Based on the recent SciFi Channel chat with Paul and Lex, I don’t get the impression that they are overly concerned with the opinions of the fans. They write and create what they like. It turned out different ways in each season. Say, have you noticed that each season is different? And I don’t think it has anything to do with vain attempts to appeal to fans or corporate suits. Paul stated in an interview with one of our moderators that SciFi would have gladly payed for a 5th season of Lexx. It’s just that the makers of the show are no longer interested in continuing it and they want to move on to other things. I think that’s good!
And that’s the way it should be, Paul and Lex have done that from the beginning, it’s their baby, and they have every right to do what they want.
It’s the same every season, they make some bad ones and then there are good ones, but that’s what you get if you experiment, which is why Lexx has an edge over other Sci-Fi, at least they are not rehashing previous episodes like other programmes.
Season 4 for me, is a typical Lexx season, I haven’t enjoyed all of it, but I’m not going to criticize it…what’s the point???
It’s worthwhile remembering that we probably won’t see another programme that doesn’t bow to mainstream opinion or what other’s feel makes good Sci-Fi, so if you don’t like it…tough, we do, and so does Paul and Lex, and that’s all that matters.
