KeymasterI got to thinking about this question and came up with an interesting possibility. I wonder if the key isn’t kind of like the soul. I mean think about the soul only leaves the body for two reasons. Either the body dies or some how you are able to transverse you self coincidently. Now these two reasons also applies to the key. It leaves the body as a result of near death or free will. Granted its never been established the key is in fact “alive” but a few times Stan, Xev, and Kai have acted as though it were. The key being a soul actually sort of makes sense since the Lexx can not really function to carry out its intended purpose in life with out it. Well any way its an interesting thing to think about as everything in the Lexx universe is.

GuestI have a feeling that the key may be alive, or at least is some sort of intelligence. The Key may well be Lexx’s master, and it’s not actually responding to Stan, but the key, Stan may be the one who issues the command, but it could be the key that is instructing the Lexx to proceed with the command, and Stan is just the conduit.
It’s seems likely that the key needs to survive in a host, and share’s a symbiotic relationship with it’s host.
Here’s another off the wall idea, maybe the key is actually insect essence that has only one function, to control the Lexx. It could have even been a small part of HDS’s essence, and that he had the ability to control the Lexx because the Key was always within him…but that’s just wild speculation, so please don’t read too much into it.
I wish I could have a key like that inside me, as I’m forever losing my front door keys.!!!

InactiveI think the key has been called a ‘living thing’.
In Terminal the Dr called it a beam of energy in her arm, while in the Key Prince(Xev) determines, with the help of 790 and Kai, that it is located in the Medulla Sexuala of the brain.

No Squish its not that off the wall and infact I hadn’t even thought of that. However I would buy that except for the fact two Ericons were able to make another key. But its also very possible they simply copied the
original key that might have been derived from the insect essence. I doubt they would be able to tell the difference between human and insect essence if they did copy the original key. But anyway Squish thats a damn good theory.-SM

I should really pay attention next time I’m watching IWHS, I never caught the thing about the Ericons, it must be the adrenalin rush I keep getting when watching Lexx!!!
What are the Ericons anyway, are they non-human aliens (probably not likely, as I’ve never seen a non-human alien in Lexx) or some type of bio-vizier?
The theory I proposed made me think of something else, why would the Lexx respond to a human, would it not be more likely that he would respond to another insect???…if so then the key could be insect essence after all, thus proving that I’m not as mad as I first thought!!!

The two Ericons were human bio specialists who worked on the Cluster but were from the planet Erico. According to Thodin it was an over heated rock with millions of people that was destroyed by His Divine Shadow. Yeah so they were very human and good guys to which you hardly find on the Cluster. Especially when working them most powerfull weapon of destruction ever built.
