Is anyone here old enough to remember the S4 newsreader’s past glories? Space1999 for one.
A bit of a coup for the beans, I’d say.
I don’t recall seeing this mentioned elsewhere but I apologise if this is old ground.

I’m not sure what you mean by “S4 newsreader”. Does it have something to do with season 4 of Lexx?

Tony Anholt played the part of Tony Verdeschi in the second season of Space:1999

What does Tony Anholt have to do with Lexx? I’m very curious because I’m a huge fan of Space:1999.

Visit my Space:1999 Videogames website. I haven’t returned to the project in many months, but I regularly get fan email encouraging me to continue.

Sad, if you’re interested, you could start a Space:1999 forum. I suppose you could call it cult science-fiction television. However, it might get less posts than the Aeon Flux forum!

I do remember Tony Anholt from Space 1999. He played the TV news anchor in Lyekka vs. Japan.

Oh, okay! Now I understand. Wow! I didn’t recognize him in Lyekka vs Japan!

Goddam! You guys have got good memories.
Tony appeared as the News Reader in Little Blue Planet and Texx Lexx, and later on in
Lyekka vs Japan and Yo Ay Oh.

According to the IMDB, good old Tony appeared in “A Midsummer Nightmare” a
TV movie from 1976. Interesting coincidence.

According to the IMDB he’s based in Britain,
which means he probably came on Board through
the British co-production angle.

Oddly, his career on the IMDB has a gap
between 1985 and 2000.

Also, interestingly enough, his son (whose first name escapes me) plays Nigel on Relic Hunter. I always wondered what happened to Tony, though, after Space 1999. Possibly he went on the stage in the UK?

I’m a huge Space:1999 fan (yes, of BOTH seasons!!) and I thought it was very cool that Tony was on Lexx. I belong to a S:99 forum and when I mentioned that Tony was to appear on Lexx, a couple of members called Lexx trash and pornography! For any S:99 fans out there, the series is now out on dvd with the last 12 episodes out in a month or two.

Yes! I have collected all of the first season of Space:1999 on DVD along with the first half of the second season. Consider you brits lucky because it looks like the UK version of the DVDs are much nicer with more goodies. My friend collected all the episodes on LASERDISC more than ten years ago. And it is also interesting to note that the two-part episode, Bringers Of Wonder has never been available on laserdisc or DVD before.

If anyone is interested, visit my Maya of Psychon Image Website.

Where is the Space:1999 forum you mentioned?

The largest, oldest, and most active Space:1999 forum is Online Alpha. The addy is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OnlineAlpha/%5B/url%5D
It’s a pretty busy forum with lots of posts, and of course, lots of controversy regarding Year One Vs. Year Two. I hope you enjoy it!
As far as the DVD extras, I’m hoping we Yanks get “Message From Moonbase Alpha” on the last set! When I saw it in ’99 at the Breakaway Con in LA I was stunned by it!!

What’s “Message From Moonbase Alpha”?

Message From Moonbase Alpha is the “unofficial” 49th episode of S:99. It was written by Johnny Byrne and stars Zienia Merton (Sandra). It is a short film using original sets and costumes and was made in 1999 by Tim Mallet (a fan). Johnny Byrne was the original series script supervisor and wrote some of the best episodes himself. Zienia was in both Year 1 and Year 2. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, but let’s just say it explained what happened to Moonbase Alpha and the Alphans and was very emotional. Supposedly, it’s going to be included on the French dvd’s as an extra feature. US fans are trying to get it included on the A&E final set due out in the next few months. It premiered at the closing ceremony of the Breakaway Convention in LA on 9/13/99 to a stunned audience! Not a dry eye in the house!
