    Happy birthday, Joel Hodgson!

    EVERYBODY SING:

    In the not-too-distant future-
    Next Sunday A.D.-
There was a guy named Joel,
Not too different from you or me.
    He worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
He did a good job cleaning up the place,
But his bosses didn’t like him
So they shot him into space.

    We’ll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la-la-la).
He’ll have to sit and watch them all,
And we’ll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind Joel can’t control
Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
Because he used those special parts
    To make his robot friends.

Robot Roll Call: (All right, let’s go!)
    Cambot! (Pan left!)
    Gypsy! (Hi, girl!)
Tom Servo! (What a cool guy!)
    Croooow! (He’s a wisecracker.)

If you’re wondering how he eats and breathes
and other science facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, “It’s just a show,
    I should really just relax
    For Mystery Science Theater 3000!”

My favorite Joel episode was Viking Women vs The Sea Serpent. Throughout the whole show, he was obsessed with waffles. He even programmed the robots to love waffles too. Also, he pointed out there there is some sort of mysterious connection between scandinavian women and waffles. I agree with him.

man, she is looking pretty hip for ’50’s photos! Is “viking….” out on Video as the MST3K version? And if it is, is it called one of the shorter or alternate titles of the movie?

    Who IS that ?
It looks like a metal duck, a gumball machine on wheels and Rimmers younger brother after having a joint.

Okay, the duck is Crow, he’s made from a lacrosse mask,a bowling pin ,and a butter dish (or soap dish) and the gumball machine looking one is Tom Servo ,he’s made from a…well a gumball machine and they are all stuck on a space station and go about watching BAD movies and making smart ass jokes throughout. It’s a great show first on Comedy Central, then Sci/fi .

p.s. who thinks Trace Beaulieu was the better Crow?

Thank you for the explanation. I swear the guy is either stoned or receiving special attention from under the table in that still though. Ah well, I’ll be 50 before we get it in Oz..

Oh, I’d say anyone with a pulse. Bill Corbett was great as Brain Guy, but he just seemed a pale imitation of Trace when he picked up the puppet. His humor wasn’t as caustic, and his delivery wasn’t as biting. It’s not quite the same p*ssing contest that the “Joel vs. Mike,” “Erhardt vs. TV’s Frank” or “Old Servo vs. New Servo” battles are, because in each of those cases, the characters were completely different. Bill’s Crow is so obviously a variation of Trace’s approach that comparisons are inevitable, and I can’t see anyone (except for the post-Trace Brains) thinking otherwise.
