The keys true nature related to the soul?

I have a feeling that the key may be alive, or at least is some sort of intelligence. The Key may well be Lexx’s master, and it’s not actually responding to Stan, but the key, Stan may be the one who issues the command, but it could be the key that is instructing the Lexx to proceed with the command, and Stan is just the conduit.
It’s seems likely that the key needs to survive in a host, and share’s a symbiotic relationship with it’s host.
Here’s another off the wall idea, maybe the key is actually insect essence that has only one function, to control the Lexx. It could have even been a small part of HDS’s essence, and that he had the ability to control the Lexx because the Key was always within him…but that’s just wild speculation, so please don’t read too much into it.
I wish I could have a key like that inside me, as I’m forever losing my front door keys.!!!
