Short (often affectionate) for “people.” Is not limited to British slang, and is used frequently in the States.
quote
And while I’m on the subject, what is the definition of “hoopy” (SadGeezer keeps using that adjective)? Is it anything like daft?
Hoopy, as defined in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, is defined as “really together guy.” I guess, since it sounds like an adjective, some people have used it to describe really together guys. The next level up from hoopy is “frood,” which means “really amazingly together guy.” Used in a sentence: “Hey, you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There’s a frood who really knows where his towel is.” (“Sass”: Know, be aware of, have sex with.)
quote
And what’s a bloke? Is it just any bugger?
Just a guy.
