we will have an answer from Salter soon. Renee was very sympathetic to our need for making accommodation arrangement in a timely manner. I was very encouraged by her friendly demeanor and willingness to help us have a VERY LEXXY UnCon.
I am leaning toward the latest possible June date in hopes of accomodating those Lexxians that have school schedule conflicts will be free and clear by then.

Either June or September would be fine for me. My husband just started a new job and his company drives to Canada. I half-jokingly said maybe I could hitch a ride with one of the eighteen wheelers. He just laughed. I’ll probably come by bus… But if anybody sees a tractor-trailer coming down the street with a woman hanging out the window shouting “Long Live Lexx” that would be me.

june 23 or 16 okay by me but 23 would be better as my graduation dinner in nyc on the 15th would mandate all night drive to halifax…how long do these things last usually? if it goes into the week i would have to change my vacation around

I spent most of last night looking up info on Halifax and things to do and see there…Hali is a very interesting city with loads of history so we should have a wonderful time!
Jacha and I discussed a rough schedule for the 23rd date…provided the 23rd works for Salter it appears that is the date that works for the most people. As soon as we have clear confirmation from Salter…we can complete it and post.

I just checked air fares from my home for the weekends of the June 16th and 23rd.
The fares are about $100 more the weekend of the 23rd. $426.46 for the 16th vs $516.86 for the 23rd.
What I did find that may help others is that if I make the 2 hour drive from Columbus to Cleveland and then fly, the fares are $263.49 for either weekend. This strategy may only work for a few Lexxians – I happen to be within three hours (or less) drive of several airports. Nothing beats selection.

Delighted to see things are underway. Sadly, I won’t be able to attend any UnCon this year, as the summer is totally out for me. One word of advice though, if you are going to use the University dorms…Jacha, I think you have to contact the Dalhousie Conference Booking offices first to get a block number of rooms? Also, when it comes to booking the rooms individually, make sure you double check with the Hall of Residence as well that they have actually received the booking. I turned up last year and found a room had not been reserved for me at all, even though I had phoned twice and paid the deposit in cash!!! But the receptionist was very helpful though and I didn’t end up having to move accross town…heheheh!!

A friend of mine is planning to go to Hali later in the year on business, and he quoted and expample of a return for TWO adults came to about £600 in October, including tax and insurance, and if you book accomodation with that, you can get some good discounts as well. You can check on the site for airfares ( Gatwick ) and they do flights from other airports in the UK as well. I have checked the site and it seems to be worth checking out.

June? Hrm…. I don’t know if I can make it. Depends… on hubbie, whether I can get vacation… and how much it’s gonna cost me for seasonal flying. The big question (as I see it anyway) is the same question we have had all along…what is good for Salter? I have a feeling that their buy-out may have some effect on this. I will call Renee tomorrow and see what I can find out. Also, Cat, you are in the know about everything …have you heard anything else?

There’s a multicultural festival in hali that weekend too..whether this will affect our being able to get accommodation I haven’t been able to discover yet..but we’ll see…
