With a protoblood-deficient Kai in the backseat of their hearse, Xev and Stan speed down the highway. They stop for a group of road workers (who are actually disguised FBI agents) and are quickly taken into custody. Moss, the agent in charge, pulls out an automatic weapon and it appears that the Lexx crew have seen their final days. Moss, however, has another agenda: he opens fire and kills the other FBI agents.

Moss puts Xev, Stan and Kai (all still handcuffed) into a van and drives them to his secret headquarters. He explains he is the field commander of the AFR (American Freedom Rangers), an extremist group that wants to destroy the President, Congress, and the ATF. Xev and Stan agree to help Moss in exchange for assistance in obtaining a space shuttle to get back to the Lexx.

In Washington, Prince has returned as a “ghost in the machine” at the White House. He appears in President Priest’s TV set and reasserts that he is still in command, despite his current lack of human form. Meanwhile, the Lexx crew discover Moss is insane. Although his bizarre conspiracy theories actually contain some truth, he is a paranoid, schizophrenic nutcase. Moss decides to court-martial the Lexx crew and quickly holds a trial in which he literally plays the role of judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney, giving new meaning to the term “split personality.”

He sentences them all to the death penalty, but before he can carry out the executions the AFR-IC (American Freedom Rangers – Idaho Convention), a rival extremist group, overthrow the AFR headquarters and kill Moss. Xev, Stan and Kai serendipitously recover their moth and fly back to the Lexx.
