Firstly, I would like to apologise to anyone who feels it is inappropriate for me to post this on the Lexx board, but I need to say this.
The attacks on the US have left me numb and shocked, I can’t put into words the sorrow and grief I feel for the people of this fine nation.
I know that now is not the time to be thinking of retaliation, but my anger has got the better of me at the moment.
I hope the G W Bush will finally do what needs to be done and eradicate this scum from the face of our planet for good, no quarter should be left in his pursuit of retribution against these animals.
It’s time the rest of the civilised world united as one force and hunted down these pathetic *******s.
Of course the loss of the Trade Centre and massive damage inflicted on the Pentagon is an atrocity, but the lives lost overshadow this.
I hope that politician’s don’t just walk around and give the usual spiel of what a horrifying act this is, and take firm and resolute action.
It’s time that more action on Air security was implemented, personally I would have an armed and trained marksmen on every plane, and that the cockpit could be sealed in an emergency, and the rest of the plane could be filled with a harmless but quick knockout gas.
Anyway, my heart goes out to my friends in America, and I’m sure the rest of the UK share the same sentiments as myself, rest assured that this country will do all it can to help the US in everyway possible, of this I’m sure.
Again, this maybe what you wouldn’t want to hear at this time, and I apologise to anyone if this proved wrong to do.

12th September 2001 at 1:05 am #48806AnonymousGuestI certainly hope your are correct in your
assumption that the government will retaliate
swiftly to those whom have perpetrated this
heinous act. However I will not hold my breath waiting for them to place blame. They
will undoubtedly have to do an ‘investigation’ to determine which faction
had planned this event. If they are individuals and not a foreign government,
I’m afraid we’ll be at the mercy of the
court system once again, with the perpetrators only getting jail time, like the
first bombers. They didn’t pay with their
lives, even though they should have. They
should have considered this an act of war on
the US, which enables them to strike swiftly,
but I fear the international community will
probably not allow that. I only hope that
none of our loved ones were on any of the
planes that were lost. They have not released
names of any passengers as of yet. And I hope
that our friends in Canada are doing well,
and not affected by the catastrophe.
Maya X 12th September 2001 at 4:14 am #48807AnonymousGuestNo, it’s not inappropriate at all Squishy, and thank you.
I feel trite doing this, but I’d like to express sympathy for the survivors, and for the family’s of the murdered.
And I hope that the f***heads (to put it nicely) who planned this get what thay deserve.

thank you squishy, and all of you for showing solidarity…like thousands of other people today, i have spent the day crying and trying to reach my friends, in between sitting with my partner waiting to hear if his son was alive; today his son was in times square office instead of the world trade center; we finally heard at 1pm…i have reached some of my friends and have yet to hear from others…my father recently retired from his job in the pentagon,so my parents called me quickly…i am sorry to say my horror at the final moments of the people on those planes, and the sight of people jumping out of the trade center, and the police and firedepartment rescuers trapped by the collapse is matched only by my hatred and desire for revenge on the animals who did this…the pentagon is a military installation; obviously those airplanes and the world trade center were not…i am trying to temper my hatred with the support you here, and israel, are showing, but right now all i can think about is all these thousands of people never having a chance…let’s hope that cooler heads than mine prevail, and that all of these victims did not have time to suffer…fx

Elloquently and sensitively put sweety.
I’m still trying to get through on the phone to family and friends. Phones are busy to the US at the moment and have been all day.

I’ve been looking at other forums during the day, and the whole thing has got people scared of the whole thing escalating into WW3.
But oddly enough, Vladimir Putin of Russia was the first to call for a combined effort to eradicate this cancer we have in our world.
I thank god the superpowers have reacted in this way, I don’t think there is much choice left but to fight fire with fire, we have for so long been able to stomach past atrocities and acts of terrorism, but make no mistake, this goes beyond terrorism, it is a war being waged on the civilised world…and we must respond in kind.
I have seen some horrific things happen, but not since the last world war has some much devastation and death been inflicted.
I am sickened by the barbaric animals in Palestine and Libya who celebrate this evil, I have to say that these countries as a whole are not innocent and they certainly are not civilised, as you and I would not be celebrating openly at the deaths of other’s…even in a state of war.
That’s what seperate’s us from these so-called religious people, they are an insult to anybody’s god, and although I don’t want to see an entire country suffer I can’t think of any other way of catching these criminals.
Fact is, if firm action is not taken, then those countries will see it as an act of cowardice and perpertrate more acts of aggression that would be of a worse scale than we saw today.
We need to seek them out, and if anyone stands in our way, then they must be regarded as one of them and dealt with in the same manner.
I’m sorry i haven’t got a cool head in this situation, but it’s not blood-lust, I can simply see no peaceable alternative to the situation, they are mad fanatics that will not listen to reason or negotiate, so only violence will bring them to their knees…anyone who say’s different is welcome to try and talk to these animals, but on your life be it.
Squishy12th September 2001 at 6:08 am #48812AnonymousGuestPlease, let’s not retaliate blind. This is so horrible, let’s not make it any worse.

I fully agree with you Hypatia, the whole thing needs to be looked at closely and a course of action needs to be determined.
But the biggest problem faced with taking out these monsters is the people that protect them, simply the intelligence services and crack military outfits have been unable to strike back.
The time is not now for wanton acts of retaliation, that time will come, but we must act swiftly while the world speaks as one voice, as we have seen in the past, that the loud noise made is reduced to a whimper in the following weeks.
I am frightened of the consequences of taking action at any time, but what choice do we have, as the terrorists will continue to strike hard and deep into our countries, and next time we may be the ones that are not so lucky.
Several day’s of thought are required from the person in the street to the President of the United States, so that blind anger doesn’t play too much of a part in our response.
Squishy12th September 2001 at 6:36 am #48814AnonymousGuestAs I am writing this tears of sorrow are streaming down my face, I can’t get the images of the people falling through the air off the World Trade Center out of my mind as well as the horror that must have been felt by the hi-jacked passengers. These were people who had their morning coffee, read the paper and went off to work. They were Moms, Dads, Sisters, Brothers, Lovers and Friends and they are lost…. I wanted to post something to express my feelings as an American ( and living a few hours in Pennsylvania from where one of the hi-jacked planes fell) I did’nt know quite what to say but all of you have said just about what was in my mind. As my mind rages against these animals who perpetrated these acts I find comfort in your words, your hearts and your compassion…There really IS something special about Lexxians..
There must be swift and sure retaliation as they have forced the Americans beyond their tolerance……

I agree with you, for me the peak of anger has passed and I’m now thinking clearly as to what blind retribution could mean to the world.
It is bound too happen that even the most placid human being would show anger and hatred in the aftermath of this day, but the press have shown many arabs celebrating this as some sick personal pleasure.
After seeing that, I could understand a reaction from people who have cannot contain their anger, but we all need to look forward.
The American people are the strongest and bravest in the world, and I know they will not allow these cowards to subdue them, like the British, you have a unique spirit to carry on with your lives in the face of such adversity.
You all have inmeasurable reserves of courage and determination, you have faced many threats and always stood up to them, those who try to destroy that spirit will fail everytime…as the whole world knows you are better than them.I would like to share something with those that feel an immediate reaction to today’s events would be the right thing to do.
I have had an unhealthy interest in the prophecies of Nostradamus for a very long time, I would like to share one of his quatrains, so that we can all be wary of the bigger scenario should we react in the wrong manner:
In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers (World Trade towers)torn apart by
Chaos, while the fortress (Pentagon)endures, the great leader(Bush)will succumb” , “The
third big war will begin when the big city is burning”
Now that seems alarming, but it’s a wake up call for those that feel that we should strkie now, but Nostradamus has been wrong countless times, I hope this one of them.

Squish, first off thanks. Your concern is entirely appropriate and greatly appreciated. Tragic events like this remind us what’s really important in life and how trivial some of our every day concerns are. Our earlier tiff seems embarassingly silly in light of what many people are going through now.

Flamegrape, I know you just used the Serbs as a hypothetical example, but I don’t believe there’s any possibility whatsoever that they were involved, even if there is lingering anger at Nato countries over the massive bombing they endured. They got rid of Milosevic, instituted a democratic government (by Balkan standards) and have made every effort to reintegrate into Europe and the West. I think the majority of people there support these efforts and want to put the past behind and live like other Europeans. Anyway, except under Milosevic, they’ve usually been friendly towards the US and Britain and were allies in both world wars.

Squish, despite the ignorant ugly celebrations of people in the occupied territories (who themselves live under appallingly brutal and bleak conditions every day of their lives), I strongly doubt Arafat and the Palestinian leadership would do this for fear of loosing all US and Western support in ongoing or potential peace negotiations with Israel, however futile these appear to be at the moment. It could be a separate, more radical faction, but I doubt they would have the resources for something of this scale.
My guess, which is speculative at best, is that either Iraq and Saddam are responsible, or more likely, the apparently well financed and organized terrorist group under Osama Bin Ladin, the ex Saudi billionaire. Saddam would have the motivation of revenge for his defeat in the Gulf war and the fact that we’ve been bombing him for ten years now, but since he would be such an easy target for retaliation, I’m not sure he would be that stupid (although he was in the past). Bin Ladin’s motivation is less clear, but is probably related to US support of Israel and past US and British policy in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the other Gulf States, most of which were specifically created right after the fall of the Ottoman empire in 1918 to provide the West with cheap oil. The problem is that these states were set up as kingdoms with all the wealth going to a few corrupt Emirs at the expense of the vast majority of Arabs who lived in appalling poverty. There’s still a lot of resentment in many parts of the Arab world over these continuing policies, and when this resentment is combined with religious fundamentalism, it’s easy to find willing recruits ready to give their lives in the struggle against the perceived enemy (us). Bin Laden seems to have the resources to achieve a level of sophistication not seen in most terrorist groups – this was a very coordinated effort involving trained pilots and precise timing. He’s been an elusive target since he first bombed two US embassies in Africa several years ago, but is reported to be in Afghanistan which is itself lead by a fundamentalist Islamic government called the Taliban. In his speech tonight, President Bush said that we will hold those who harbor terrorists equally responsible, so I wouldn’t be surprised to either see the Taliban become more cooperative or some action to be taken against them in the near future, assuming of course that it is Bin Ladin behind this.

Actually, and this is a trivial point, this quote is not taken from Nostradamus’ quatrains. It was written by a Canadian critic (Neil Marshall) of Nostradamus and the phenomenon around him as an example of a vague and ambiguous prediction. It’s just coincidence that it fits so well in this case.

I know the U.S. suffered, I am an American as well. Maybe we just got 30 years of terrorism at once. Everyone else has been getting their small doses for the past … well since anyone could remember. Unless we are all vaporized or die in an agonizingly slow nuclear winter I see no end in sight. I’d like to think I am a good person though. Hopefully not to much will happen in the next 10 years or so. Have a great “Right Now” everyone!
