Atlanta Rally Update:
45 Frscape fans ralleyed outside the CNN offices in Atlanda on Saturday. Fans considered this a success on such short notice, however their reception by CNN staffers was luke-warm at best. Security wouldn’t let them leave a thank you card for Mr. San Miguel (Reporter for CNN
Headline News). For a save Farscape ralley in your enighbourhood, visit:
http://katyaz.home.attbi.com/farscaperally.html
Note: There will be a second NY rally on Monday, September 15th.Rumour Mill:
I have heard very unsubstatiated rumours from a number of sources that some descision about the fate of Farscape is to be made by Sci Fi today.
Town Meeting in #Farscape:
The highlights of the town meeting in #Farscape on Saturday, 14 September are as follows:
Keep up the letter and E-mail campaign, to any and all addresses you have
Focus on letting Sci Fi know that you watch Sci Fi mainly for Farscape, and that your patronage of that show leads you to watch other Sci Fi programming.
Point this out to other networks who may be willing to pick up Farscape.
To sum it up: Write, write, write. Our voices are being heard.

This is Great!!
18th September 2002 at 9:58 am #59089AnonymousGuestYou are most welcome! Just doing my part… and hogging up all the bandwidth in the Farscape forum, apparently!
Thanks for letting me!
Camelyn18th September 2002 at 4:32 pm #59090AnonymousGuestI heard something about sending boxes of crackers ala Roswell and their tabsco. Did that actually happen?
18th September 2002 at 8:53 pm #59091AnonymousGuestSome people had sent in boxes of crackers. However, said crackers arrived at the Sci Fi buildings on or around Sept 11, crushed to a powder. Needless to say, this caused a bit of a stir, and the campaign requests that people send *empty* cracker boxes, if they really want to make that statement. A well expressed, hand-writtenletter would probably have more impact though.

Sounds like I-Mans cancellation. Fans sent in glitter and packets of crystals ala Dried Quicksilver. This TOTALLY freaked out Sci-Fi network which had to release a statement and immediatly dispose of any such packaging turning it into a negative campaign =/
Great work Camelyn, I hope your dedication pays off. Farscape deserves a home.

Well, the people at Sci Fi seem to prefer it when their powders come in crystallized, smokeable form.
20th September 2002 at 9:14 am #59096AnonymousGuestDavid Kemper, Rick Manning Chat Transcript:
19 Sept, 2002
David Kemper and Richard Manning on irc.scifi.com – chat log 9/19/02 8:52 PM EDT http://www.freepilot.org/%5B/url%5DIn Summary, to paraphrase David Kemper:
1. At the moment, negotiations with Sci Fi are closed, and there are no new episodes planned.
2. The remaining 11 eps to air in January are going to Kick A**.
3. On the Sci Fi cancellation FAQ ( http://www.scifi.com/farscape/faq/%5B/url%5D ) Ratings points are valid, however Farscape was given a bad timeslot and incompatible lead-in shows (Camelyn’s note: S’cuse me? Remember Lexx?)
4. Cut back on the campaign action until the new episodes air in January, then make a big push for renewal.
5. Get more people to watch the show (D’uh!)to get a 2.0 rating.
6. The cast and crew are moving on for now, to other projects, but season 5 is layed out and ready to go if ever the opportunity to make it should arise.Camelyn’s Note: There was absolutely no mention of continuing the push to have Farscape picked up by UPN or Showtime. This leaves me a mite discouraged, and I am not sure where we are headed from here. I’ll keep you posted.

But the timeslots were reversed then. Farscape was on at 9pm and Lexx at 10pm. Not it’s SG-1 at 9pm and Farscape at 10pm.
Considering the new sci fi show on Showtime (Odyssey 5) is on in the 10pm timeslot (which SG-1 had when on Showtime), it wouldn’t surprise me if Sci Fi had to agreee to show SG-1 in a different slot when they bought the show.
Besides Odyssey 5, there’s also Law & Order, Alias, Monk, and usually a new-release movie on HBO. All of which are highly rated (and watched) shows that offer stiff competition to Farscape.
Of course, why Sci Fi is *not* showing reruns of Farscape during the hiatus but are showing the entire run of SG1 twice over is beyond me. Well, not really, it’s all about the money. They paid too much for SG-1.
21st September 2002 at 10:15 am #59098AnonymousGuestToday at noon, the sets were brought down and moved out. Thats all folks unless a network would be willing to start nearly from scratch.
Apparantly the sets were supposed to be brought down earlier, but there was a delay. I wonder if Sci-Fi and the show tried to work things out?

Yep, they did. After the initial outcry, They ordered that a stop be put to the dismantling of the sets. They went into negotiations with Henson and the Farscape people, but the (apparently) final word on that is they went nowhere. It has been suggested that a big push be made to increase viewership for the January re-start of season 4, in hopes that this will encourage Sci Fi to renew at that time. But at the moment, no new talks are anticipated. We ain’t quite ready to give up yet though See below:
A 5th of Farscape Global Rally
From Barbarella:
“This is the Global Rally Tag Name for Press Please add it to your pages and link it to http://www.savefarscapecentral.com/cgi-bin/rall y.cgi?action=display (The rally info page).
Also Please remember that the cut off date for local rally and co-ordinator submission is SUNDAY September 22. If you want to co-ordinate your area please sign up. Contact dan @ savefarscapecentral.com subject RALLY TEAM body of USERID and Password you want to use.”In the mean time, the push is going to be for publicity for Farscape, through the local, national and international media. We have to keep the momentum going until January. That won’t be in any way, shape or form an easy task.

22nd September 2002 at 2:53 am #59100AnonymousGuestI think a capital idea here is to get new people watching the show. I’m going to see about getting a marathon setup with the Sci Fi clubs at Columbia and/or NYU.

That’s a great idea. Push for new viewers until January, then brign in some really high numbers to use as ammunition to bring back the show to Sci Fi, or sell it to another network.
News:
David Kemper Speaks:
Interview on “Interstellar Transmisions”
http://farscape.wdsection.com/news/article.php?newsid=73Farscape in TV Guide
From Alikhat:
The ever wonderful Matt Roush of TV Guide has devoted his latest ROUSHRANT in the print version (Sep 28-Oct 4) to our own beloved Farscape.“Does cable’s Sci-Fi Channel not understand its core audience-a group known for putting the *fan* in fanatic? Some of these people still haven’t forgiven NBC for canceling the first Star Trek, in 1969. How does Sci-Fi expect such ardent souls to react after it gave the fantastically entertaining FARSCAPE the boot before it could film the promised fifth season? (The remainder of the fourth season resumes in January.) Yes, the show is expensive-it certainly looks it-but even if the ratings were flat, Farscape gave the network credibility, acclaim and prestige. Without it, Sci-Fi is just another green-cheese merchant.”

Save Farscape: http://farscape.wdsection.com/%5B/url%5D26th September 2002 at 5:48 am #59102AnonymousGuestAs I have said before, the focus until January when the season resumes will be to keep Farscape in the media. So What’s the Strategy?
The Save Farscape team has come up with a comprehensive list of objectives and strategies for the campaign to save Farscape. As I stated before, based on imput from the Farscape creators, the Henson Company, and the cast, the strategy has shifted forcus from a renewal of Farscape on Sci Fi, to the push to have Farscape picked up by another network. Save Farscape on Fox?
WDsection received the following from a producer at Fox News Channel:
I work at Fox News Channel. Is there any video available of the various rallies, protests, posters, websites, supporters, scifi employees looking uncomfortable, clips of the show, and so forth???
I haven’t heard anything since the Rally’s, but I will report it when I do.
Speaking of the Rally’s…

Here is another interesting report, but with absolutely no details, I can’t confirm anything, like time and location, or even if it is a sure thing.

Its is my pleasure to announce another live webcast. This time its from St Louis on Friday 1st November. Members of the Cast have already told us they’ll be attending and they’re looking forward to it.

Save Farscape10th October 2002 at 6:18 am #59105AnonymousGuestAtlanta Rally Article and Streaming Audio Interviews
Well, here it is, finally! The article and streaming audio of the cast at the 5th of Farscape Atlanta Rally: Scifidimensions
Trekkie/Scaper Alliance?? (I had to post it, you understand, don’t you? )
From Aeryn221:
Here’s some scoop from Trekweb. “ST: Nemesis” is due out in theatres this December, and it’s said to be the last ST movie. Anyway, the cast and crew want to continue the series of movies. The suits, on the other hand, want to see better numbers. If there isn’t an excellent turnout within the first week of release, “Nemesis” will definitely be the last ST movie. Sound a little familiar!
So, here’s the proposal; Scapers help buy up all the tickets for “Nemesis” in Dec. Then, Trekkies turn their TVs on to Farscape all throughout Jan. You can go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Frelling_Scapers/%5B/url%5D and JOIN THE ALLIANCE! Over the next couple of months we should start organizing groups to go to various movie theaters in Dec. to simultaneously show support for Star Trek and Farscape. Let’s keep the buzz going! WE CAN DO IT!Read more about the Save Farscape Marketing Plan

have just read your post about the Trekkie/Scaper alliance. clicked on the link to have a look. what about those of us in the UK? could we help with such a thing? have mailed the topic to a friend. will hopefully convert him to the cause!!! he’s primarily a Trek fan, so i’m sure he’ll be disappointed about there potentially being no more Trek films-as would i be. losing Farscape would be bad enough….22nd October 2002 at 5:43 am #59107AnonymousGuestquote:

Hi Snooklepie
I apologize for the late response . I honestly don’t have very many details about his particular campaign, save for what I posted in my original message. I would suggest that the best thing to do would be to join the Yahoo group that was formed and direct your questions to the organizers. I am sure that they would be glad to have you on board, wherever you are in the world!
