Aleck, I think it’s impossible to draw any definitive conclusions on where the war started, it may have been the Dark Zone as much as it could have been the light Universe.
Your suggestions that the dark zone seems less likely are well put, but there is no guarantee that the insects followed the Brunnen G to the light universe, it may have happened some time after the Brunnen G left the Dark Zone, or it could be said that the insects came from the light universe.
We simply will not know, as there is not enough evidence to offer a clear indication, the Dark Zone seemed more likely as it appeared to be the universe that was relatively unexplored by man as opposed to the light universe, in the sense that maybe that’s where the insects originated.
Maybe the insects felt that there territory was being invaded (if they did come from the dark zone), and if the insects were commonly the size of the Gigashadow, then entering the Fractal core to the light universe would have been impossible, they may have been able to send smaller insect warriors, but the big boys (those that were the size of the Gigashadow) would not be able to pass.
That would have severly hampered the insects in the war, but having said that this maybe the reason why mankind won the day, I couldn’t see how the Brunnen G could defeat insects the size of the Gigashadow when the most powerful weapon ever conceived (Lexx)could not even scratch it, plus the fact the Brunnen G would not have had the technology to match that of the Lexx.
It could be said that the Gigashadow was a one off insect, but even with the food it was fed on the cluster, it could’ve only grown to specific size, so there may have been many insects that could grow that large during the the time of the insect wars.
