I’m sorry, but I must vent.

I hate you, I hate you all! Wait, no, stop! I don’t hate anyone, not really. I’m just so darn jealous. I wanna go! I have the money, I have the vacation, I don’t need a passport, unfortunately, my beloved spouse thinks I need major therapy for even considering a Hailifax/SciFi vacation.

He is dead set against leaving the States, especially for someplace where Whale Watching is one of the offered attractions. Why did we have to decide to take a vacation together this year!

God I hope Lexx is filming next year!

Omigosh, LexxFan, the last time anyone made me feel this good about being single, fate stepped in and made me fall for someone putting, as they say, an end to all that. So stop it! Besides, you’re going about this all wrong. You have to sell the place not Lexx, if your hubby doesn’t dig the show. Halifax is just truly gorgeous! The surrounding areas are beautiful, too. What does hubby like to do? You can do almost anything up North, except dive for coral I guess.  Or, maybe you can split your vacation, do something you both like, part Lexx, part something he likes; compromise. It’s a bummer to see ya so, well, bummed out. But, come vent anytime, plenty o’ us for you to hate (no, not really ), and it will save on therapy!{which, incidently, I don’t think you need at all; love of Lexx? Sounds perfectly normal to me! }

Keep working on him LF. I am so glad I’m single! Also, at my age and girth, it is unlikely anyone will become an obstruction!

Indeed there is a casino in Halifax. Check out Halifax online and reference the night life and entertainment section.

Well, I can understand that feeling good about being single thing. Trust me if I wasn’t into this thing for over 19 years I’d consider it. Hubby hates scenery, cultural attractions, and natural wonders. (It is true what they say about opposites attracting, living proof right here) Here is the main question. What kind of gambling (if any) do they have in Halifax? He has a weakness for that, and that alone. Since he cannot gamble here, any vacation that makes him happy, must allow it there. That is one of the reasons we have not taken a REAL vacation together for years.
I loathe and despise Las Vegas, Atlantic City and New Orleans for that reason, and if he drags me to Sheevesport one more time, I may hurl.

Trust me BlackCloud, I totally avoided any mention of Lexx or Scifi, I danced artfully around it for over an hour. Unfortunately, Hubby is of a suspicious nature, and not exactly stupid. I could almost see the little wheels turning in his mind. And then out of nowhere the bulb lit and he guessed that Halifax was connected to that Lexx-Luther (??) Crap you’ve started watching on video isn’t it. (I originally noticed Lexx when he was watching the Scifi marathon in February, I was impressed that he actually knew what the program was about)Anyhow, the negotiation when down hill from there. Even though I told him that he did not have to go to the Scifi (Lexx) crap, and he would get to wear regular clothes. Huh? About fifteen years ago I dragged him to a Society of Creative Anarchisms historical event, that apparently scarred him for life. I don’t understand it myself, he claims to like Scifi, he just doesn’t think it should leave his TV screen.

Sigh .. . . . ..

I’M GOING TO HALIFAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you nwmonikr!

It was the casino that put it over the top! He said he’d go where ever I wanted to as long as he could do a little gambling. YES!
Break out the Visa Card! I’ve got reservation for Dalhousie this morning. I’ll get plane reservations tonight!

I will admit that he did wench a bit over the airfare, but seemed to get over that. I think he remembered that since it was my turn to pick a place, if he didn’t go to Halifax, 😛 his a** was going to be walking in the sun four miles from the parking lot to the launching sites of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in October. At which point in time he would get to sit in the New Mexico sun and watch the pretty balloons go up and down. 😛

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I’ll try to find a padded envelope tonight. Thanks.

I decided to switch to thefrey, to keep all my stuff on all the boards the same.

Hubby wanted a hotel in Halifax, but I made arrangements for Dalhousie, because I wanted to be where I could meet everyone. I *told* him it was a dorm where they rent rooms in the summer just like the University of Pittsburgh does. So apparently having fond memories of the of the Pitt dorms, (he spent a lot of *quality* time there in his twenties) he said “fine whatever.” Tonight at dinner it struck him that dorms have community bathrooms. Duh. He like to had a fit.

Are they horrible? Is he never going to forgive me? I really don’t want to change my arrangements.

Having no fond memories of dorm life in college, Mrs. Bader was a btch and I was tender feelinged at the time. Not a good combo.
I decided to stay at the Barrington(the older one.) I really enjoy Victoriana and also the fact they have a nice restaurant on site were contributing factors. They are fairly reasonable as well. I’m looking forward to the experience.

hi thefrey, blackie and i had this conversation a while back when we were deciding where to stay…we too had fond memories of college but we both shuddered at trotting purposefully down the hall every time nature called, so we took the lazy old lady route and rented rooms at a b and b, walking distance to everything…if you visit halifax site, there is a ton of bandbs et al at all ranges so maybe this trip will be a little romantic depending upon who or what you see at the uncon and how his day at the casino goes rots of ruck love fx

‘nah, we have both been taking turns being deathly ill with different things this month, I’d be afraid to try a ‘wile’, for fear that we’d both end up with both illinesses. Since it was still a topic of conversation this evening, in the interests of family harmony I booked us at the Citadel and rented him a car. Never let it be said that I would expect my baby to rough it in his old age.

I’ll be a little further from things than I wanted to be, but maybe he’ll feel better.

Whoo-Hoo! Girlfriend, I am soooo glad you’re gonna make it! Who’da thunk it? One casino as a deal maker or breaker. Well, I see that it’s right on the waterfront so it should be very scenic for you, though I doubt hubby will be taking in any of those sights outside, just the ones inside. Well, get yer tags and bags and we’ll be seein’ ya at UnCon! And, don’t worry about being too far from things; the city is really not too huge.

I stayed at Dalhousie for the 1999 LEXXCon and found it wonderful! Sure its not flashy and the communal arrangements are basic, but it is clean and everything works and it’s GREAT fun.

I personally found it a real pleasure – I’m a professional chicken-leg eater (someone who travels around going to presentations and seminars etc.) and I found it a nice change.

Best thing to tell him thefrey, is ‘there will be lots of women staying there too’

showertime is a lot of fun!

hehe, only joking – all the locks work (worst luck )

While I would never call thespouse cheap, ’cause he’s not. I do not believe I have heard him utter the words “Spend the money!” so many times and with as much feeling as he did before I booked him his hotel room. Doubtless he is much relieved to be delivered from communal potties. Although, the communal television was also going to cause him grief. He is after all the master of his remote.

Where is every one else staying?

chuckling…my ex and i had the same problem, reversed, he would venture out on camping trips whereas my idea of roughing it is the holiday inn…i am italian you see, and i firmly believe my ancestors had the right idea, the first thing they did when they conquered a place was settle in and build baths with hot running water and nice little furnaces to protect us from the elements…my trips to england left me convinced that they are still using the same plumbing

Sad, I think, no, I know, thespouse is getting old. I told him what you said about the lots-o-women being in the dorm and locking shower stalls. I also mentioned something I had seen on another board about the occasional midnight female streaker going to the bathroom at night.

Thespouse looked at me like I was nuts. He told me he didn’t care how many women were where, and he especially didn’t care about strange naked women roaming the hallways. In fact the only thing that peaked his interest was the locking shower stall! 😀

P.s. Strange, as in unknown, not weird. 🙂

Gambling maybe a problem, but gamboling never. I truly think a naked super model could stand beside him at the tables, and he would be ****ed if she interupted his game by trying talk to him. Now if was throwing him good cards while she was naked, then we might have a problem.
