*** MAJOR spoilers ***

President Priest is addressing the nation about the historic defeat of Lyekka’s alien menace – because no-one really cares about coastal Japan, right? – when a presidential aid rushes up to him. “What!?” Priest pales, and races off.

Heading back to the Whitehouse, Priest is told that the alien mothership that destroyed Tokyo was merely a probe … the real mothership has now arrived and is around twice the size of Earth’s moon. He immediately announces he wants to leave the planet with Bunny, but the general has other ideas; As a “Vietnam war hero”, Priest has just been called up into service. (ID4, anyone?)

On the Lexx, which is cruising away from Earth, the crew are somewhat shocked when Prince manages to spontaneously incarnate on the bridge – and this time there’s no alien treats around. “Prince, you’re dead, aren’t you?” Stan stammbers.

“I am dead.” Prince agrees. “Or, more accurately, I’m Death.” He goes onto explain that he’s finally realised his true purpose, and in the absence of ruling the Planet Fire he’s now fully into his capacity as the Grim Reaper. Makes sense he’d want to play chess with Kai, then.

Stan doesn’t believe Prince’s warnings about Earth’s date with destiny, and orders the Lexx to fly away faster … but it won’t respond. At least, not well. For the Lexx, after 6000 years, has reached the end of its natural lifespan and is succumbing to senility.

The alien asteroid arrives and attaches itself to the Earth, with giant tentacles decimating cities across the world and sucking up humans by the countryfull. In Longbore’s laboratory, it’s the day of selection, and Patsy and his friends aren’t too pleased that none of them have been selected to go on board the Noah. Longbore restrains them with the builder drones and points out that he’s been building something else on the side … a superdense particle acclerator that will calculate the mass of the Higgs-Bosen and, of course, destroy the Earth. *******.

The Lexx returns to Earth and Stan fires a small shot at the Asteroid, which isn’t enough to destroy it – and the Lexx has to rest from its journey now before it can fire one final shot from his weapon. More disturbingly, it answers a question from Xev… while it’s still dimly aware that Stan is its captain, it now seems happy to talk to anyone.

Sent up in a plane with Bunny, a tearful Prince admits that he’s not really a Vietnam war hero, and that he was sent from the Planet Fire along with Prince. Bunny replies that she loves him anyway, but since Priest can’t fly the plane… thankfully, Prince appears on the screen and carefully instructs Priest, guiding him to Texas. They parachute into Longbore’s lab and snatch the Noah out from under his nose, incinerating him in the jet blasts.

Stan, Xev and Kai fly down in a trio of moths to retrieve the Noah, but find they’ve missed it. Kai realises the particle accelerator is going critical and resolves that Prince / Death actually visited the Lexx for him. He says he’ll take the accelerator to destroy the asteroid, but has a feeling that this time he won’t be coming back. He apologises to Xev for never being able to love her as she wanted, kisses her briefly, and then attaches the accelerator to be towed by the moth.

The three moths take off together, which is just as well, because 790 has discovered that he is now able to command the brain-addled Lexx. He commands it to use its final shot to blow up the Earth, insane with potential jealousy, and the alien asteroid is torn away from the remains of the planet with a large gash in one side.

At this point, Prince appears in Kai’s moth and gifts him life once more so that he can pick up where his journey left off. Kai resolves to blow up the asteroid anyway, or Lyekka and her species will destroy all life in the universe. Realising that they’re doomed anyway, Stan orders Xev to turn and assist Kai. They fly through a swarm of Lyekka pods together, ducking weaving and ramming, but only Kai makes it inside the alien asteroid before it seals up, trapping him inside.

Seeing blood on his knuckles, Kai begins to sing the Brunnen-G anthem… a song that all warriors sing when they go into battle, expecting to die. A tearful Xev and Stan join him in song as he, in a scene eerily reminiscent of Lexx 1, pilots his tiny insect craft through the tunnels of the asteroid and eventually crashes onto the floor. There’s no His Shadow this time, though. Realising his journey has at last come to an end, and as the mass of the Higgs-Bosen is resolved at 13 13 13 13 13… Kai laughs.

And then he’s gone.

“Free at last!” shouts Prince triumphantly, appearing on the bridge of the Noah and draping his arms around Bunny and Priest. “And our journey is just beginning…”

The Lexx has sung its final song… the viewscreen shrivels and decays, the corridors seals themselves up and 790 is sent tumbling into space as the Lexx turns to dust. A desolate Stan and Xev float in their moths, with no hope in sight … until, from the wreckage, Xev notices a tiny baby…

A tiny baby Lexx, that is. No bigger than a house, white and fresh, they board and Stan introduces himself as the Captain. “Yes…” says Little Lexx, thoughtfully. “You ARE my captain.” Stan is gifted with a new key, and the Lexx asks “What shall I do for you, Captain?”

Stan looks at Xev, smiles and hugs her. All they have is each other, but they finally realise what that means. “Find us a new home, little Lexx!” he commands, and this is where our story ends … but not the adventure.

Tumbling through space, 790 is composing an epic, 10,000 verse poem to Kai … when a very hungry baby Lexx swoops down and gobbles him up.

Not unlike Kai theFrey laughs, “Free at last!” She exults. Do you have any idea what a monumental pain in the hiney keeping my mouth shut on this has been for the last seven months? I call upon the Techno-Gods to be my witness that none of the spoiler tidbits leaked over the last few months were from me.

It was an excellent, if sad set of ending scenes when Kai discovered that he was indeed alive. I am looking forward to re-watching it this evening. The shocked expression on Kai’s face when he experiences his first actually injury in over six thousand years was heartbreaking.

And now, in tribute to the final episode of LEXX, a song. It may not be completely lyrically appropriate, but it feels right.

This Wheel’s On Fire
by Bob Dylan and Rick Danko

If your mem’ry serves you well,
We were goin’ to meet again and wait,
So I’m goin’ to unpack all my things
And sit before it gets too late.
No man alive will come to you
With another tale to tell,
But you know that we shall meet again
If your mem’ry serves you well.

This wheel’s on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

If your mem’ry serves you well,
I was goin’ to confiscate your lace,
And wrap it up in a sailor’s knot
And hide it in your case.
If I knew for sure that it was yours…
But it was oh so hard to tell.
But you knew that we would meet again,
If your mem’ry serves you well.

This wheel’s on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

If your mem’ry serves you well,
You’ll remember you’re the one
That called on me to call on them
To get you your favors done.
And after ev’ry plan had failed
And there was nothing more to tell,
You knew that we would meet again,
If your mem’ry served you well.

This wheel’s on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

To steal a phrase, what a long, strange trip it’s been.

Thanks.

I couldn’t resist. Besides, I wanted to find out what happened in case my cable craps out on me. The channel I watch it on does not repeat the episodes hours after it plays them. Knowing that Prince, Bunny, Xev, Stan and (little) Lexx live and that 790, Longbore and Kai dies doesn’t diminish the joy I will have in watching it. On Wednesday night (May 1/Space 9p.m.)it is Glossette’s and ice cream time! YeeHaw!

No time prophet. No cycle. No one became the sun or moon to save Kai in Super Nova. Really kind of a standard ending. I liked it, don’t get me wrong(Flamegrape!)Otherwise it sounds great. The Priest and Bunny show-in space! Great fanfiction is going to come out of that one, even if they don’t do a spinoff series. I can see the taglines now…

See!

*Priest trying to find a planet to rule, then screwing it up and only being saved by Bunny’s extensive knowledge of aerobic instruction. Every time. It’s all about variations on a theme, after all.

See!
*Priest and Bunny stalking Stan and Xev through the universe.

See!
*Priest and Bunny gettin’ it OOON!
*And other stuff. I like that they’re going to be the Adam and Eve whose descendants will defeat the insects. There’s also probably an element of Terminator 2 in it since they know the history.

I’m excited. I’m switching to Word right now.

After this question, of course.
Where’s the continuity with the Lexx baby, if there is any? Granted, I saw it in Dutch Treat, but it just kind of appeared as far as I know.
Lexx is dead. Long live Lexx!

This was a fantastic episode from beginning to end and I was spellbound the entire hour…Paul Donovan did an outstanding writing/directing job, what a talent he is…

I only have ONE complaint…. Kai was not in love with Xev, was he??? When she, with tears in her eyes, softly told him for the last time that she loved him, it was his chance to say, “I love you, too, Xev…. I mean he was feeling by then and when he did’nt say it, I truly think he did’nt feel it…He said he was sorry he could’nt love her in the way that she wanted….If he loved her, he would have said, “I’m sorry that I could not love you in the way that I wanted…..” Maybe I am seeing it wrong but just once I wanted him to say he loved her..

Thefrey, when you were in Halifax did you see parts of this episode being filmed…??Wow, you must of been bursting at the seams to tell someone, I don’t think I could have kept such a secret so long….!!

Did Longbore intend to impregnate all those women he wanted to take with him on the Noah..? Wow, what a guy and in a wheelchair no less and an obvious senior citizen…He was quite the optimist!!

Well, I’m still a little numb from the finale, again, it was an episode to end all episodes and I guess it did just that….

Hmmm. See, when Kai said “I’m sorry I couldn’t love you the way you wanted me to”, I took that to mean that Kai DID love Xev all along, but simply wasn’t able to be demonstrative about it in the way Xev had hoped for. I know that Kai always denied his feelings under the premise of “the dead do not love” or whatever, but his actions (and expressions) always told a much different story (imho).

I think Kai has always loved zev/xev. In Giga Shadow when he ran out of proto blood, he reached for Zev saying Goodbye Zev, my…and collapsed. I think he was going to tell her he loved her. When Zev died, he choked up. When he killed Prince/Xev, he stoked her cheek before he dispatched “her”. Even so, I wish he’d said I love you as well, Xev. Ah well, this is Lexx after all.

I am already Lexx deprived. Today I began watching the whole thing again beginning with IWHS. I have also ordered the last season 2 dvd and the first dvd of s3 and preordered the second dvd for s3. What occurs to me the most is how young Stan and Kai looked. It’s hard to believe the first movie is apprx.6yrs old. This was such a unique show.

i am going to take the liberty of answering this nb… yes! this is the ending of lexx that we saw being filmed our first day in halifax that we talked about in the halifax diaries …kai’s death is what ‘michael had lobbied for’, and stan’s moth scenes were why michael was singing ‘yo vay yo’ in the studio for brian’s takes in the moth; so that brian would get in the spirit of the thing and start crying…blackie didn’t see all this being filmed, i had to pick her up at the airport afterwards…and the only reason we were able to keep it a secret was that we had each other to bitch to about it
