What the beans need to do now is release some of the out-takes, extra footage and stuff that didnt make the show on a Special Edition DVD. It could be part of a Lexx documentary to celebrate Lexx and it would feed the fans desire for more Lexx stuff. There must be some “lost-episodes” out there somewhere?
14th May 2002 at 11:43 am #57802AnonymousGuestAt the second UnCon, Paul Donovan gave away about 150 to 200 VHS production tapes of LEXX. It was a complete grab bag, one person got an audition tape for the fruit salad girls from boomtown. Some people got dailies. Others got rushes. Partial scenes. Flubs. Outtakes. Videomatics. Incomplete CGI, greenscreen stuff. All kinds of things. Some got complete episodes
which was kind of a crap shoot. But if you’re looking for that kind of thing, my advice is to track down everyone who attended UnCon II and start hitting them up to trade with. Possibly a lot of it is junk, but there’s a real chance that we could accumulate a few good hours with these tapes.
As for a formal blooper tape. Seasons one and two were shot on film, 35 mm and 16 mm. Film has sound and film recorded separately, and they have to be played simultanously in rushes. After, they’re combined in the lab, but that’s expensive. So normally, they only combine the scenes they want. This means that bloopers, flubs, etc., never get that extra stage of processing necessary to pull it together.
Third season, they did preserve some bloopers, but those showed up in the documentary, I don’t know if there was much else that was singled out.
Third and fourth season, by the way, were shot on video, which meant that sound and image were recorded simultaneously on the same tape. Also, videotapes recorded for 45 minutes, and were cheap, whereas film would go four minutes per mag and was expensive.
So the likelihood of recording fun stuff went up.On the other hand, in third season, no one was keeping a file of these things.
Fourth season, at the wrap party, someone did a blooper tape. This will probably show up on the 4th season DVD’s.
