Sadgeezer.com is being re-vamped as we speak. This has been going on for months and I’m currently reviewing my 4th installation of portal software. The hope is that it is interesting and entertaining to the visitors and users of SadBOARD. The next sadgeezer.com will be centered around the board plus will have lots of new features useful to sci fi sadgeezers like us.
The fact is, that sadgeezers are commonplace on the net. You can see them set up boards and websites all the time and some of them (like me) are lucky enough to recognise that the most fun in being a webmaster can be helping to develop a community that has the same interests as you.
Sure, sadgeezer.com is a labour of love and it takes up a lot of time and expence, but it’s the best hobby I, Newkate (and many of the moderators) have had! I met my wife through the site and loads of sadgeezers came to the wedding! (http://www.fawl.net/wedding/pictures.htm) I have close friendships with peeps that I’ve met on this board and am continually amazed at how cool people are. I don’t seem to find that on other boards.
However, is it wasn’t for the people at lexx.com, this site (never mind the board) wouldn’t exist! Splarka and Rachel are minor deities as far as I am concerned and I can only ever be praisworthy of their efforts (especially to the general lexx community). Splarka was an inspiration for sadgeezer.com and provided a huge amount of encouragement when the site was in it’s infancy. Rachel has helped with sadchats and other stuff and is a genuine computer genius.
BUT! The heaviest, funniest, meatiest, most kick-ass posts I’vce seen have been placed here! Some of this stuff is bloody amazing! Even the troll posts have a sadgeezery class about them. There are people on this board who are very outspoken and intimidating as hell. Others who post on the board in the hope that their favourite star will see their message (the lovely Ana [img]images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img] in the Andromeda forum for example). There is always something cool to read and [b][i]that[/i][/b] my friends, is all down to you! This site isn’t [i]owned[/i] by me – it’s all down to you lot. For me it’s the epitomy of BBS, being in a room with lots of like minded people. There are some that you NEVER would pick and argument with (Aleck, Darlek even Bonnee and others), there are some that you would never pick a fight with, Frey, FX, Cat (because no-body is that crazy) and there are people like Flame, Mary, Sloppy … good grief, the list is endless, who are also a blast to be around.
If I don’t visit the board at least once a day it makes me cranky!
There are 3500 visitors a day to sadgeezer.com and that number will increase dramatically as the new site is installed and registered (with the search engines). The fact is though, that the board is in great shape and easily able to handle it.
The only problem with it, is the fact that we have 5 times the number of lurkers than posters. I sometimes worry that the SadBOARD is a little too intimidating for newbies. All I can say to them is that there are many of us who don’t consider ourselves expert in sci fi who post regularly and (for whatever reason) interaction with other members of the community will always be cool. I think this is one of the friendliest and most informative boards I’ve been to.
