ParticipantLexx is getting a raw deal from SciFi and the general media. Per request I am posting various letters and emails that I have sent out to Praise or Promote Lexx. While I am not god’s gift to writing, I hope these will give you a starting point and make it easier for you to write your own Lexx Letters. If anyone has any letters they would like to share as samples, just email them to me, and I’ll post them. I am sure if we keep after them, we can break through the publicity blackout that is holding Lexx back. The samples are at http://members.home.net/thefrey/ I have also included BlackClouds link, for other places that we can drum up publicity for the new season. Remember it is never to early to enlarge the Lexx fan base for season 5!

GuestApparently the US Sci-Fi channel just showed a season 4 promo for “Little Blue Planet” during their Twilight Zone marathon, so something’s going on.

GuestThanks, thefrey, for posting the letters and link to the addresses. I’ve sent emails to TV Guide and SciFi, but doubt they’ve had any impact. I will start writing letters. I’ll also copy your idea of writing to my local papers’ entertainment editors. I just discovered Lexx in December 2000 – it’s just *got to* continue! There’s nothing else I want to watch any more.

They have?? Kewl! Either that’s what they were planning to do all along, or yonder gerbils have been reading the boards and checking their e-mail.
FWIW, I just sent my opinion via snail mail to Bonnie Hammer. It shouldn’t take long to reach her, as I’m in Pittsburgh and she’s in NYC. For the record I was very polite, but I’m not used to writing letters of this kind so it might have been a bit long winded. I basically said that the majority of LEXX fans are adults, that a large portion of those adults are women and for these reasons, aiming the show at adolescent boys may not be the smartest thing to do.

GuestI personally, a couple of weeks ago, dashed off a rather irate e-mail to Entertainment Weekly. They always have a special issue beginning of summer with recommendations on what odd things to watch on TV during re-run season. They did not mention “Lexx”. They have never, as far as I know, mentioned “Lexx” at any time, ever.

GuestLast summer TV Guide had articles on a bunch of sci-fi women…all the girls form Farscape were in there as well as Xev and there was a nice big picture of Xev on the cover…unfortunately that’s the only Lexx publicity I’ve ever seen. Sci-fi in general needs more exposure in the media…lots of good stuff gets ignored simply because people don’t know it’s going on…

when this topic came up earlier in the year (exposure in the media) the point was made that both salter and the actors’ agents provide the media with promotional packets, it is then up to the media to use these packets…obviously, in xenia’s case there is a combination of aggressive marketing, as well as an appealing product to market to all the young boys who play tomb raider and so forth…however, scifi must take some of the blame as they are not really going to the lengths to promote the return of lexx as they did even when lexx first started in the states a year and a half ago…even if salter hasn’t given them the materials, they should be rerunning making of lexx, including the one we in the us haven’t seen, and more clips of the lexx in their ‘summer of scifi’ footage…and this is where we can make the difference, by haranguing scifi, and entertainment weekly, and tvguide, and all the little scifi rags we look at…and ladies, as thefrey said, the media needs to be reminded that women watch scifi too, and we do most of the shopping, so show us ben browder, mm, and freaking yoda if you have to , but not just pinup girls!

GuestAt the risk of making myself sick, because this is Xactly why I escaped to the Sad board..
The US marketers do not see the potential of Kai’s character.. I mean LEXX has Xev for the guys.. and they have Kai for the gals.. (no offense to anyone of homoseXuel orientation).. And FX is right, there’s a whole untapped market there. Personally I blame the Lifetime channel for patronizing women and making crap. Unfortunately Amercian marketers are just stupid.
Ya know I was gonna go on a tangent.. but I just realized that I don’t even know what the hell is running through their clueless marketing minds.
But my point is.. they don’t see the potential Kai has to reach an even larger audience by using him to target in on women or gay men who like guys with hair buns.
Btw.. if there are any marketers out there who feel offended by what I’ve just typed.. go apply at SciFi. The competition can’t be too great for a novel thinker.
And if there are any SciFi marketers out there reading these posts.. well we’ve just clued you in. So you now you have no Xcuses

Actually, the link is an old one from when Terri Malinski put up the Dragonfliers site and began rallying American fans to begin letter/email campaign, along with our overseas counterparts, to keep Lexx alive and healthy for another season. She and others worked hard on the site and on the campaign, as did the fans, and as you can see, we’ve got another season. Never underestimate the power of the pen (or profit ) The site is inactive but you can still check out the pages at the addy.

Yes, Sci-Fi has shown a promo, HOWEVER…
for every Lexx promo there are literally about 10 commercials for their other shows like Farscape and The Invisible Man. The Lexx promo barely gets any air time at all, and usually in the wee morning hours when not many are watching.
I taped 6 hours of the Sci-Fi channel from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. and there were only two showings of the Lexx promo.

yup, and i just got a “special addendum” to the scifi com newsletter where the mention of lexx season premiere is sandwiched between “new friday line up ” of farscape, im and lexx, and a special showing of farscape on saturday to lead into new series chronicle…one day to go for lexx and that is all the mention it gets in the sciificom newsletter! bah, humbug

Kai was the reason I started watching Lexx…I saw him on a commercial and after that I just had to figure out who the sexy lookin guy with the funny hair was…lots of shows have cute guys, but Kai is _intruigingly_ cute…you’ve never seen anything like him, so you stare at him. And if that’s not marketing potential I don’t know what is.
